England's next game against Wales on Thursday is in Lens, the 240th biggest town in France.
England's supporters have therefore been advised to stay at a nearby larger conurbation instead. Lille.
And guess who is playing Slovakia in Lille on Wednesday, the day before the Wales game! That's right..Russia!
Tin hats on methinks.

You've really gotta say the organisers have got to take some of the blame with their planning, such as this decision. Also surely England Russia was a high risk fixture, yet it was held in a high risk city which has its own problems with ultras, which is another risk, as many reports have said the local hooligans have been targeting England fans too

I don't recall reading one single article about potential hooliganism before the tournament. Everything was ISIS that, and terrorism this.

Nick posted a link in this thread where warning were put in place back in December, you had:
A very well organised and well trained set of Russian's, eager to expand their reputation (and what better than against one of the most infamous set of fans) Large numbers of England fans, many of them choosing Marseille over Magaluf for their summer drinking session A group of locals who have their own reputation and remembering England's previous visit in 1998
Will be interesting to see how the tournament pans out, I suspect this isn't the last of the trouble

Yes, well I mentioned the Latvians, in broader terms, there are Russian descendants all over the place now, just strikes me that they are in large numbers, judging by the media footage, quite young looking (working age)and not many of their females or kids around. Aye, military age, but there well maybe Russians in diaspora involved.

So what's it all about ?, Is it the Russians trying to firmly establish a reputation, do they have grudge against us, or everyone in the west or what ?, are they going to attack Wales ?, and thinking at that, what are the Cardiff and Swansea crews doing, are they with England, or being good boys for Wales, what would the Turks or Italians do ?, its early days in this competition, I just wonder, plus, will this spark copycat hooliganism elsewhere, with firms "training" in the woods as the Russians have been reported doing, with MMA gear and gums shields, I never saw this coming for sure.

Of course all this not helped by some anti-Europe feelings harbored by those travelling from these shores.
The '150 Russians to blame' headlines are nectar to those who want to brush aside the chaos of those terrible few days before the match in the Port city.
Not sure what we can do about the Russians or anyone else for that matter. We need to focus on the problems that we export. I'm hoping that the much feared Cardiff/Swansea vs Millwall/Chelsea head to head is helped by the early KO and the impact of the previous violence sparks a better security strategy than what we've seem previously.
Only four days in and such a long way to go....

Russia are expecting a fine from Uefa, so latest reports are suggesting. As if that is the solution. So a fine it is, and a suspended disqualification if it happens again, but only inside the stadium... www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/36528403

I think its very much a case of reputation and what you tend to see in these competitions is things coming to head fairly quickly before the powers that be actually wake up to things and get a handle on the issue. England. In Marseilles. First weekend of the tournament. It was a god send to them. You would now hope that that will be the worse of it as hopefully the police will crack down on things and get a fair few of them out of the country. I mean, I doubt it will be as easy now to move from one section of a stadium into another after what we saw in Marseilles. They will probably act on that and make additional arrangement to segregate the fans. But first time around you know it will be lax and you can take advantage. But even so, job done for them. They got what they came for. On the footage from Stan Collimore the Channel Four chap mentioned that as well as there being Russian hooligans there, there were also hooligans from a number of French clubs present. So all very much prearranged. All looking to take advantage of things before the police etc. react and get their act together a tad better. That's how I see it anyhows.

I'm going for the day with MartinB to see the Russia v Slovakia match! It seemed a good idea when he suggested it a few months ago
