Salop v Crewe at Old trafford. Now that could be an interesting train journey. M6 may be a bit busy to. Plenty of empty seats when we get there though.

So glad it isnt Wembley, horrible concrete monstrosity in some random unfashionable suburb of North West London. Me, bitter?

Im in the happy catogory, frankely Im fed up to Wembley... if its the playoffs, its local, and the journey home after we choke in the final will be all the much shorter 1000% this, also not been to OT and getting sick of Wembley every other year

Hoping we wont need it but quite liking this as an option as I'm scheduled on nights on the Fri & Sat and couldn't have justified getting to London

Jake Robinson seems upset it's at man u Claims it's a good reason to avoid the play offs
Judging by his recent form, we'll certainly avoid the play offs ;-0

With play off's the chances of playing at Old Trafford are normally much more limited than Wembley now so would be good. ( And we'd have to win a cup game so no chance in reality) 28th May... my birthday! Could get messy if it happens... but lets think about top 3 and make sure!

Not happy. Wembley draws a larger crowd as its somewhere you will only ever play if you reach a final (FA cup semi final aside). We could play at OT in the FA or League Cup - its not a nice stadium and not as easy to get to (for me at least). I'm sure it will please a lot on here though as they'll be able to get to visit OT for the first time. Old Trafford not a nice stadium .gif[/img] What on earth is Anfield then? Old Trafford was the best choice and is the best and biggest club stadium in the country and it rightly won. We knew before hand that the play off final won't be at Wembley so I don't get your second sentance. As for the third it is the same with Liverpool or Villa. I can see us bringing a large following and winning if we get there.
FFS, what's Anfield got to do with anything? When are finals ever held at Anfield? The ground is too small, has restricted views and transport to the stadium is as Villa Park and OT not very good. Yes, everyone has known it would be at OT, I actually thought this was confirmed months ago rather than days. What dont you get? We have the possibility of playing at OT in two competitions each year (granted we need to win some cup matches first) We only get to play wembley by reaching a cup final. Wembley has excellent transport links whereas OT is a nightmare to get to - self explanitory really. Why will we win if its OT and not knowing the opposition? Great post.

I would think that most supporters along with each and every player would prefer the game to be played at Wembley. Makes perfect sense that, one is home to Manchester United whilst the other is the national stadium. No surprise that folk would favour the latter to the former. The only reason I’m pleased it’s not at Wembley is because I’m sick of going down there and seeing us lose. If we had got a result at some point in the past I’d think it a tad rum the FA have moved the game to accommodate the European Cup final…as it is, if we were to get there again, I’m happy to avoid the place…

im still confident that we will finish top 3.
however if we have to endure the lottery of play offs, i can be there in less than 10 mins.

Happy with Old Trafford if it comes down to it - we're unbeaten there in 125 years Frankly don't want the Wembley experience ever again - I'm sure even if you win it isn't that good, having spent most of the day around the slums of the surounding area and been totally ripped off inside and outside the stadium. Horrible place

Both times I've been to Wembley it's been a pain in the backside to get there by public transport & then you have to hang around in grim wasteland. For most town fans what would be difficult about getting to OT?

I'd say Wembley as our past experience would be vital. But then again, taking a look at our line up Daniels; Moss, Langmead, Coughlan, Ashton; Humphrey (Ashikodi, 90), Davies, Murray (Worrall , 74), McIntyre; Holt, Chadwick (Riza, 79). Subs: Garner, Cansdell-Sherriff. 2 survivers from the match day squad in less than 2 years.

For most town fans what would be difficult about getting to OT? How do you get to Wembley? Grim wasteland? The industrial estate OT is located in is just beautiful! I appreciate this thread will not get the champs league final moved and that regardless of where the game is played if Salop reach the finals I will be there. Just dissapointed at the choice, OT is a club ground and doesnt have the same significance as Wembley. Whilst we will never fill Wembley the fact we get there is an achievement and something the players will remember for ever. A 75k stadium will not be filled if we reach the final. Emirates I think would have been ideal or depending on the teams Villa Park. Of course the option of losing at wembley v winning at OT is a no brainer.

