All
Anyone in the West Stand (and Family Stand I believe) will have seen the start of the concourse project from the Trust with pictures on the walls... Personally I think it looks great and gives the stands some MUCH needed colour and heritage.
As it stands the trust have asked supporters groups to contribute to the next raft of boards for the West and South Stands.
As such I wanted to put this thread up to see if we can raise enough for a couple of boards, one for each stand. The cost is £50 per board.
I’m happy to sort and organise this from the B and A end, and collect the money.
If your interested in contributing to the idea then put your name up on here, and I will contact you with payment details - I can accept Paypal, Cheques, Cash (on a match day if applicable, or dropped though my door) so plenty of options for peeps to get the money to me to then pass onto the Trust when we are done collecting.
Were doing a fanzine as well in October, so you can pass Money onto me on the sales day to at the entry to the ground (more details on that soon!)
To make this as simple as can be can we limit lowest donations to £5. I know money is tight for folks at the moment so having a lower limit of £5 makes it a bit easier for folks to contribute a little bit.
I will start the ball rolling
El Hurrecan - £10 Baystonblue - £10 WimbledonShrew - £10
Cheers

Sorry if I am highjacking a fundraising thread and apologies if I have missed the point (no doubt someone will put me straight).
But the club now expect supporters to pay for improvements to facilities designed to encourage.coerce them to spend more money during the "match day expereince"?
I'd have thought creating a more hospitable environment for supporters which encourages them to spend more time and money at the ground whilst also encouraging supporters to take pride in the clubs history and ground would be something the club would look to sort out and arrange automatically (look at Arsenal, brighton and wembley as recent examples).
But STFC expect supporters to pick up the tab as well?

Yes i agree, they do look nice but the club should be paying for this if they expect people to hang around the concours and eat and drink extortionately priced food and drinks

Come on lads, here we have some-one who is willing to put himself out and do something for us, the fans, and we get a negative response straightaway. It' s something we can do, for ourselves, without club interference, and its towards purchasing just two boards. At least i can say, i helped to purchase those, and feel pleased with myself. Sometimes i think fans want the club to wipe their backside as well.
£10 FROM ME.

Not at all but the club need to decide exactly how it wishes to define the relationship it has with supporters (and I'm not including the people that work at the club on the ground level who go out of their way to help when they can) but the suits towards the top.

I offered to sponsor the board with clippy on,(as long as they replaced it with our Loggerheads) but the trust felt that the offer did not deserve a reply.

Firstly thanks pricey for making the effort to help us continue the project. All the help we can get is greatfully appreciated especially at this difficult time financially. For those who think the club should fund it, I'd personally rather all the money they have spare to going into getting us promoted and if the trust can make a difference to the fans match day experience then it's worth the 18 months of effort it's taken to get this off the ground. Finally I'm sure I did reply to the loggerheads request... I said if someone can provide a high res loggerheads image I'd get it printed , if I didn't reply please accept my apology.

But STFC expect supporters to pick up the tab as well? In an ideal world the club would pay for these sorts of things. But we dont live in that world yet, every spare penny goes into the playing budget at virtually every club in the country. Even at the bigger clubs, the focus isnt so much on the environment for supporters, it is solely on football. At the start of the concourse project, i mailed a few other trusts for ideas, and one of the biggest clubs in the country had a real battle to make their new stadium less bland. i think the club in question did pay for the decorations, but their ticket price is much higher than ours and there is all sorts of money washing about at the top of the premiership so they can afford it. Part of the trusts remit is to do things to help to improve the life of supporters. So rather than handing over a cheque like other supporters groups generously do, which goes into the general budget i guess, we focus on things we think the fans want or need. busses, socials, events celebrating our history and this. If the club did spend money on this, we would see an impact on ticket prices eventually. this way, people who care about how the ground looks can get involved and those that dont so much dont get a ticket price rise. One way or the other, the supporters pay, that is technically the point of the actual "club", to put money from the supporters, via sponsorship, commercial activities, tickets etc onto the football pitch. So although i agree with you in principal, I also agree with suttonshrew given our position , let the club concentrate on the football

Thanks very much for the response. I would add that the increase in matchday prices to $19 doesn't exactly make STFC a cheap option...
More expensive then Fulham and a number of premierleague clubs, who despite having greater revenues have far higher overheads and greater wage/revenue ratios.

More expensive then Fulham and a number of premierleague clubs, who despite having greater revenues have far higher overheads and greater wage/revenue ratios. Hi, just checked on the fulham website and the only ticket prices i could find were for the upcoming game against Everton on oct 23rd, the cheapest adult ticket is £30 and the most expensive is £55. Cheapest kids ticket is £10. But as you said, this is not the point of the thread. Thanks so far to those that have come forward to help, and if anyone wants a whole board to themselves, we have some left to cover that too. Board Sponsorship costs just £50. For that, you will have your name on our sponsorship roll of honour, located within the concourse area of the Greenhous Meadow. You will also receive a replica of the board that you have sponsored in A4, to keep for ever. Your name will be honoured in the official match day programme, around the time of your sponsorship. We will also arrange for you to have your picture taken with your sponsored board, and a member of the Shrewsbury Town squad! (if available) for further details, pop to www.shrewstrust.comThanks again

