Due to the injury of Lawrence on Saturday, Southern being unfit and Grant being out of form it seems to me like Wildig would provide the balance necessary to hold our midfield together. He is a player who can defend but is willing to get forward and make runs when useful (think back to our second goal against Watford in pre-season) unlike Woods. Last season he proved a valuable asset in league 1 before being injured so if he is given a run of games to recapture his best form and gain full match fitness he may prove to be the perfect partner for Woods in midfield. However I'm not sure which formation he would fit into best, in the 5-1-2-2 formation he would certainly be able to link up well with Clark and make runs whilst also coming back to help Woods. However in 4-4-2 with Clark on the left an Vincent on the right Wildig and Woods could also make a flood pairing in the middle with Wildig being able to venture forward and Woods to pull the strings from a little further back. Imo it would be worth recalling him from Kidderminster because currently our other two midfielders are not giving the us what we need, what are your thoughts?

Bring him back to provide an option for sure. Southern to start for me if LL is injured.

This would be the same Aaron Wildig that hasn't set the world on fire at Kidderminster in the league below, yeah?
Worth a place on the bench if LL is out, but still wouldn't make the team for me.

Did watch him play for Kiddy on BT Sport yesterday and he was pretty dreadful, although in fairness the Nuneaton pitch made ours look like a bowling green and it was blowing a gale
That said he did well for us in league one and probably would play better around better players like Collins and Mangan (when fit) who make good runs off the ball. So would rather see him play than take a punt on a loan player

The feeling over from interviews with Mellon is that he is very unimpressed by Wildig.
Can't see him getting in the team, although I think he would do more than a decent enough job.

Unfortunately, I'm afraid that ship has sailed. A great shame, really.

I believe woods and wildig would be to lightweight together. We would have to play southern with them to make sure we are not out muscled in the middle.

I expect to see Southern and Woods if Liam does not make this weekends game

would prefer Wildig to another loan; but cannot see it happening. It is clear that MM does not share the view that Wildig has what it takes to be in the first 11.

Things look very dodgy if Wildig is all we have to offer as back up.

IMO Woods has progressed well beyond Wildig, especially in that holding midfield role which Woods has occupied so successfully for most of the season. However, if he still has a future with us, he should be able to compete with an out of form Grant, a very rusty Southern and an out of position Vernon for one of the rest of the central midfield places.

Wildig is more of an attacking midfielder than woods , with a better eye for a defence splitting pass. Woods game is simply about ball retention and little more, albeit he is very good at that

Who says Southern is unfit ?
I was surprised he didn't come on when Lawrence went off on Saturday

Basically Woods looks to be a very good footballer and if he gets the chance to play further forward in the future, I think he will prove to be very effective.

'Southern unfit' a 'very rusty Southern'........ Where does this come from? He's only had 1 min on the pitch hasn't he?

I am sure Wildig would fit in well in mid- field now Lawrence is out. Never seen Southern play, but if he is in the same "enforcer" mood that prompted MM to bring in Griffiths, then I despair. Wildig has played in League 1 , and played well, as well as coping with the more physical side of the game. Let's give him a go.

He asked what people were basing remarks about Southern's fitness on. Not quite sure how that's agreeing with them.

Woods is your defensive player, he allows the other 3 in the diamond to go and play.
Add in Southern, just screams too defensive to me.
I see Wildig as a perfect replacement for Lawrence, very creative and I'm sure he would do his all to stay in the team.
Give the lad a go Micky, if not a start then at least an appearance off the bench (which he hasn't even had yet?)

I'm not suggesting Southern over Wildig, I think he's been treated unfairly this season after being one of the better players last season... Just pointing out statements which have little substance when he may be fit as a butchers dog!!

Grant could come in for Lawrence although he hasnt been in great form recently. However a midfield containing Vernon, Clarke & Grant doesnt offer us much defensively, ironic considering this season much of the criticism has been how defensive our midfield has been.
I'd like to see a 4 of Woods, Southern Grant & Clarke, there's quite a bit of variation there

Confirmed that Wildig has returned along with Caton and Burton. Be interesting to hear MM's take on how successful they were - or not as the case may be.

Good. Not especially bothered how well (or not) they did on loan - fitness is the main thing. We saw on Saturday how thin the squad can look with a couple more injuries. That was more of a concern to me than the result. Time for everyone to be back, no point anyone being out on loan now. Besides, Wildig's a good player so why wouldn't we want him? And Caton showed promise early on. They may be needed and get a chance to shine. That apart, I think we still need to bring in another defender as cover. Or bring Smith back.

Yesterday Southern looked awful and Grant was ineffective. However, when Wildig came on he played the ball on the floor well and had good chemistry with woods, he also made a trademark run which did seem to worry the keeper and if the keeper had done anything else it was inevitably gloom to lead to a goal. Wielding must start the next match if we are to actually play football