Quite frankly I'd be happier to go to OT than Wembley. I've been there 3 times with Salop and each time the trip home is more miserable than the last. I managed to blag some of the soft corporate seats last time and that was the only good thing about the whole day (OK being able to get a pint at half time was a nice bonus too ). At least OT is easily doable in a couple of hours and it would be a new ground for me. I would imagine that there would be more fans going to OT than Wembley too, as it's easier and nearer to get to. Any ideas on whether the prices for tickets, food, drink etc would be in the same bracket as Wembley?

Old Trafford an hour and 15 minutes by train. Train fare under £20 notes, cheaper beer, cheaper food. I reckon we would take more than we took to wembley the first time around. How many Man United fans would join the Shrewsbury Town quest if its at Old trafford? I reckon we would get 25k bare minimum if it was at old trafford maybe 30k. Heck if it was Shrewsbury Vs Port Vale in the final it would be another 60,000+ attendance.

My nearest league ground and, for once, I'm not away for the play off weekend. Are you sure? Obviously depends where in Altrincham you live but google Stockport you might be surprised I used to live in Timperley and Stockport was closer. I live in Timperley. 5.8 miles to Old Trafford, 9.1 to Edgeley Park from my house.

Shame it isn't at Emirates, best stadium in the country.
Still Old Trafford is easy to get to if we end up in the final and at least it isn't Wembley which is not a happy hunting ground.

With 2012 around the corner though, a few more might come out to support. It would be nice to see Town in League 1 again before the meteor/earthquake/alien invasion/virus/sun going out/nuclear holocaust.

For the same reasons as Stutty, I welcome this news should we get to the playoff final again.
Not so sure on the number who would follow us there though - looking back to the Conference play-off final at Stoke, we only took around 10,000 (?) - obviously the Brittania is not OT but does Wembley have more pull to the day tripper than the other two?

Although somewhere on the I did see an official Bristol Rovers following as 37, 200+ something. Ours was at least 23,500 as there was 61,589 at the game. With Old Trafford being on what I'd call right up there as a legendary venue as anywhere and that includes Wembley. With it being a lot closer, cheaper train fare, cheaper day out and easier to get to etc. I'd say most of the day trippers that will follow us maybe Man United fans (That live in Shropshire and Mid Wales) that have never been there of which there is a lot of them. I reckon if we played Gillingham this time we would then out number them. 30k to 20k instead.

For the same reasons as Stutty, I welcome this news should we get to the playoff final again... but does Wembley have more pull to the day tripper than the other two? Given that we've had two unsuccessful trips there in the recent past, I'm not sure that it does. The 'daytrippers' who don't ordinarily support Town but don't want to pass up the opportunity to visit Wembley, have presumably had - and taken - their chance now. Old Trafford is easily accessible by train and tram (get to Picadilly and then get the Altrincham tram) and you can drive there in well under two hours. Without wanting to seem unduly pessimistic the thought of travelling back from Manchester on the back of the wrong result is a bit more stomach-able than another interminable trek back from Wembley. onthetrain, unfortunately I don't think any United fans will join the Shrewsbury Town quest, other than those who already have a link to the town (ie, Shrewsbury exiles) Fingers, how is OT a club ground but Villa Park not? Can only presume you're on a wind up!

Can only presume you're on a wind up! Partly - the Villa Park v OT was simply for the attendance figures depending on who we drew if we got there. Although getting there is not easy either. I think its fair to assume that some United fans who cannot get to games may wish to experience the stadium - it's a long shot though. Obviously better for Salop based fans to get to OT but the surrounding area is worse than Wembley IMO. I state that as someone who lived there as well as someone who has been to approx 15 games at OT and 10 at New Wembley. OT does serve Budweiser though and thats a big thumbs up!
