Good reports on all the young lads signed. Obvious reasons behind those leaving the club and best outcome for all parties concerned. Davies can play midfield but hoped we could of got 1 more for that general role b4 window shut so 7/10 for me. Proof will be where we are come may. 9/10 for me now. 3 points now needed Tuesday. Will be interesting to see players who now have some serious competion for there place respond?

I have to say I am a bit confused as to why we have this mad scramble on the last day, and by a few of the moves
Surely we don't sign an Englnd u-19 keeper as 3rd choice, so is Neal now 3rd choice ?
Still don't have a right back, but we have released one - it will be either a midfielder or a centre half tomorrow night
I presume Disley and Wroe will be centre mid with Wright on one wing and no idea who will be on the other
Probably Harrold and Collins up front
Either GT is a genius and we go on a great run, or we are already "building for next season" - I really am confused, and the squad does not seem very balanced - today seems like we are making panic signings, but hope I am wrong

All this big stuff about Wroe, the player who was good last season, and so good this season he has spent half of it on the transfer list, would not mind if it was from a top 3 club or league or 2 above, but a torquay cast off!! there manager says "a good move for all" meaning, he is crap, and even better we got a fee for him!!
Honestly, totally unimpressed, loanees and Wroe!! big Flippin deal, bit like the last stance of Peters.......... hope i am made to eat humble pie!!
totally bizarre day!!

I think Turner is always building for next year, and the young lads point to that again, especailly with the GK & CH. Did we release a RB?!

Correct, I dont get the SS. Surely both can be done at the same time ? Strengthen the team now for promotion, and look to next season with loanees (including Grandison) if they work out & can be signed on permanent terms. Have the players allowed out weakend us enough to damage this seasons objectives? We all know there will be at least 4 departures in the close season, so hes already looking at replacing those with the Loanees i'd guess.

Well now that the dust has settled I can't say that I see the new arrivals kick starting our campaign this term.
Mr Turner himself said two things last week, firstly he had tried to get several players in at the beginning of the week to no avail. Thus one can assume that the players brought in yesterday were not top of his shopping list.
Mr Turner also stated he wanted to bring in better players than we currently have.....I honestly don't feel he has achieved this.
One can only hope that he weaves his magic and gets the results to move us up, yet even here I have niggling doubts. Hereford were slated on here a couple of years ago for building a promotion campaign on loanees. And here we are trying the same tactic - does opinion turn to accept this because now it is us and not Hereford ?.
In closing I easily predict another season in League 2 next term.

Quite comfortable with these developments. On a constrained budget GT has shuffled the pack to cover where there are the most deficiencies. We have a lot of strikers if Turner thinks we're always going to play with one up front in away games. It may be the case that this will provide a little bit of fresh impetus and get us into the play-offs. But to actually get promoted we need our best players to play and to perform: McAllister, Disley, Harrold, Ainsworth and Wright. Neither has happened often enough.
The most likely scenario is play-off disappointment.

And here we are trying the same tactic - does opinion turn to accept this because now it is us and not Hereford ? Of course it does our kid, you have to ask?! Back to the question... Well I suppose like most I haven’t got a clue about the two lads who have come in from the Albion and the Dingles respectively, we’ve just got to wait and see. Some folk seem quite keen on the chap from Torquay so that does sound promising. Maybe Turner didn’t get his first choice but at least we have freshened things up a little bit. Turner mentioned that the changing room were a tad flat after the Oxford defeat, no doubt even worse following on from the defeat at Gigg Lane. So I think it was imperative that he did bring new faces if nothing more than to try a give the place a lift. Might also give one or two the kick up the arse they need to knuckle down and get back to their best with the additional competition for places. That can only be a good thing. Very interested to see how the team will line up once all the new signings are available, whether they will start or whether they are here to make up the numbers… I don’t know the ins and the outs but let’s not forget that Turner had a successfully season with Hereford picking out loan signings who were more than capable in the 4th division. So let’s not pooh-pooh his choice of players this time around until we’ve seen what they can do…

One person I feel sorry for - Danny Taylor
What does the arrival of young loanees tell him after the revolving door at Planet Greenhous spewed out Dean Holden?
Taken from the official site............
Danny Taylor is another of our home grown players, having come through the youth system at the Greenhous Meadow. Last season he impressed with 2 mature displays in league 2. He made his League 2 debut as a substitute in a home win against Dagenham, when Dean Holden was injured in the 18th minute. He had such a good game that he was asked to cover for Dean in the following match. Having signed a new contact in the close season, Danny will be hoping to make an impact on the first team, and is definitely one to watch.

