Best - Joe Hart, although Steve Perks will always be the quintessential STFC keeper for me.
Worst - Ryan Esson - watching him at Bury that day was painful.

The Town keeper that drowned in a swimming pool was Paul Miller in the summer of 1963. Other keepers of that era were Mike Gibson who was agile but at about 5 ft 8 ins tall was too short and Alan Boswell who almost made Dunbavin appear normal. The original clown.

Best - Hart
Favourite - Perks
Worst - Neal, I can't think of another who made as many stupid errors in a season.

Really rated Scott Shearer when he was with us, didn't see too much of Hart.
Worst would probably be between Garner, Dunbavin and Cartwright.

Unfair mentioning Perks as the worst. He made the best save i've ever seen from any goalkeeper against Bradford in 1985. I wouldn't go as far as rating him as the best but he's certainly not the worst.
Best: Oggy, Hart, Wardle
Worst: Dunbavin, Cartwright, Neal, Esson and Ron Green

The goalie who died in the swimming pool accident in 1964 was Paul Mellor RIP. Our no 1 keeper at the time Alan Boswell could be brilliant on his day, although if my memory serves me well prone to the odd gaff or two. Perhaps my Boswell memories are rose-tinted as he used to play golf with my dad. Very exciting for me as a 10 year old!

Joe Hart was exceptional. I recall probably two mistakes from him in his full season playing for us. It was clear he would quickly move to a higher level.
I also think David Button was clearly way too talented for League 2 and was superb for us. I hope that he gets a settled contract and 1st team football somewhere soon as the number of loan moves he's had must be de-stabilising.
I was always on pins with Ryan Esson in goal, and I'm amazed Dunbavin's made a career out of the game.
Most of the dozens of others I've seen in goal fit nicely into the 'average' bracket.
Paul Edwards deserves a positive mention for the number of games and length of time he was with us.

"The goalie who died in the swimming pool accident in 1964 was Paul Mellor RIP."
He was Paul Miller, not Mellor. A hugely promising keeper.
Apart from Joe Hart, my own favourite GK (for those old enough to remember him) was Russ Crossley, then Ken Mulhearn. And for any real greybeards, I had a soft spot for John McBride.

The best has to be Bob Wardle for me, I honestly can't recall him making a serious error, big oggy a very close second. We have had our share of poor keepers the last 20 year's, Gary Germaine? Only played the one game at Doncaster but truly awful.

Only played the one game at Doncaster but truly awful. Then I suggest you check out the Leicester City v Shrewsbury Town Quarter Final on You Tube. Completely missed the ball from a corner allowing May to head in Leicester's 1st goal, in a mix up with Colin Griffin for Leicester's 2nd goal (though Griffin seemed more to blame), and dived over the ball for Melrose's 2nd and Leicester's 5th goal. Having said that, he was indeed an excellent keeper, and had one game at Luton where apparently he was unbelievable!

Just goes to show since Alan Boswell's time we have had some very good goalkeepers and only a few duffers! I was at Watford in Town's first season in league div 2 I think we won 1-0 (Dungworth) Wardle was world class that day.

Every keeper has a Gordon Banks v Pele save in them and every keeper has a " handling a bar of soap" style non save in them. Wether they make your best or worst list depends on if you have been lucky or unlucky enough to see them perform one or t' other. Always thought Hart was a good keeper but got beat too easily and too often on his near post. Still does.

Best: - Hart, Oggy, Mulhearn, Wardle Worst Paul Edwards, hoew many goals did he give away with his atrocious kicking and mad dashes out of the area to miss the ball by miles. Agree with the best, difficult to place 1 to 3 however my order, based on their performances whilst playing for the Town would be:-
1) Mulhearn (very fortunate to get a good keeper who stayed for 9 seasons) en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ken_Mulhearn
2) Wardle (Unfortunate to have the eye injury soon after his transfer to Liverpool, which prematurely shortened his career) www.lfchistory.net/Players/Player/Profile/506
3) Oggy en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Steve_Ogrizovic
4) Hart
Regarding Paul Edwards, I know where you are coming from but I think your rating is a little harsh, certainly not the worst and made some good consistent keeper performnces until the rules changed where a keeper could not pick up a backpass came into force and as you say he struggled with his kicking from a backpass! see Paul Edwards in this film, which (includes the Robbie Turner imo our worst ever loan player howlers) a good save at the beginning, maybe sold short with the back pass ! Great finishing from Griffiths!
Worst keepers for me:- Bob Tooze, Gall, Clark, Green, Dunbavin

Top has to be Joe Hart for me - it was clear he was a great talent, Oggy was fantastic (after a terrible debut in a friendly at Chester) but Bob Wardle was the single best performance I have seen in that game at Luton
Worst - I was struggling to choose until someone reminded me of Esson - he looked scared. However poor some others were at least they thought they were ok but he looked like he didn't want to be there
I thought Alan Boswell was great when I started going as a kid, then I saw playing for Wolves and Liverpool put 6 past him !

In my opinion the best keepers I have seen play for Shrewsbury Town are Ogrizovic, Wardle, Mulhearn and Hart. Oggy probably just shades it. The worst was probably Coco Cartwright.Honourable mentions to Dunbavin, Gall and Clarke.

I can understand people listing Ron Green as one of our worst keepers..but only if they are referring to one of his two spells with us. In the other one he was very good.

No mention whatsoever on here of Weale and Neal. I'll assume that others think they come into the Edwards/Perks category of o.k?

There's only 2 Ron Green's. The first time he played for us, he was atrocious. The second time when Ian McNeil brought him in on loan, he was fantastic. So much so, Walsall ended his loan spell and him back to Fellows Park. I remember going to Walsall shortly after for a Auto windscreens/sheepish Vans/Leyland Daf cup match, and Ron received a hero's welcome from the Town fans.
The best? Ken Mulhearn. He'd just won a First Division Championship medal when he came to us. How the hell he finished up at Gay Meadow I'll never know. His organising of the defence was different class.

Best - Jayson Leutwiler.
Worst - Scott Cooksey.
Although Chris MacKenzie was pretty crap!
Recall once we had a fat Neville Southall on the bench.

Whilst Hart or Oggy may have technically been the best keepers, for me Eagle was Mr. Shrewsbury Town. Why he didn't get a testimonial is beyond me - it was only a year out!

Best - Oggy, much more confident when he was between the sticks than anyone else (including Hart). Worst - Benny Gall was about as good as Benny from Crossroads - for those who put Steve Perks I know that all are entitled to our views, but really Before he injured his hand he was fantastic and didn't he win the best keeper in the division award
