I have been listening and reading recently, with both amusement and disbelieve, club statements regarding their commitment to forming relationships and involvement with their fans, supporters and the community in general. I have to say at this point, through my own personal experience, this is simply not true. In my honest opinion the statements are a lot of talk but very little action.
Since retiring and having a little time to spare to do voluntary work, I have put forward four, what I thought were enjoyable and exciting activity proposals forward, where supporters and the community in general could become more involved with the club and with no expense involved to the club at all. At best the reaction and action taken was "to have a dabble a little bit" without a firm commitment and at worse to show utter contempt for the initiative.
If any of these proposals had been planned, organised and executed well they would have been successful, as they have proven to be at other clubs. I have just got the impression that there is no commitment or desire, in fact I feel that the "right hand simply does not know what the left hand is doing". To say that I have lost confidence would be an understatement.
I cannot believe that the Chairman, who I respect a lot because he does so much for the club and is obviously a fan himself, can honestly know half of what goes on (or more to the point does not go on). I have tried on numerous occasions to speak to him but I now firmly believe he is just a cardboard cut out.
I have supported the team since about 1958 and I will still keep supporting it but there are two things I wont doing in future. One is not to put anymore proposals forward again to be dismissed out of hand and the other is to believe everything I either hear or listen to.
I doubt whether you will print this really - but who knows.

Did you speak to the Supporters Parliament about your ideas or float them with the fanbase in general to see if it would be a goer?
In all honestly the only change and improvements in recent years we have seen for the fans have been a direct result of the work the fans working on the SP (or turning up at meetings) and the way in which the club work with that forum. Normally these ideas and proposals come forward following understanding if the wider fanbase is behind the plan in general.
What were the ideas out of interest?

There is two sides to everything, so without the full picture it would be difficult to comment ( which is presumably what you are wanting by posting on here).

what were the ideas out of interest? From looking at his previous posts: - A walking football World Cup to be held at the Power League every other Tuesday, with ticket office staff to officiate - “A thousand and one” match day entertainment ideas - Free goody bag to all match day attendees who have not yet had their Bah Mitzvah or Bat Mitzvah - Wide ranging reforms in the area of law and order, giving Swan Constabulary “stop and search” powers on match days.

As others have said, it's hard to know what to say in response to the OP without knowing a bit more detail.
Hopefully the OP will respond in more detail.

People write genuine posts, genuinely good ideas , or football related posts and get reply’s like this . What’s the point ?

have to say I disagree from experience
if anyone has seen Jamie Edwards presentation on what 'in the community' do you will be blown away by the work he and his team undertake, if you don't know what they are about have a look at their website and social media, it will totally change your mind regarding how the club deals with the community and the opportunities they offer so many.
Regarding the club, as many know I sit on the SP which has achieved some amazing stuff in the last few years. Safe standing, memorial garden being two huge projects but then there is the day to day stuff that quite a few of us are involved in, which means constant contact with the club, at times its like a second job!! there are times we agree, there are times we throw our toys out of the pram because we don't, but the fact we are even having these discussions is surely good for our fan base.
Any ideas you have please pm me and I will let you know who to contact and if needed can take them forward through the SP
cheers
Mike

Interesting how split our fan base is when it comes to the club still
We have major issues like ticketing but seem to be getting nowhere. I’d argue some of the fans Parliament guys are in the clubs pockets and are scared of asking the difficult questions. At times you just feel the club tells us what they want us to hear!

In the clubs pocket??? Are you kidding...
As Mike pointed out, there are numerous things the SP has done for the fans, in fact almost all the schemes that have come forward have been for the fans. Its not been a place to raise funds for the club to buy new stuff.. the SP is there to champion the fans. Its the only forum we have and in the main it works.
But can it solve everything, hell no. The ticket system is ****ed and the contract with Ticketmaster is there long term. Has that stopped the SP raising it time after time after time... nope.. its regularly on the agenda the the club get pushed. Same with the crap buffets and numerous other issues. BUT the club cant or wont move on everything. Look at loo seats, its taken too long to make any progress and the progress was piecemeal. Some
Why they or wont spend money on things that improve the match day for some is up to them, but they are aware though the SP of how big an issue it is.
That however should NOT detract the things that have improved, and the club (Brian et al) should be commended.
I'm firmly of the belief that without the SP NO improvements would ever have happened, no fanzone, no logggerhead, no safe standing, no memorial garden, no attractive ticket prices for youth teams, no real ale in the bars, no painted concourses, no paint the town blue and amber for the final last year....none of it.
My experience is that (particularly with Brian) that the SP is a good vehicle to bring an idea to and see if it will work with the CLUB and the FANS.
The view above is so far from the truth, Im part of the SP and spend my ENTIRE day asking tough questions, and calling out the clubs bull s**t when it happens... and that prompts changes when the uproar is loud enough. I wish more people were involved in the SP (its growing) - I dont think many fans really understand the way in which is can effect things for fans for the better.
Im sure Mike could elaborate further as to how the SP are as far removed from the clubs pocket as they could be... almost all the schemes that the SP have pushed have cost the clubs money for the betterment of fans... and if there is ONE thing this club does not like doing its spending money!

