Mo strikes! Desperately needed that, say what you like about Moeen but he's got a habit of taking important wickets. .. And Broad gets Guptil before I can hit post, as Boycott always says, add two wickets to the score and it's a different game.. Beat me to it......One brings two!

England bowling attack looking very powder puff at the moment. Two quick wickets drag us back into it. Ali gets Latham and Broad gets Guptill NZ have since fought back, century stand between Williamson and Taylor. Ben Stokes looks like an average county bowler at the moment.

Listening to BBC test match special, Henry Blofeld not impressed with the one dimensional bowling of England at the moment. Does make you wonder if this attack is good enough to bowl New Zealand out once let alone twice.

Well no doubt that is New Zealand's day. England look desperately one dimensional if the ball doesn't move through the air.

Wood offers more pace and has perhaps been the pick of our seamers from what I saw, but we have been painfully shown up as not having enough about the attack when Anderson doesn't perform. Supposed to be cloudy and humid tomorrow, so we can only hope for some Jimmy magic and swing to keep us within touching distance. Ali a wicket at a key time and so it's hard to be too critical, but I still think we can't have both him and Stokes in a 5-man attack.

I watched one ball today, Wood's no ball. Meh.
Can't really comment much but Stokes needs to step up a bit if he wants to be our 4th seamer, otherwise he's basically our Corey Anderson.

New ball is due after three overs this morning. This is going to be the pivotal point of this match IMO. 2/3 quick New Zealand wickets could put England back into the game.

Breakthrough! Great catch from Buttler. Also credit Broad - realise I forgot him yesterday when I said Wood has been our best bowler. Need to try and use this momentum and get another quick couple of wickets.

Very unfortunate not to have Williamson straight after. Definitely like the look of him, he could easily have picked up a 5fer - one lucky review, one stupid no ball and a couple of edges that haven't quite carried. Fine margins have been the difference so far - if the no-ball and Bell drop had gone slightly differently, as well as the two run-out chances we've had, then we could have had a first innings lead. None of the fielding chances were easy, but against sides of this calibre you don't win by only taking easy chances.

Another fantastic catch by Buttler down the legside off Wood for Wood's second wicket.

Agreed, twice he has dropped off a Stokes ball in this innings!
On another point Wood is bowling very well IMO.

Why have they kept "the beard" back? Not convinced that Stokes has bowled well and been unlucky. Too many cafeteria balls and scattergun bowling.

Granted, he's been unlucky and should have at least one, probably 2 wickets but he's sent down plenty of crap and his figures wouldn't be great even with three wickets.

I think Atherton gets it about right........Consistency is the key in the 4th seamer role.

Any how NZ all out for 523 - lead of 134 - 30 odd overs left today.

Stokes is always going to be that guy who goes for 4 an over as he's trying to take wickets with every ball. That's good but it means Ali must bowl more overs.
Very well done to Wood, bowled a lot better than his figures suggested, in fact most of them did. We got 50 too few and they've got 50 too many. 31 overs to survive tonight, would snap your hand off for 85-1.

Strong finish there. I think 325 is the minimum for us to have a genuine chance of winning. Would love to see a Cook and Bell 250 partnership mind you...

Root is just ridiculous. Can think of perhaps one match when he's come in and not actually needed to make a score for us since the start of the India series.

Hundred up for Cook - big time for him to stand up.

That cook bloke isn't that bad either. 2 hundreds and a 90 in his last 5-6 tests isn't it? Not bad for someone who should have been dropped eh? I still think we're going to need at least 325/350 to make a game of it. If we can scrape our way to 400 it'll be an incredible last day tomorrow.

Captains knock from Cook, Hopefully the engine room can fire like they did in the first innings and we will be safe at least! Rain is always welcome too!

A lead of 250 should be competitive, 300+ would make it a hell of a last day, hopefully the weather holds off. Great to see Cooky back on form, will be crucial to have some runs at the top of the order if we're going to compete with the Aussies, Bell's form is a bit of a worry though.
