Nice to round off the day with a few genuine positives:
Weso and NKP back Goals for both strikers Strong performance from Patterson Clean sheet
There might be life after Woods and Goldson after all.

My observations from the game were - Barnett was sharp and played really well, deserves to start on Saturday alongside mcalinden. Knight Percival looked as though he has never been injured , we actually can defend , and Whalley was decent when he came on . Good to see wesolowski back out there and hopefully we will start without Sadler again on Saturday .

Get Sadler out please. He's the weakest link!

Looks like we played a stronger line-up than I thought. Mal Starkey wasn't even on the bench.

Well done. It was a good game with lots of positives. They looked like they could become a unit again. So we move on to a more hopeful if different future.

good to see mellon pick the number 1 number 1 tonight
its could have been so easy to give one of the others a game tonight , but in the middle of the side getting torn apart its so vital for the keeper and defence and midfield to form a relationship/undrstanding
probably would have won with anyone in goal tonight but would have done nothing for team bonding on saturday with JL back in
good move mellon

Knight Percival slotted back in effortlessly, great to have him back.

Not a very physical game tonight, a few rough tackles here and there but not the same as a league game.
Town easily the better side though, we looked far more positive and creative in midfield with Ogogo doing a great job a bit deeper than he has been playing.
I'm in no doubt NKP should come in for Sadler after tonight's showing. He just does everything so well, economy of movement etc.. So glad he's back!!
Ellis did very well defensively but his distribution was dire! Gave the ball away so often I lost count (ESP 1st half!) ... They should get one of the other lads starting things off from the back.
We will have much tougher games, but we should remember we do still have some pretty good players in the squad... Maybe once things have settled down for a while we will see that.

Decent game which will have given MM some food for thought as regards selection. Weso is not the same type of player as Woods but they share the same energy and zest for football so it was good to see him back and also leading the side. Clark undercooked quite a few of his passes in the first half but was very much involved all game and gave us something different in the number 10 position. Grandison might just surprise people who don't think he's capable of being the leader in our defence... Looks far more domineering since Goldson left.

Oxford fan in peace, was disappointed Woods got sold for you today, best player to play against us over last few years by a country mile!!! How's Barnett and Brown doing for you? Thought Brown was awful for us but that could have just been he didn't fit in, what about Barnett? He came to us pretty unfit but as games went on he played much better and we were disappointed to see him go....although in Roofe we've got some player who we probably wouldn't have signed if Barnett stayed with us, good luck for the rest of the season....hopefully see you next season (in league 1)

Was glad to see Clark given the full game. He started off slowly but gained in confidence and with game time he could develop into a dangerous player. He's still young and hasn't played much so could frustrate some at times but hopefully this is the chance he has needed to play more games.
Grandison looked good tonight and NKP next to him will only help the unit.
Now the window is shut the formation can settle down and other players can step up. Although the timing of the transfers wasn't great they were inevitable but hopefully we will be able to look back on the window as a positive for the club.

We have been playing Brown on the wing and he has been pretty average, hard to make a judgement after a few games. Barnett struggled when he first came but looks a lot better after a decent pre-season, looks a lot sharper than January. Good luck this season anyway!

I was encouraged by how we pressed and harried Oldham. This lead to both goals, both well taken.
Barnett started slowly, but got in the game and had a good second half in particular. It's does seem true what was mentioned up thread though, he has little periods where he seems totally uninterested and then suddenly remembers what he's supposed to be doing and causes all sorts of problems.
NKP and Weso looked comfortable, but it will be a few games before they get up to speed and we still need to be patient.
Patterson didn't look out of place and put in a couple of decent crosses, but lacks the pace and skill to play that role.
We're slowly starting to improve and I'm confident that this team can comfortably survive in this league.

It seems to me that fans are loathe to say anything positive about Brown and Barnett, but for me, both contributed a lot last night. Brown played ok both on Saturday and at Palace. It was noticeable that when both goals were scored, all ten outfield players celebrated together, which would indicate that there is not a lot wrong with team spirit and togetherness within the squad.

I am convinced that Grandison will step up to be a leader with NKP beside him. Until injured, NKP did a lot to make Goldson the player he eventually became (in my opinion).

Thought it was ok, but Oldham were so bad there own fans booed them off, so a little of my excitement in the win was tempered by that. My boss is an Oldham fan and was there and decried it as one of the worst he has seen. Also suicideal defending at times!
Positives, NKP was very good after such a lay off and outshone Wes in the return of the Crocks. Never put a foot wrong, and if fitness is sorted should start Saturday. The two CB were relatively untroubled and very solid, and Patterson looks a worthy back up to Tootle.
First half Barnett was pretty poor I though. His passing was almost comical giving it away pretty much every time he had it. But he grew into the game and looked a player again second half, and was even manically chasing back to win the ball and coming back for all the corners. He worked pretty hard.
Midfield, Clarke flitted in and out but got a good assist, Wes was just Wes, still getting at players combatively. Junior Brown though! Im not convinced. He had a lot of the ball but failed to pick anyone out from a cross or just ran down a dead end and lost it. He also hoofed it clear down the line a few times rather than play it. Some flashes (such as his his shot) but we will need more in League 1.
As soon as Lawrence came on it was game over, the mas oozed class in the last 15 and dominated the ball as we played large sections of passing football Oldham could not get near. A great assist when we want to close a game off. Whalley was also lively, but again after initial exciting busts of pace he more often than not lost control or ran into a defender. More to come from him I think.
All in all, happy to win, but will need a win one of the next two away games to right the ship a little.

I almost feel me and you are the same person sometimes as we seem to agree on most things including this. I think Grandison by the end of the season may well be captaining the side. Barnett is the new Mark Wright. A cracking player who people slate but will always score even when playing poorly.

I've only seen Brown play once for us - on Saturday - apart from a 15 minute pre-season cameo, and it seemed he didn't really know what he was supposed to be doing - don't think it was his fault. Didn't play as either a wingback or winger really, but still almost scored two worldies. I think his biggest problem is looking like Marcelo and having a first name that is more prevalent in Brazil; therefore people expect him to be more of a flashy, pacey winger when he seems a totally different type of player.

I like Brown. He did well in last nights game, there was a guy by me doing his nut when he wasn't making much effort to get down the wing second half.... But then we were 2 nil up at that point and I'm sure he'd been told to stay tight.
I think a lot of what has been said about him has been overly harsh, possibly because he stands out due to his hair.

And we'll done to Mickey D , MoM for Cambridge tonight In a 2-0 home defeat to Dagenham and Redbridge. that means that deal must have been done on Monday, or they have played an ineligible player....though they had to be signed a min of 24 hours before being able to play
