I would have much preferred breaking our transfer record on Shankland than Norburn (average). Been banging on about him since pre season & the woeful argument was that he's only scoring in Scotland blah blah blah. We bought Angol instead. Nuff said.. John mcginlay had only scored in Scotland and look how successful he was.

Yes you could argue he is (although he has played in league football before), I'm using Martin's terminology and really highlighting the contradiction of people wanting a proven goalscorer at this level, yet listing people who have never played at this level. What people actually mean is they want us to spend money on a striker. And the definition of a punt to me is different dependent on the club. For example Swansea & Sunderland are clubs linked with Shankland, £250k is small fry for them and worth a punt, gamble or whatever you want to call it. For us it would have been a record signing and had it not worked out then people would have been criticising Roland, Brian etc, I doubt many people would have said "oh well, it was worth a gamble". We wasted £100k on John Dungworth, but fans at the time seemed to accept he was worth the gamble, even though he subsequently turned out to be a dud. Trevor Birch, Nathan Elder and Tyrone Barnett are 3 others who come to mind. Dungworth still managed 17 goals in 86 appearances, by this Seasons standards prolific and he was playing at a higher level.

Our last accounts in March 2018 showed we had a cash reserve of £1million in the bank. Now I don't know what the position is now but all of a sudden £250k doesn't quite look like peanuts. Not sure if you've been asleep but we've received compensation for Hurst/Doig, £2m for the Ipswich boys, £1m+ for Woods, £300k for Payne, the Lidl money ... £250k is peanuts for the town. And of course NO money has been spent in that time ?

Don’t we have a striker At the club that’s proven at this level ? The money is avalible . 6 months into the season . Still no decent forward . Or winger . or keeper
