Is the Club Shop in town open now? They will make a killing if their fully stocked in weeks leading up to the Chelsea game. (Tickets and merchandise ) Why go up the the Meadow when you can pop in to town and do the same thing especially if there is lots of new stuff for parents who's kids see the stuff and do the (can I have can I Have) as the walk past to spend their money on in half term.

Will also be better after the badge vote is sorted out when it is stocking items with Clippy's replacement on it.

Timing is perfect. Whether it'll be sustainable in the long term I don't know but even so, great that the club are giving it a go. Should be off to a good start with the Chelsea game only a few weeks away anyhows.
Be good when someone can report in here after a visit.

loads of clearance bargains advertised online, I suspect no new items just yet, but good luck to Darwin centre shop. how about a club raffle of signed shirts, balls, clipart sign on stadium, genuine plastic copies of Roland's Wallet, sovereign hospitality etc. all income for the club.

I work upstairs in the Darwin and the footfall is abysmal. The wife works downstairs and she is nowhere near my footfall. Hopefully for everyone's sake this new place brings in the punters because from personal experience the Darwin is dying on its arse.

I think town centre shopping in the UK as a whole is dying on its arse...

Had a walk into Town earlier and there are certainly plenty of spare units in the Darwin Centre to move into. Low floor is practically empty; middle floor is maybe 50:50 open v closed and also some empty units on the top floor
Didn't realised Mothercare and Dixons had closed. Can imagine footfall there is pretty poor as a result.
Wyle Cop looks good though. Lots of independent shops and cafes there and couldn't see any empty units. Maybe people are preferring the independents over the big chains now

There can be a win:win here.
Out of town for the big chains, town centre for the independents.
The Darwin centre is a late eighties/early nineties development that is still trying to cater for that era. People don't shop like that anymore. The big chains have very sophisticated websites where everything is very easy, no hassles, no parking issues. Why go into town?
Shrewsbury Town centre is one of the best Town Centres in the country and it doesn't need big chain shops. It needs street markets, festivals, culture and diversity and lots of unique independents. Just look how popular the German Market has been in Birmingham over the Winter months. People will be attracted bu that type of event and the uniqueness of shopping. For anything else they can do it online.

When we take friends into town from other places we go to Eat Up for coffee, then the Fish Bar at the Market for lunch if there is space.
Either of them would thrive in Knightsbridge let alone Shrewsbury.
We've never had it so good.

Restaurant/Cafe wise we are spoilt for choice and I wonder if it will become too saturated. I see the boxing club on Smithfield Road is the latest to be turned into a restaurant but that should do fairly well with its riverside location.
The town centre is a mixed bad, some area's seem to be thriving (particularly independent shops) but the shopping centres are undoubtedly dying, I always thought that it was the Riverside which was a depressing place but walking through the Darwin is just as bad.
The nightlife is also a mixed bag. Nowhere near as busy as it once was and appeared to be dying but there are a few attempts to liven it up with the introduction of 'Blind Tiger', C21 having a relaunch and then Ive seen a few things on social media about a 'Bonds' and 'Waterfront' opening but dont know where these are, hopefully the former Bar Severn building which is a big waste.

I have seen markets/events in the square, but surely pride hill could be used as well. I had not realised The Darwin centre was so empty, do hope CEO. got a good deal on Shop. anyone know what floor it is on please.
Still think Shrewsbury Market is great. but there is bound to be more out of town stores particularly near the Greenhous. just hope Breweries invest in pubs, but there has to be new housing development to ensure this.

Click and collect would be idea for tickets and merchandise.
It would save people going to gm or relying on the Royal Mail
Customers would be safe in the knowledge that they have secured what they want, when they want - they may even make an extra purchase when they collect their orders.
If the shop does not last they could do an agreement with another outlet to do the same for them.

Seen two of the t-shirts as they were posted on Facebook by the fanzine chaps. There are ten designs in total that have been introduced and I guess all of them will be available in the new shop in town. Certainly a good way to get people interested and down to the new shop for a look see.

High rent in high streets does not help either.

Love shrewsbury as a town centre. As Dave says, incredible choice of bars, restaurants and cafés.
Shopping wise, the place appears to be dying on its arse though.
Compared to chester the gap has widened significantly over the last 10 years and the shopping centres are really struggling.

The only time I go into town these days is either as part of a walk for exercise or for a pint. I usually combine the two.
I'm really struggling to remember the last time I went into town to buy anything other than food and beer.

As part of AJ's 3 day state visit to Shropshire, he will visit town's new emporium a week today prior to lunchtime traditional visit to the 3 fishes in fish street
AJ and his "lucky" 2 Teddy Bears Graham and Roland will be holding an early session at The Railway Inn Yorton Thursday evening. Friday in Ludlow, Saturday hospitality deal at the Club, if my tickets/pass/ visa arrive in time to witness Town's 1st goal fest!.
like the sound of the t shirts, if I was allowed a suggestion 0ne would have been a transitional one with Shrew, Clippy, bend in river, Loggerheads and a Floreat salopia. another would have been a capital 1 shirt with the names of our 4 "conquests" on the reverse.! pip pip! Floreat Salopia.
tomorrow night very wet and windy, Saturday mainly dry in Plymouth though windy. Our Marv is getting regular football now with Argyle.

Compared to chester the gap has widened significantly over the last 10 years and the shopping centres are really struggling. You been into that Shopping Center in Chester recently, its pretty rubbish looking in terms of the units that are let too. Out side of that, much like town its really viberent, but as with most places, your mid 90s shopping centers are not highly praized locations anymore (unless your pound land) The other shopping center by the market in Chester is in a desperate state. The market was more filled and busy than that. Yes lots could be better in town, but i travel around alot, and in someways its no different to most towns and citys, better than some in many respects who's shopping centers are fallen away (as out of town grows) and don't have the independent shopping scean we have.

Just to advise, the old Bar Severn is being refurbished and will reopen as "Waterfront" as daytime competition to The Armoury, in the evenings it will be over 25s only and Revive/Flares as was is been refurbished as "Bonds"

Really do hope this is a success. With the ground now on the outskirts its great that the club have a presence in the town once again. Great news that tickets will be available from the shop too. Need something that will see supporters going back to the shop again and again and tickets will do that. Maybe get golden gamble tickets for sale too? Do the club have a lottery of sorts? Anything that can get the supporters visiting the shop other than just for merchandise gives it a decent chance of success.
