The campaign to restore the Loggerheads proves how fan power can work, it would be great if somehow we could faciltate a reconciliation between Colin Griffin and the club, although for Colin who was cast aside so early in his coaching career the wounds may be too deep.

A good story about Colin Griffin which is allegedly true. (I say allegedly, because I don't want any Juan to Sioux me). Town were playing Chelsea. Quite common in those glory days. Chelsea's David Speedie was giving Colin a bit of stick, so Colin just decked him. Speedie was so "popular" in the Chelsea changing room, that no Chelsea players saw anything.

As has been mentioned by others, I feel that it's an absolute disgrace that Colin Griffin was treated the way he was.
It's so sad, albeit understandable, that he feels the way he does towards the Club. But what happened to him and his subsequent failure to be awarded a testimonial was nothing to do with the fans.
Let's now press that he gets that long awaited testimonial. All the Club officers that were in post since he was unceremoniously relieved of his duties have departed. Let's show him that the fans have never forgotten him by mounting a similar campaign for him to be granted that testimonial as was made for the reinstatement of the loggerheads.
Perhaps then he may be reconciled with the Club by realising that the fans have never forgotten him and want the Club to finally recognise his contribution by granting him that testimonial. I personally am very sad that he feels the way he does, as he was one of the finest servants this Club has ever had.

When I was sponsoring a match about 4 or 5 years ago, I got someone who knew Colin's lovely wife, June, to ask if he'd attend as my guest. Nothing to do with the club, just a personal request. Just for a moment, I thought I was on a winner, but in the end, he refused.
I was a big fan of Colin. For those who never saw him play, trust me, he was class. If he was playing now, we couldn't afford his salary.

I'm sure a testimonial for him would be well attended. As JT says Colin was absolute class and not to be messed with! Other than the own goal at Leicester!! I can't recall many other mistakes.

Would definitely support Chopper being next up.
But when Sir Mickey does go up I think the strapline underneath his name should read -
"Mickey Brown, he sent Chester down"
In fact if the club agreed to that I would fund the whole banner myself.

Would 100% support a campaign to get Colin a well overdue Testimonial. Would be interesting to know via your friend if the gap could be breached. No point in a campaign if Chopper wouldn't agree to the game. Three Chopper stories that always spring to mind. 1) His face and reaction to the Town fans at Crystal Palace when we had to wear Wolves away kit 2) His attempt to clear the East Stand at Chelsea. One of the few stands he failed to clear 3) Three of us sitting in a bar in Stirling during a preseason tour of Scotland when the team walked in. Chopper spotted us and said to David Geddis who had just signed for us "Those lads are from Shrewsbury". Geddis wouldn't believe him as he was such a wind up merchant so we were invited to join the players to prove Chopper right.

Agreed about Colin Griffin.
Didn't Mal Starkey get a game vs Villa?

Mr Starkey played 121 games for Shrewsbury, then made his living as club Secretary, and got a testimonial. Colin Griffin played over 500 games including cup matches for Shrewsbury, then on a coaching role. He was allegedly sacked for daring to try and bring some of the scallywag players we had at the time into line.

It was a b&a member who knew Colin who either doesn't post now, or has changed usernames. I am led to understand, that when Town are on tele, Griff goes to the pub to watch the game, so he is still interested. He also did an interview for Meadow Memories, if I remember correctly. If any Juan knows Colin, it would be interesting to know his views on a testimonial. There seems to be a consensus on here that it's long overdue.

Your right JT it's way overdue, we should press ahead with it. I don't think he'd let the town fans down.

Palace played in red and blue stripes. Home kit was blue, away kit red. Long before the days of third kits

As someone who put up the original suggestion that Colin should be awarded his long overdue testimonial, perhaps I could request the creation of some thread on here by the Moderators where those that are interested in trying to set this up could exchange views?

I was thinking of that. In fact, I was going to do it! But first, we must be sure Griff is onside with this.
I was going to start a thread, "Should Colin Griffin be granted a testimonial, Yea or Nay".
**** it, I'll do it anyway.