The most likely scenario is play-off disappointment. I'd rather finish 8th. Despite the rhetoric coming out of GM; I feel GT has written the season off.

At least GT has realised that the team so far just isn't good enough. Bringing in a load of new faces is a massive gamble, but do bear in mind that despite recent results we are still in a very good position to go up IF the new team can go on a good run of results.

Well looking at yesterday's dealing in the cold light of day I must admit to be totally underwhelmed, two experienced pros out one in and 3 youngsters on one month loan contracts.
Obviously it would be wrong to criticise any of the players but I feel that questions must be asked on the benefits to the first team squad of some if not all of the loan moves:
Does the club actually need a third goalie to sit on the bench at reserve games, what benefit do Wigan get from that so is Neal about to become a high priced third choice keeper?
According to Shrewsweb Downing "might get some football under his belt".
Unless these are loans with a view to permanent moves I honestly do not understand the logic.
It does not seem to bode well for our home grown talent.
Wroe hopefully will add to his tally of goals but fans need to recognise that he has never played in a higher league than league two. Be interesting to see who he is partnered with in central midfield.
I hope the moves wakes the team up but I'm not holding my breath.

I am happier now I find out we have a right back, and I think Grandison looksa useful signing.
I assume Downing is just cover while Grandison is injured, so that we have a centre half on the bench
Wroe has a lot of pressure to be the signing we need in midfield, lets hope he is up to it
Davies I assume will play wide right because GT has lost faith with Ainsworth and Leslie - this position is surely still up for grabs
If the service improves, Harrold, Collins and Bradshaw should score some goals
It may all be a bit late for this season, as it may take some time for the changes to bed in, but the right back does make the squad more balanced
I am still not sure about the keeper signing - it will be interesting to see what happens

Ed, doesn't the Grandison development rather suggest that this is exactly what they are? GT's quotes on the Downing signing would also back this up. No point in spending money unless it's the right thing to do, and no harm in looking at players for the future. The signings of Davis (has played rightback) , Grandison (played RB for us), and Lomax, another RB, would suggest to me a few things:
1 - Turner really was at his tether in regards to Holdens contribution. 2 - He doesnt see Taylor as being ready/good enough 3 - Ravens injury is more serious than they expected.
on what I've seen of Grandison so far, I'm happy we've got him signed & sealed.

I'm pretty optimistic (one of only a few town fans with that approach by the looks of it!) with the signings we've made.
Wroe seems like a decent attacking midfielder, hopefully add a couple of goals and some much needed creativity. Gradison looks handy and can play in several positions, but most importantly right back. Importantly GT also has some experienced cover at right back with the lad from Oldham.
We've cleared some more of the deadwood out now as well with Holden, Bright, Lewis Neal etc going.
I never expected automatic promotion this season but it is still possible. Put a half-decent run together in League 2 and anything is possible.

Dont really understand the Goalkeeper signing but apart from being slightly surprised by Robbo's premature departure (I expected him to go in the summer instead) I think GT has made a few good dealings.

I can't imagine Wigan letting a 'keeper join us on the basis of playing a reserve game one a fortnight, so I guess he will be a starter.
I do understand the search for a new 'keeper, the 2 we have inspire no confidence whatsoever.

Chris Neal is out of contract in the summer I think so this could be the beginning of the end for him, think Ben Smith is slightly better and thats about it. If only we could have signed Steve Phillips permanently when we had the chance

I'm pretty sure Neal is contracted for another season.
I don't personally view goalkeeper as our biggest problem area, although I do agree with the Shropshire Tenor - if the kid was starting regularly for Wigan reserves then what's the point of him coming in to play for our reserves? Does rather suggest he may be a possible starter sooner rather than later.

I would be surprised if 50% of new signings were successful. There have been so many false dawns over recent seasons. Do not expect it to help improve Town's promotion challenge. Think club will still finish outside playoff positions.
Tonights game will probably be a case of players trying to gel and will be lucky to get a point.

Time will tell on whether the new players can push us forward but I am pleased with the type and position of players brought in. The range of deals is encouraging also. GT's reputation as a loan arranger seems to have been left at Hereford as he has been involved in a range of transactions since joining us. It's certainly becoming apparent that he wants the basis of the team to be good, young players and that is refreshing.
Cant be forgotten that as well as the 11th hour deals, this January GT also secured Collins and Wright permanently and Sadler (until the end of the season).

Great result today, well done lads.
Il stick with my 9/10 for new signings and we now look like promotion contenders again.
Any of the doubters want to review there thoughts on GTs transfer dealings or our prospects for the rest of the season?