Personally I have been greatly encouraged since the appointment of Brian Caldwell that any ideas or concerns in respect of the football club will be addressed if put to him in the right manner. He should always be the first point of contact not the Chairman. I am a big admirer of RW and what he has done for the club but he has employed a CEO for a reason and I would be most surprised if he just ignored good ideas put to him which would benefit the football club. Being bombarded however with rubbish is another matter.

Exactly maybe this is the problem. A lack of clarity on what his proposals are.

Okay so you would like to know what the proposals were and the replies we received to them. As they were detailed written proposals that took weeks to research, organise, trial and present and nobody appears to have any knowledge of them at all is confusing to say the least.
Proposal one was to form a Walking and general exercise sessions for people aged over 50. I will not go into all of the benefits etc. other than to say that this group was formed elsewhere after the rejection. The reason given for the rejection was that such a group had been tried before and failed and why start a walking group because there are so many other great places to walk and take exercise elsewhere!
Proposal Two was to form and organise an active Junior group for the clubs supporters and fans to take part in pre-match and evening activities and hopefully, when available, reciprocal games etc against opposition supporters. This was rejected because I was informed that there was a very active Junior group at that time. At this point I was also told to stop wasting the Community departments time because they are very busy.
Proposal Three was to hold a S.T.F.C. supporters "Mastermind Champion" Quiz on Shrewsbury Town F.C. over the years. It took a lot of time researching this, finding a person knowledgeable to set the questions and deliver them and observing how to deliver a successful quiz. I was told "yes we have considered this and will look into it"! I guess they are still looking!
And finally Proposal Four was to form a daytime Walking Football Group based at the Power League. I cant point to any particular reason why this went all pear shaped because everything was a total mess with not one person taking responsibility. In spite of a fully detailed programme that was never followed nobody seemed to know what was going on at any one given time. I was constantly talking to different people who all had their own different agenda. If Shrewsbury Town F.C. were a Sunday League club fair enough I could understand this but it is a professional football club for Gods sake.
I am sorry to have taken your time up moaning on but maybe you can just understand my frustration a bit more now. Whether you agree with me or not does not matter really because these are the facts that can not be argued against.

"Facts" Cheers Rafa The community team run a walking football group - THEY LITERALLY RUN A DAY TIME ONE 11-12 on a FRIDAY AT POWER LEAGUE www.shrewsburytowninthecommunity.com/activities/walking-football/The community team run a junior club www.shrewsburytowninthecommunity.com/junior-shrews/Good ideas as well, but already sorted. If you took all this time researching this, did you not start by seeing if this was already done? Litterally took a 15 second google search. The quiz is a great idea, one that the Salopcast is hoping to take forward in 2019... mentioned it a few times on here and twitter. As for the last one, a walking group... again if they tried it and it failed why would it work this time? I like your passion, its great to have fans trying to do stuff like this, its what all cubs need, but I would urge you again to speak with the Supporters Parliament... this is a great way to get ideas taken forward with the backing of other fans.... The club wont respond to every little issue I guess thats fair, and they are under no obligation to do so, but though the SP ideas and proposal can have some weigh behind them and you might find it a better avenue...

I believe all the ideas bar the quiz are already being done in some form or another by the club, but I may be wrong.
The quiz is a good idea but not one the club will spend time on as it’s really a Supporters event so I’d suggest speaking to either the OSC, Superblues or SP. I’m happy to take it to the SP if you want but would need someone who has the time to plan and arrange if it’s was seen as something which would be popular

Salopcast are running a quiz early this year - Fans vs Shropshire star staff... will be recorded and played out. If we get something going like this would love to be involved to record and play out as part of a Salopcast special...We need to have a chat about this.

Seems to me that in the end, the opening post was no more than a storm in a teacup.
In fact the walking football seems to be going from strength to strength.
