Pretty decent, good passer, up and down the pitch player and popped in a few goals. pace was his one major deficiency in my opinion.

He scored a goal, jumped around in celebration, twisted his ankle and had to go off!

I played against Ricky a couple of times. Good player at Town, good engine but lacked pace, as mentioned above.

the old git beat me at doms last night Did he jump up and down, get knocked over by his team mates, and twist his ankle? If he did, he's out next week for sure.

won player of the season c 1970 and in those days they used to present it on the pitch after the last home game. Ironically he got sent off in that game before being awarded the honour afterwards.
Solid, combatative midfield player, not the quickest though!

Genuine,hard working,hard tackling............
He'd get a red card now about every 3 games not because of being dirty but because the authorities are trying to turn the game into a non contact sport..............

One game sticks in my mind and that was beating league leaders Luton (including Supermac) 5-1
Ricky seemed to run the game that day and I think he scored (maybe 2, mot everything sticks in my mind these days)

If I recall correctly, Harry Gregg noticed, on the team coach, that Ricky was reading a paper but holding it about 24" away from his face.
Harry arranged for Ricky to go to an optician, which confirmed he required glasses. Thereafter Ricky played in contact lenses, as a consequence his disciplinary record improved.

Great player for Town, and remember his equaliser in a 1-1 draw against Villa at the Meadow in 1972, he ran the length of the stand in celebration. He had quite a battle with Andy Lochhead that night.
Hard tackler and hard grafting midfielder, not the quickest as said before
Great bloke as well and glad to say I know him reasonably well.

One of my favourite Town memories!

He ran a very nice pub in the Cheshire village of Goostrey, near the Jodrell Bank radio telescope. I had a chat with him which was printed as an article in B&A magazine many years ago.

As I recall, Ricky went into training the next day, put his glasses on and said, "**** me, I didn't know we played in blue".

Even when he was young he looked as though he had been in a fight with Joey Barton's brother. Really tough little midfielder with a love for football that was infectious. One player you could never accuse of "hiding" in a game. Tough, low center of gravity, good ball winner and passer. Not one of the great Town players, but a good one. As said, a little low on pace and short of fuse, but even with those drawbacks, he'd be in the reckoning for a starting place with us today.
