clearly 2015 will be one of the dirtiest general election campaigns in living memory. Its effect could be to finally finish off any lingering faith that the populace had in the political elites in this country. Exactly, so why do you politicoes waste so much time slagging each other off, nothing ever changes! "Cynicism is utterly destructive of the democratic process - unlike argument, which sustains democracy." - Tony Benn

Oh, is it really? Surely that would be a political circle? I think you will find that the reason it is often described as a 'political spectrum' has probably got more to do with the fact that the word spectrum means a band of colours - i.e. a metaphor for a range of opinions. Now then, can someone tell me where that ignore button is . . . . So a spectrum can't be a sphere then? Interesting point of view. You're not familiar with Hans Eysenck's work then? No thought as much. Oh and please find the ignore button dipsh*t because you're getting boring now. good lad

You really do scrape the bottom of the barrel to try and make a point. Add to your list of Tariq Aziz's allies Pope Benedict hardly someone who one could be described as left wing. Have you considered that these two principled men were against capital punishment whatever the crime. As with many of the populace Tony Benn was against the war in Iraq, he stood on principle. Personally I would rather politicians that stood by their principles rather than the wishy washy bunch that currently spend their time ducking and weaving to avoid taking responsibility for anything.

Pope Benedict, and there's a man with a clear conscience too! Benn hated the Blair administration and with good reason, but cuddling up to terrorists certainly wasn't the most honourable way of going about it. Cut from the same cloth as that nutter Galloway, who I have equally as little time for. That said I didn't disagree with everything Benn stood for, and certainly hope he makes a recovery from his recent health scare.

I think Tony Benn probably knew Tariq Ali a little better. He certainly took the view that The decision by the then Prime Minister to go to war in 2003 was against this country's commitment to the UN Charter.

It’s irrelevant whether Tony Benn is a ‘nutter’ or who he has associated with. The quote is spot on. Added to that the argument needs to be informed and balanced and unfortunately hardly seems to be the case these days.
For example look at the replies to Sean’s post.