The tv's in the concourses were paid for by the Super Blues The scoreboard was paid for by the Super Blues The Super Blues organised the opening of the Powerleague on matchdays The Super Blues organised the opening of the walkway behind the West Stand Its Shrewstrust who help organise a number of coaches to the grounds from local pubs Much is said about the new ground and how its far superior to the old ground. If it was up to the club my matchday experience would be severely worse than the old ground, the only benefits would be not having to hold my breath when going to the toilet and getting a beer at halftime. Instead Id be sitting down in a sterile ground with little colour and no additional facilities compared to the old ground, with the added bonus of it being very inconvenient to get to. Sorry to take this away from the point of the thread

Some good debate on here... does not take away from the underlieing feeling that since the new stadium move the fan base has become more distanced from the club as a whole does it... certainly the prevailing feeling at the moment I would say...
Anyway - Two more folks and we have enought for the first B and A board..
I can bet that 8 years ago this thread would have been unviersally praised as a good idea at the Gay Meadow and raised loads... think if anything it proves the point about fans expecting more from the club in general nowadays..

I wouldnt say that I feel any more distant from the club than I did say 10 years ago. I have never had much dealings with the club other than 90 minutes every other Saturday, and that hasnt changed since the ground move
My frustration with the club is that they moved from a ground which had terrible facilities but was very convenient for fans, to a ground which is very inconvenient, more expensive, is less enjoyable and if it was down to the club, would be a basic shell of a stadium with very few additional facilities for fans
Ive been fairly supportive of the club with regard to the ground move and Ive defended it when I inevitably hear from fans the "its not the same now......". However I would love to hear how the club could say that my matchday experience has been enhanced since the ground move. As far as I can see it has been down to the actions of the supporters groups which have made my matchday experience easier/more enjoyble.
The clubs reaction always tends to be "we dont have the money" which of course you can understand, but surely some facilities/costs for the supporters should have been factored in at the outset

Brilliant, and in just 24 hours! I think you are right about expectations being higher now. things are very different these days, we live in an age where everybody has a status to update or a messageboard to talk on. I think it sometimes forces people to have an opinion on everything, because the alternative is having nothing to say (which is no good on a messageboard or facebook et al). We are also overloaded with information, it is very easy to have a quick search and find a club doing things differently, then argue that our club should do something similar, with no idea of the different situations at each club. A little bit of knowledge can sometimes be a dangerous thing as people make the wrong assumptions to fill in the gaps. i think the recession also has its part to play, people are not so happy these days, worried about losing their jobs, taking pay cuts or even taking redundancy. I think people are starting to look at what their money actually buys them and are asking questions as to why things cost what they do.

By sponsoring is that for an annual basis and then sponsorship crops up again next season?
I will donate £10 on the proviso that it is the loggerheads badge in all its glory! How does that sit with fellow B&A'ers who have/will contribute?
Do we get a choice as to what goes up?

We only intend on doing this once, there is plenty of room to add to the images in the future so sponsorship would be ongoing and not just for 1 season. Thanks to everyone who's agreed to donate so far, as I said the more sponsorship we can get the more boards we can put up. Cheers

Agree with Shambles, this is surely something the Club should be looking at.
As for the trust, perhaps they should go cap in hand to the Super Blues who seem to be able to raise funds very well.

Agree with Shambles, this is surely something the Club should be looking at. As for the trust, perhaps they should go cap in hand to the Super Blues who seem to be able to raise funds very well. I am pretty sure that all supporters groups have been asked if they would like a board. Super Blues are purely a fundraising organisation, with quite a bit more experience than us at raising money. We also have an issue in that we have arrived on the scene much later than Super blues and the OSC. It leaves us less scope because we dont want to nick other fundraising ideas from them, treading on their toes so to speak. Maybe if we had decided to fund this through poker evenings and raffles etc instead of this more direct approach, the subject of whether the club should pay directly may not have even come up. but we thought it would be nice for supporters to have their names on a board rather than the trust taking all the credit, a supporter focused project. If the club did fund this, it would have to come out of what is a finite amount. so it would mean either the money would have to come from elsewhere within the club. however it is done, put 10p on the price of a programme or the entrance fee or asking fans and business to sponsor the boards, the fans will end up paying for everything. money doesnt just appear from nowhere in the clubs bank account, any more than it does in mine or yours. If we as supporters want something, it has to be paid for. Whether we pay extra to the club to do it or collect the money ourselves really doesnt matter does it? What is the difference between this project and the many flags that are around the ground that were paid for by supporters? nobody suggested the club paid for those.

everybody is entitled to their views but i tend to disagree with the point that the club should be doing this. as an independant supporters group we are trying to do something that improves the fans match day experience and also adds to our ground. Since the move we have heard time and time again that the ground has none of our history and lacks a personal touch, i find it dissapointing then that when we try and do something to improve this we get grief for not making the club pay or not getting the superblues to fund it. this is a trust project which we have combined with the excellent work the club and FSC are doing with the heritage project and the images we and the fsc have sourced will be goign around the county to schools, clubs and old peoples homes promoting our club and hopefully providing a valuable resource for years to come.
as with the superblues we rely on donations and members, all the money raised via donations goes to the project which is run by the clubs only independant supporters group, whether we get 30 donations or 3000 ill be happy in the knowledge we have contributed something to the stadium for years to come and brought a bit of history into our new stadium.

From a personal perspective, Im not knocking the Trust, Super Blues or any fan trying to contribute to a better match experience and trying to recognise our history
My frustration is why should it be down to the fans to do this in the first place.
