Straight fans like me aren't usually targeted by homophobic 'banter'. It's really not hard to work out why we need groups like this. Nor are 'builders' and 'bankers'. Think some are missing the point why the guys are starting this. It's really not hard to understand it if you think for a split second. Good luck to them. That’s the second time in this thread you’ve felt the need to say you’re straight - get out the closet! Seriously though good luck guys and girls and ignore dinosaurs like Downie.

Another one for the SP. Good luck! Yeah, I wish I could attend on Tuesday - though in fairness I think that's too soon, I'd have nothing to present as such at this early stage, other than standing up and echoing what's been said on here already! Next time though

Downie could've of course let others exercise their right to free speech. The type he so loves.
But of course if its with a topic he doesn't agree with he's straight on here to shut them down.

He won't be shutting us down. Even if this didn't go ahead (for whatever reason), we're still there in the crowd supporting our club. Been a Town fan since 2005 and I'm not going anywhere

If this encourages young kids (and adults too) towards supporting the team or getting involved in sport then it should be applauded.
There are kids and adults out there who are LGBTQ who feel excluded from sport and especially football and that 100% should not be the case.
If our sons or daughters, grandsons/daughters came to us and said they were LGBQ and they were thinking of quitting football/sport because of it then what a terrible shame that would be.
That can't be right.
Anything that stops people feeling excluded I'm all for.

To be fair, we dont need lGBT groups, black white pink or green, get over yourselves with the need to publicise what you do in your private time, we need 2 groups, Group 1..... STFC fans, Group 2 ..... NON STFC fans, but dont expect to find manyt of group 2 on here!! 'Get over yourselves' says poster who treats us to his 'self made man' life story (the self-sacrifice! the risk! the sucess!) on a tediously regular basis 😂😂😂

If you suffer discrimination then there are laws to protect you. If you want to get in touch with like minded people you are free to set up a social group on many media platforms, but I don't see why you need a seperate supporters group. All supporters are also welcome at the Supporters Parliament meetings where all supporters can raise issues.

I understand this is an emotive issue for you but my opinion is we are all stfc fans and should be able to swap opinions on this stfc supporters board. Everyone has a right to be who they want to be. Discrimination should be stamped out in the whole sport/football/ everywhere else environments and issues can be raised at the SP regarding issues raised by the fans.

I understand that and don't disagree but we don't live in an ideal world and discrimination isn't stamped out is it? There may perhaps be reasons that things have not been reported to the SP in the past, and not everything is something that can be taken to or sorted by the SP - I mean, there is essentially no issue to fix between the club and LGBT supporters, but there is a healthy relationship to build which can potentially lead to more support, more exposure and increased income for the club in the future (we'd hope).

Perfectly put CP I felt excluded from this idea simply by the thread title, which is why I questioned it IMO it was primarily aimed at LGBTQ and the more of you that have the pretty town badge the more it will stay that way ps sorry for having an opinion and all that ;-)

I agree not everything can be dealt with by the SP but it is a starting point to raise issues of concern and BC attends these so questions could be put to him direct. I don't know if the club has a diversity officer, but he/ she could be a good place to start within the club to see how stfc can advertise that all diverse groups including sexual orientation are welcome and discrimination not tolerated. I personally think by raising it in an all welcome meeting like the SP would have more clout than a seperate group, but that is just my opinion and I accept for some that could be very daunting and it could be said there is a bigger punch to be made by a seperate group, but uncomfortable feelings should fall on the shoulders of those against diverse groups.

I don't see this as any more left field as the South Shropshire shrews.
It doesn't mean they are excluding north Shropshire shrews, but they're gathering people with a genuine connection.
*this post does not deliberately exclude people in west Shropshire

Right, I'll probably get me yed chewed off here. I am perfectly happy to mix with any Juan, regardless of their sexual orientation. Quite frankly, I couldn't give a ****ey's muck, it's their business. I've never understood why people have to be "outed". I knew Mr Brightside was gay, he's told us before. Every time he posts, I don't think, "ahh, here's a gay person posting". It was a fellow Town fan. Why can't we all just mix in together?
I used to go for a drink with gay blokes, not because they were gay, because we all got along as mates. I have worked for gay people. So what? I still go to a pub run by gay men.
I just think you might be isolating yourselves for no reason.... just saying....

All fair enough JT but it can surely be argued there is a reason? How many openly gay players do we know play professionally? It's the 21st Century, whatever work is being done by fans or clubs to tackle the issues that LGBTQ people face just isn't working that well and it's about time it changed. I applaud any initiative to tackle this, if it gives just one LGBTQ person the confidence to go out and play football or become a supporter that feels comfortable attending a game (instead of say, sat at home, wanting to be there but not feeling welcome) then it must be worth a go.

Well it’s great if we’re hopefully not part of a problem. But, unless you’re claiming there’s been no such thing as prejudice and discrimination against LGBTQ people, others aren’t so enlightened. What I can’t understand is why someone would raise any objection to a group of like minded people bearing no ill will towards anyone simply wanting to do something positive like this. Baffling. Just do it and good luck with the initiative.

Best of luck with this initiative. As already mentioned, a few of the responses on here demonstrate why it is necessary. Perhaps the Supporters' Parliament could help with a banner to raise awareness of the group and the club could allow a piece in the programme / website?

Dunno. It doesn't matter. It's irrelevant. I'm not interested, they're just footballers. Do you check? How many black players do we have in our team? Dunno. It's none of my business. If Mr Brightside moved in next door to me, and said "fancy a drink Juan night", I'm sure I'd be pleased to go with him.
