Having listened to GT on the radio, he thought Robinson was ineligible for them tonight, yet he played and scored.
Could Torquay have made a monumental cock up, resulting in points deductions etc?
Will be interesting to see what comes of this.

As I understand, to play today you had to be signed by 12pm yesterday (midday). The fact as Twitter proved Robinson didn't even know anything about the move till gone 6pm would suggest there is no way he could of signed by 12pm and I think Turner's comments back this up. I imagine this is why Torres was not in the Chelsea squad?

And why most of our new signings weren't either.

I believe that because Jake is on loan he was eligible to play. If he had signed permenantly he would not have been able to play. When we signed Exodus from Posh earlier in the season was he not signed on the day of the Crewe game

Then why wasn't Downing eligible??
I reckon there is more to this than meets the eye!

Should have Grandison have started? Was he signed before 12? Technically the paperwork should have been there by 12 if we signed him and cancelled his loan.

Or is Grandison still technically classed as a loan player until tomorrow or something like that? A murky rule!! Will be interesting to see what happens!

Can you say 'We want to sign him but not for 2 days because we want him to play tomorrow'?
Sounds dodgy...

We got done in the welsh cup for something similar We had renewed a loan and even though Ron green had played for us for months they had us on a petty technicallity saying he hadn't been signed in time to play

Bet they called it an emergency loan to enable him to play.

Bet they called it an emergency loan to enable him to play. They had 2 strikers on the bench, so it'd seem doubtful they could have done this.

Turner 63 years old, managing teams since the 70's and Buckle who is an inexperienced manager and probably still in primary school when Turner had his first spell as manager with us.
My moneys on GT being right. He must know this rule especially due to all the loans he had at Hereford. He seemed baffled as to why Robbo played.

I had forgotten how late we signed exodus before the crewe game - it seems to me that Torquay probably have it right, and we could have had more of our signings involved
who knows wht would have happened then?

Exodus's was on an emergency loan hence why he was eligible to play against Crewe. We had no defensive cover I remember that with Raven, Sharps, O'Donnell, Goldson and Hooman out of the match.

Originally the football league said Grandison couldn't play last night. The club were unhappy about it and asked for clarification with the FL relenting to allow him to play against Burton.

A salutory lesson in reading threads to the end before posting. i was just about to rant about all the idiots on here who don't know the rules thinking they knew better than a professional football club. Well they did.

Link------> OOPS! CLUB STATEMENT Posted on: Wed 02 Feb 2011 TORQUAY United have informed the Football League of an incident relating to Tuesday night's match with Hereford United at Plainmoor. The club was alerted to the fact an unregistered player had taken the field after kick-off and we have voluntarily offered our explanation to the Football League. We are now waiting for a response from the Football League and, as such, we will be unable to make any further comment at this time.

Though a fine and points deduction would be expected for this error, it would be more comical if the Football League made them play the game again - that would please hariyford!

They didn't benefit - I would think a max punishment of a fine and perhaps their GD being altered to expunge the goal he scored.

If they have points deductions that will be a great bit buisness for us!
