One goal in five games. Do we know our best team or formation?

Nostalgia time, Newport fans stuck in the 1970s.

Just back. Very disappointing game as like Tuesday we seemed to descend to the oppositions level and didn't really produce the passing football we can do
Odd formation of three strikers up front - two out wide really doesn't work and the three defensive midfielders after half time was just a joke. Game cried out for a bit of quality. God knows why Lawrence isn't getting game time
Vincent played well when he came on, but acted like a prize dick when the Newport player got sent off and was very lucky not to see red.
Manager and coach need to think about the tactics as really don't think we have got it right in the last few games

Leuwtiler
Grandison Ellis Goldson NKP
Lawrence Woods Wesolowski Clark
Collins Akpa-Akpro
That's the team I want to see

Aaaaghhh! So frustrating. Another match of ridiculous dominance and yet the ball won't go into the back of the net. But that has to change, and I'm sure it will. In all of the league games this season, we must average a 60-40 percentage of possession... over twice as many shots as the opposition... and the players are hungry to score. The floodgates have to open soon... two or three against Norwich will be a nice way to clear the blockage.

Very frustrating afternoon I think camdenshrew has a point not sure we do know our best team or formation I dont think Mangen is in his best position out wide and although Grandison is great going forward he still worries me defensively

No mention of the goal we scored 10 mins from time? Most in block 13 were sure it crossed the line and was clawed out by their keeper who then thanked the linesman for not giving it

Another unnecessarily testy Mellon reply in his interview with Dunny. When asked if he was happy with four points out of six from the last two games, he answered: "That's a ridiculous question" No it wasn't.
If he was irritated by a straightforward question like that, what would his reaction have been if he had been asked about only scoring one goal in five games or not playing Lawrence again?

Give County some credit.... they did there home work on us. We play ridiculously deep, especially Woods and Weso. They knew it. They pressed us high and we had no plan b. We only seemed to perk up once we got width with Vernon. I like Mangan but he's no winger!

The Lawrence question gets stranger - why bring on Griffith as a 3rd centre mid and leave Lawrence on the bench when it seemed the obvious chance to give Lawrence a run
A pretty forgettable game. The formations were interesting as we were overrun in midfield with 4 4 2 so went to 4 3 3 and created a midfield stalemate. We looked short of ideas on the pitch and in the dug out. Also a niggly game with a fussy ref, I thought their player was unlucky to get sent off.
No idea if ball crossed line from block 17 but only Vincent seemed to make a fuss about it
I am not convinced Ellis is any better than Darren Jones, in fact probably not. I still think the best we have looked all season is with a back 3 of Goldson, Grandison, NKP

Not good enough. We actually looked better with 3 centre backs with Gayle and Demetriou as wing backs with Clarke given the number 10 role. I'd like to see the same team that beat Leicester on tuesday against Norwich.

We have to learn to roll our sleeves up and win the battles before trying to play teams off the park and pleasing us.
The positive is we created some decent chances against a team that was well organised, battled hard and were almost Stevenage like in approach and attitude. In that respect they were probably the best team I’ve seen so far this season.
The word around the ground and in 17 is that Mellon doesn’t know his best 11 and formation. I agree, but he needs to sort it quickly otherwise we’ll just be chasing a play – off spot.
Also a sub 5000 gate despite a decent following from Newport.

A real game of what might have been. We started poorly, gave Newport too much possession, our passing was poor and we seemed disjointed.newport pressed us hard for the first 10 minutes without really threatening to score. Akpa-Apro should have scored but directed his header straight at their goalie. Young Woods and Clarke seemed off the pace, maybe they are being played too much? And need a rest, they are still learning the game and we seem to ask a lot of them.
Second half we enjoyed most of the possession. We had chances, Vincent ? Should have scored at the far post but gave the keeper a chance to save. From where I sat, BLock 9, the ball did not cross the line. Collins had a couple of shots, usual thing, hitting it as hard as he can. A typical lower league "banger".
Why AA was taken off I don,t know, complete mystery unless he was injured. Mangan is a box player, good movement, quick feet and aware of others around him. He does not possess the speed to get around his marker. I would like to see wingers played, like Vincent , Clarke or Caton. Caton had a poor game in the JPT but all players have poor games, but that performance seems to have resulted in him being overLooked. Cannot understand why Griffiths was brought on, we did not need a defensive midfielder, we needed some- one with a touch of class, a bit of guile to unlock a massed defence.Someone like Lawrence?
Still, it's still fortress Meadow, and we got another point. We can and will play better, and score goals. But, if this result and performance leads to muffled booing from the mongtards in our midst, I suggest they keep away , or , put another way, just **** off, we don,t need you.

Played off the park for first 10 minutes and played their hearts out in last 10 minutes.
Back to basics needed - remind me again who was named as Captain (and whilst Connor is one for the future LL has to be put back into starting line up).
Real chance wasted today with strange substitutions and them down to 10 with 10 to play!
Sure we will be knocking on the door at the end of the season - but my 12/1 to go up as champions is starting to looks as if I should have gone each way!!!

I didn't understand the half time substitution at all as I thought AA was our best player in the first half. Replacing him with a defensive midfield player who clearly looks short of sharpness seems a bit bizarre.

Very disappointing. Typical mid-table League 2 encounter - and I didn't expect to say that about us so soon after such an impressive start!
Frustrated and bored in equal measure. Worse than Tuesday -at least Carlisle played some football and we were better than today. Yeah, a point is a point and all those cliches but it feels more like a waste of everyone's afternoon.
