Ok, theres a few aspects of his game that Smith could brush up on, but you show me a keeper who is the 100% finished article, christ even Saint Joe has his hairy moments with aspects of his game, his kicking for one thing and he's the best we have in the country. Last yr our upturn in fortunes hinged on 2 things, our dealings in the january transfer window and Smith replacing Neal between the sticks, for as brilliant as Neal was at home to Rotherham, he cost us quite a few points elsewhere. I also think some of the flak he's gettin this season, Burton for example was more the fault of the centre backs in front of him but IMO over the course of the season Smith will save us far more points than he will costs us.

Smith is paid to save us points and is certainly NOT paid to cost us.
But he is looking more confident this season and getting better.

Is it just me or does anyone else feel he could have done better with the Gibbs goal which was the turning point of the game?
No blame attached to him for the other 2 goals though!

not sure about that goal, possibly could have done better? but regardless he made a lot of really good saves tonight - had he not been there we might have been losing quite early on!

Thought he could have done better for the first and second
First seemed to be a bit of a strange goal and I wonder whether his positioning was the best. The second goal seemed to go under him, although it was struck well and zipped off the surface

Can't blame a keeper for a free header which the first goal was

The fact that he got across and down to the first goal would suggest to me that he could possibly have done better - the second was definitely an error in judgement, shouldn't be getting beaten from distance with a clear view and then allowing the ball under your body, good shot yes but I'd reckon that Smith probably thinks he could've done better with that one.
That said and we could have been 2 down in the first 5 minutes if it wasn't for 2 very good saves - he had more than his fair share of work to do last night and on the whole did well.

think he's a decent keeper and got great potential......aslong as he keeps cutting out his errors like the one at vale and hairyfud at home.... thought he couldve done better for the first 2 arsenal goals!!!! but dont want to criticise him too much.. we could have been 2-0 down before taking the lead last night!! but its all about learning from your mistakes im sure he's gonna be a great servant to the club!!

The problem for the first goal was it was infact a near post cross, so Smith was moving towards his near post, as the ball was accidentally flicked on by Grandison he had to go all the way across to the other post. Hard to blame him for that one though once he'd got down to it then maybe he could have saved it, it would have been a great save though.
The second was a pacey, swerving, venumous, dipping shot, but Smith himself in the Shropshire Star said he should have saved it
