we were in the press room watching when it went in and it drew audible gasps from everyone in there. Stunning technique. Best of all time though? Not sure about that. I remember a volley by Mark Hughes playing for Wales against Spain I think it was, at Wrexham in the early 80's. He was virtually horizontal when he struck the ball at shoulder height and it flew into the top corner. The best goal I ever saw! And against one of the world's best keepers at the time.

Hoddle scored a cracker scissor kick once Against man u
As far as united go it probably ranks as one of the best More so for timing and importance than the actual technique
A few people mentioned the title is all over I still think at this point of the season the side in 4 th still has the best opportunity to win for many a year I still fancy arsenal

The Berbatov hat trick goal against Liverpool earlier in the season wasn't far off the Rooney goal either. Would a hat trick against them count as much as a derby winner given they probably hate the Merseysiders more?

For me this is goal of the season, a better goal than Rooney's. Gareth Bale against Stoke.

Lets be fair, the press tow the line and so you have to expect them to go over the top. The best goal ever? Don't make me laugh. They are saying it were the best goal ever cos it were scored at the weekend...and that's about it... A great goal, top goal no doubt...but the best ever...

Did it make you chuckle ? ;-) Indeed! The English sporting press are a constant source of a amusement... Maybe that’s a tad unfair, more so the footballing press of England I should say… Pretty sure the commentator at the time was saying he’ll never hit one any better. Just as they were showing the replay with it coming of his shin…

Isn't that even better skill ? Takes some doing to complete an overhead shin goal All the top players can manage a bog standard kicked goal
Maybe it was just lucky and should ruled out
Let's not forget city's goal ;-)

I am pretty sure that the good old toe poke is frowned upon in some quarters, looked down upon. In my experience its one of the hardest things to do when going for goal. We can add the shin to that now… City’s goal had a massive amount of fortune about it. Pretty much the only way they were going to score the way things were going for them… Maybe it was just lucky and should ruled out? It should be! I recall as a kid the ‘s**t goals don’t count’ ruling…though that was more for tackling yer goal hangers…

Lou macari scored a cup final winner once with his arse ;-) Macari only played in one cup final winning team (1976-77) and never scored - you been on the strong cheese before bedtime again It was his shot which was going wide until it deflected off his own player and went into the net . Just like Rooneys goal , lucky deflection .

It was the effect it had on the crowd (both sections) which made it memorable for me
