Why would anyone ever feel the need to wright this letter to the star - get a life mate Fuss about football not healthy With regards to your article about Ricky Allman (Star May 5, 2004) I am in no way a football fan, in fact, I cannot see what all the fuss is about, and find this rather unhealthy aspect of the game (and that's all it is just a game) rather worrying.! It is indicative of the general, sad outlook of quite a lot of the so-called football "fans". Whatever happened to the adage "the taking part is all important - not the winning?" Their whole life goes into some sort of "tailspin" when their team loses a match. This talk about "heroes", and the worshipping of players, of any sport, is pure fantasy. Real heroes are those who gave, and endured, much so that we could enjoy our chosen recreations and freely express our beliefs. It is for that reason that we must continue to oppose those who would impose their own views on us, and deny those rights, so bravely earned. So please, whilst I do acknowledge the right of those to enjoy the pursuit of football, let's get things into perspective again, and when we do this it will perhaps reflect on the young of this world, who will be the leaders of tomorrow. In conclusion, it's a shame that Leeds United lost this opportunity, but it's most definitely not a tragedy of national or international importance. Allen Warrender, Holland-on-Sea, Essex

just makes me laugh that there are people this dull out there. This is a man with so little to do that he sat down in his home IN FECKING ESSEX, and decided to give the people of shropshire a pointless lecture. He claims not to be a football fan, yet this man must have scoured the league tables to find out what was going on, then gaged the mood of the supporters, before finding out how to contact the local paper in the area. What are the chances on the local paper in Aldershot getting a similar letter?
