Just to clarify the debate about what Paul Simpson may have said or not said on Sky at the Bury match. That part of the pre-match discussion was as follows. David Jones (Sky) "And you'll know as well Paul there is a huge expectancy around Shrewsbury Town." Paul Simpson "There is. There's an expectation about Bury as well because they've been up there but at Shrewsbury they have to be promoted, they've chucked the kitchen sink at it this year, they are desperate to get out of this league." This, again, is an example of Simpson knowing that the majority of his media audience is ignorant of the full facts and thus deciding it's probably safe for him to get away with distorting them. You got fired because you were heavily backed and yet produced a mediocre team so awful to watch that half the population of Shrewsbury ended up in the RSH due to spontaneous bleeding from the eyes, Paul. Accept it.

The money for Duyan would have been compo right? He was a youth team player. Which might explain the amount. Nope, Duyan was on a one year professional contract, and was bought by Gaziantepspor for the fee quoted above. If he had left at the end of the season, when out of contract, he could have gone for free if we didn't offer a new deal, but instead we decided to sell him!

It was a strange one, i think we'd have let him go for free at the end of the season and we end up getting a fee for him. Good luck to the kid but a great bit of business by the club.

£45k for a third choice keeper who's never made a first team appearance? Grest result that! Apparently we have sold another keeper this week. Everton have taken a young keeper a young lad called Springfield (cant remember first name), not sure about financials but I would hazard a guess there are "futures" in it. According to the person I spoke to in the Powerleague pre kick off several premier clubs were looking at him but Everton him on. One to watch and shows just how strong the youth set up is becoming.

His comments were definitely aimed at this season, whatever the words he used. The fact he had a higher wage bill and spent more in transfers than Turner, kind of rubbishes the statement, which is what so angered Turner. Pretty much as I saw it. The comment HAD to be about this season, why else would he make such an stupid comment whilst live on TV? Th blokes press record has hown that he can say pathetic things and IMO this was one of them. He cam, he saw, he FAILED miserably.

I stand corrected gentlemen. That's not how I recalled it but then I had had a few by then. A daft thing to say considering the support he had and the money he also had made available, he were the manager when Holt came to the club...

I remember at the time being amazed he'd said what he did. To be fair we made about £300k on Holty so not a bad bit of business. I know which manager I'd prefer to be here though

Best part about the Springthorpe deal is that the Manchester City scout turned up on Saturday to watch him against Bury, only to find out he had already been sold to Everton!!
