Been out of the office today – so on the way back from Darby I called into have a look at The Britannia. Impressive as you drive up but in today’s weather (very wet and dull) it looked a dreary old place. The stadium is in a strange place – one access road it stupid and WILL cause problems. There is some parking near the ground in the little developments that are suggested by Whitters on Shrewsweb – but Im guessing that they will fill about 2 hours before kick off and will add to the problems of getting back onto the A50 to anyone with a Car parking pass.
After that I took the car around some more of the area and went up to where the Gardeners Retreat is. Plenty of room in Car park and tones of on road parking in the area – for me that’s gotta be the best place for leaving the car and getting out quick. The best thing is that to get there you leave a junction before the A50 turn and avoid the roadwork’s on the A500. And leaving will avoid all the congestion hopefully. Probably only a 10-15 min walk to the stadium but its not well signposted
The in tried the next junction up from the A50 turn off the A500. I came off here took a right and then a the second right. Follow the road around and you come to the Other side of the A50 across from the Stadium – there is a bridge over the A50 to the ground and its well signposted. There are a few pubs in this area and loads of on street parking again. Probably about a 5-10 minute walk and Easy to see where you have to go
Went down to the ground and poked me nose about a bit – saw a few of there youth players eating chips!!!! The Stanley Matthews Statue has Graffiti all over it – which is a shame!! There is also a big one of them Air ships over the ground – I think it said nation wide on it im presuming its so people can find the ground when walking to it so they don’t get lost as the fans don’t know the area.
Im convinced that should you [park out side of the stadium/development area you will have little trouble getting out of the area. If you are in there good luck!!!.
Drove back on the A53 vis Market Drayton – From Stoke FC to Shrewsbury ground it took 58 Minutes – but that road is also going to be hell come the day – with all the traffic and my transportation planning knowledge bet guess that going to take 1.45 mins – 2.30- where as M54 M6 probable only 1.30 max.
Also went and saw Pride Park while in Darby and then the Meadow to get a car flag 3 grounds in one day!!!
After looking at the stadium and where we are to sit it really brought it home what’s happening on Sunday and how totally amazing its going to be – if the weathers good – my god it will be amazing!!!
Im buzzing now – hope some of the above helps – I would go in coach if you can and if have car stay well away from the ground its self and walk it in to the area.
