...so said the Chief Executive on the beer terrace of The Boathouse tonight. We lost 500k the year before last, 500k last year and we're On target to lose 400k this season, even if gates break even. We desperately need a cup run ( good luck with that Matt!- my thoughts at the time )
Granted he wasn't actually talking to me when he said it but seeing as I was at the next table I thought it rude not to listen.

None of that is remotely surprising, but to hear him say it is confirmation

None of that is remotely surprising, but to hear him say it is confirmation That's fair comment, partly the reason i thought it reasonable to post on here. A lot of the other stuff( that I wouldn't post ) was very illuminating though. Crikey, the stuff i learnt tonight

Did he say, "We've got to rid of the comedy lion". No. And to be honest he didn't mention beach towels once. But he was dismissive of the Radio Shropshire interview " you know, the usual local radio s**te " he did have a good word to say about Eleanor Holdroyd though

Loose lips and all that, after reading this I suspect Matt may choose a corner table with his back to the wall next time he goes out for a pint in town!

I reckon since moving to the new ground the club has lost about 1.5 million, and that is taking money received from transfer fees into account

Did he say how much he was going to spend on a new online ticket system? Here we are two weeks before our first home League game, yet we don't seem to be in a hurry to sell a match ticket for that game via our current system.Frightening!
When is the multi-ticket offer going on sale?
Where's the charm initiative to win back the missing STs - (golden opportunity missed with the dropping of the Open Day)?
Talked a very good game on Radio Salop, but the Blackpool reserved seats for STHs question exposed a gap in his attention to detail.
When the problem was first flagged, ticket sales for the Capital One Cup game were less than one hundred (and I'd guarantee that most of those sales were STHs buying their own seats!!!). Easily recoverable situation, but Matt decided to tough it out.
It IS going to have to be a great season on the pitch to reverse the trend of financial losses.

Someone who I know and has met the Chief Exec, described MW as "a blunt Lancastrian who speaks his mind". That's fine by me.
I have to agree with him about Hawkins and s**te. Well said Matt, top marks.

Nice to hear what's happening from the Horses mouth so to speak, but bit disappointed to hear the chief exec discussing such matters loudly in a popular drinking venue.
Not overly professional after seeming to starting so well, sounds a bit Rob Bickerton to me. Slagging off the local radio station a pretty dumb move too. We may all think what we like about the station but they are a pretty key partner to the club and a club official knocking them isn't a great or very bright move

Think I'd have listened with interest and let the man have his privacy. Genuine question, does hearing a private conversation mean something is in the public domain?

In the social media infested world I think you're simply better keeping your private thoughts private if you don't want them announced to the world within minutes of uttering them.

We can all argue the rights and wrongs of repeating a conversation overheard. It will depend on a persons upbringing and their morals.
It is safe to bet though that if someone is talking about things in a public place and not in the discreetest of manners, they will likely get repeated and spread if they are of general interest, be that in the pub, with workmates or friends and neighbours.

We may all think what we like about the station but they are a pretty key partner to the club and a club official knocking them isn't a great or very bright move I hope none of this is true but I've no reason to doubt jamo and would therefore agree with mattmw's post on this. If he was as indiscreet as the OP suggests (and I hope jamo's exaggerating), that's frankly very sloppy. He may be the bright new Chief Exec but he owes a duty of care to his employer and its employees. Also agree that being openly dismissive about his radio interview is poor form. I'm not concerned for the interviewer or Radio Shropshire's sake; they know the PR game well enough. I am disappointed if the Chief Exec takes such a dismissive attitude to the fans who wanted to hear what he had to say. Frankly, that's disrespectful to them. It's a two way street - in future, when he appears in print or on local radio or TV, are we to think "we know that's just the club's PR s****, not worth hearing"? Perhaps he'll clarify for us when it's s**** and when there's some substance to it. Oh well, I'm not going to let this spoil my positive feelings about the season ahead but it's certainly taken the gloss off my view of the new guy at the top.

All sounds very unprofessional. Have concerns if RW finds out about this he may find himself out of a job. It would be better for all concerned that this matter is forgotten and suggest the thread is deleted.

Surprised at the dismissive talk towards radio Shropshire. Wasn't any awkward questions, he was allowed to talk un interrupted and appeared all fine.
Unless he was less please with speaking to the fans!
radio Shropshire were hardly inquisitive and we're slow on asking about loggerheads until jim asked 44 mins into interview what logo would you put on the beach towels. Only wonder if off air they continued asking him about doing his monthly column for the radio? Whatever it's painted a different side to MW.

Shows the danger of the Internet.
What was a private conversation and probably a throwaway comment whilst having had a few drinks now becomes our chief exec slagging off our local radio station, something which is hardly going to help matters when we need STFC promoting.
Also I wonder if this will damage relations between fans & Matt who will now become wary of what he says and is even reluctant to be out and about in town which would be a shame. But of course it sounds a bit naive and unprofessional on his part, maybe he isn't the new messiah after all

Although M should have been more discrete, there are some things that you should think carefully about as to whether you should post them on line. This could be very damaging to the club and none of us want that.

Matt - we know you will read this.

The time is now.

Not what we need with one week before the start of the season.
This incident could have a destabilising effect across several key relationships within the club.
MW undone quite literally by the 'Word on the Street'.

Most interviews on local radio are s****, as are quite a few on regional TV. If he'd have said something along the lines of '' worst interview ever '' I could understand the furore, but it appears as if he's just comparing them to any other interviews he'd had, which are obviously s**** as a rule and Sloppy Radio are no better or worse.

Not being funny, but that was usual local radio rubbish.
The last question was about as daft an interaction as you'll ever listen to, widely derided on here at the time.
Context is everything.
I obviously don't think that this is a particularly savoury situation, and it's definitely a learning curve, but I'd imagine if any of us were overheard talking about our employer then we'd be on a disciplinary. Because when you're having a rant amongst friends it's always that much more dramatic and for effect rather than a reasoned critique of the situation.

Hardly wiki leaks is it.
I wouldn't think twice about posting what jamo has done, and as he says, there's plenty he hasn't written.
Roland promised us "open and honest communication" (albeit about four years ago). These is a very innovative way of achieving just that.
