Thinking about you today mon, Milliband was apparently dubious for Prime Minister Questions with a sniffle, and Ed Balls was on stand by to step in. As things turned out, Milliband soldiered through in his inept style and dispite one of the worst weeks stats for any PM I can ever remember Cameron sauntered through 30 minutes of inept questions. Are you available next wednesday if there is a repeat

Yes, I plan to attend. Far more important than the Rotherham match and crucial to build momentum at local level ahead of the TUC demo in March.
As George Monbiot wrote this week:
To understand its position, you must first understand that the government is not managing the economy for the people of this nation. It is managing it for a tiny transnational elite, a kind of global gated community. To the people inside the gates, who fund the Conservative party, who own our politics, the media and the banks, the rest of us are an inconvenience, to be bribed, threatened or fooled.
Time to make a united stand.

Its just started filtering down from the public to the private sector..........the loss of contracts from 1/4/2011 is regretable, but dont blame Shropshire Council, blame Cameron / Clegg / Osborne / Pickles. I currently know two private sector mates in Shrewsbury made unemployed by this, a bus operative who's contract has been cancelled and a bricklayer who's firm did have council contracts now cancelled. There will be more. "And the private sector will pick up the shortfall" (CAMERON 25/7/2010) yeah right it will

Is there a better way of doing things though?? not sure< i will admit my ignorance to Th e Grange.
But just a little a little indication as to the waste of public money from the public sector!!
My wife works for the PCT in Telford and has been told she must do a customer care NVQ which is great, but the PCT can only use TCAT as a training provider. TCAT will claim in the region of £960.00 from the public purse for this, and will also charge the PCT £400 per candidate.
Because of red tape they cannot go elsewhere to get value for money, there are litterally hundreds of service providers that will do this for free and just claim the Adult Learning fee from the Government!!

But rather than bleat about it, i have got off my arse and found further work to keep my workforce happy and in jobs!!

Go on then, list 5 providers - out of the apparently hundreds available-that will do this course for nothing that are professionally recognised by employers,

"Miles" is a massive massive generalisation

Seems to me that some of us blame the current situation on the public sector, the majority of which are poorly paid. If these "blinkered" intellectuals would indulge in a bit of joined up reasoning, they would quickly realise that the more people made redundant = less money spent in the private sector= more redundancies= round and round we ****in go. Very soon people like yourself are going to find themselves bitten very hard on the backside because of these cuts. To blame the public sector shows a complete lack of understanding. Open your eyes and see the bigger picture.

Open your eyes and see the bigger picture. I am not blaming the public sector, I have utmost respect for all public sector employees, I was indeed one for 22 years. What I am saying is that there is huge waste of public money within the public sector, and these wastes need to be rectified. Reg, it does work like that,I have been doing NVQ's for the last 5 years, quite successfully, I even offered STFC an Introduction fee of £200 per candidate to do the NVQ in spectator safety, but this got refused by Jon Harris. £960 is the going rate for first NVQ and subsequent ones after that are approx 60%, this is now changing though.

Depends, if there were say 10 or more candidates, they would probably do bespoke courses to your premises, I would!! and have done so on several occasions!!

Jamo, it is not the £400 that is a direct cost to the PCT!! as is being charged for my wifes NVQ, in effect the Public purse is paying twice, 1 from the Learning Skills Council and the PCT itself.

Let's not get sidetracked withs some obscure debate on training providers, I can't find stepping stone (except for one that appears to train people for child and nursery care) on the web and Akona appears to be security training for sporting events, to pick the two names I've had a butchers at.
Let's stick to the purpose of this march:
To protest against a government paying for the cost of an economic crisis triggered by the financial sector with cuts to public sector services and jobs - while it continues to serve the interests of its City paymasters.
The damaging consequences of this austerity drive are already being felt with rising unemployment and record youth unemployment.
Enough is enough. Get out and support the march - If you live in the Shrewsbury area there's no excuse for not getting to Shirehall for 11.00!

Stepping Stone, is a small provider, I will give you the MD phone no if you want it< IMHO, the best provider of CS Courses going. Akona, Does security and CS as at sporting events you get a hell of a lot of customers that need help!!

As to the march.
What cuts are specifically being protested against, or is it all of them?? have any descions been made as yet and have alternatives been looked at and debated??
