Thought I would be first to ask (yeah I know we dont but thought I would ask anyway) impossible - he left when he was out of contract with us yeah i know but that doesnt stop people asking every time an ex player is sold whether we have one even if that player has moved 6 times since he was with us

always nice to read moaning Notts County fans for some reason Good luck to him, he's got the opportunity to test his ability at a higher level and you can't begrudge him that. Surely County weren't expecting Le Tissier-style loyalty from him?

I see kopthis aka primarypie1862 is quick to add his thoughts on the matter Shame he's too much of a coward to do the same on here. Death threats? What a lovely bunch of supporters they are We didn't do that when he left and can't seem to recall any death threats when any Shrewsbury players have moved on? How bitter some people can be. I think Notts could crumble and end up getting relegated without his quality set pieces and never ending assists.

Interesting to read the Notts fans reaction to his departure, I was very annoyed when he left to go to Notts just as Chester fans were when he left to join us, at the end of the day he's doing what all footballers do and thats looking after number one, I'm past the stage now of listening to players swearing 'blind loyalty' to their clubs and how much they love their clubs etc, the only thing players really love in football is their wage packet, and Ben Davies is no different.

I,ve got no interest in the Davies saga, he's a Notts County ex player, not one of ours. Savage was asked about the impending transfer, and he acknowledged he had good delivery on free kicks but overall i sensed he was not over impressed. Wish him well and can't blame any player attempting to play at the highest level they can. Would i want him back...NO.

I SAY IN BOLD LETTERS GOOD LUCK TO HIM AS I HEARD HIS MISS DIDN'T LIKE NOTTINGHAM!!!!! plus he was always a nice lad, reserved in person but still a nice lad who can make it high in footy even i think at a lower club in the premier league so best wishes from us

At the meeting with fanzine reps where we managed to get amber seats put in the new stadium, GP told us about how he signed Ben Davies.
Ben turned down 3 or 400 quid extra a week from League 1 teams (was it Walsall/Yeovil?) in order that he would come to us and 'become a better player'. GP promised him that he'd have plenty of time to earn his money later in his career.
Ben made a good decision in joining us, and certainly benefited us as a football club. The ignorant minority (many of whom of course wouldn't have him back today despite a Championship manager being prepared to outlay a decent six figure fee) are notorious by their absence on this subject.
Good luck Ben. Top man.

Those who would'nt want him back ( me for one) base their opinion on his ability, as we see it, not on some percieved notion of his greediness. Personally, well done BD, and good luck.....end of.

Pleased for Ben. He's 29 now, and this should set him up for life.

Good luck to him, although i am being fairly hypocritical as i booed him to high hell on both occasions were we played Notts County last season.

An excellent move for him. Like Wright, a midfielder who scores plenty of goals and would be an asset in most League One or League Two sides. Good luck Ben!

so its now official Ben Davies signs for Derby, he has got one tasty debut on saturday against the notts neighbours...... If he didn't know before he certainly does now - there is really only one team in Notts, and it isn't the one he has just left Wonder why moneybags Notts are cashing in - surely if they are heading towards the Championship (and onto the Premier) £500k should be turned down to keep there better players

he most unloyal player always s**ts on his own club in the end It's normal for players to move on, and preferably upwards in league status and pay, so good luck to the guy. Wish I was on his pay!

Could be a great move for Davies and I hope it goes well. I imagine many Derby fans will be feeling puzzled and a little underwhelmed that they've signed a 29 year old who's played his whole career in the lower leagues. Not what you'd expect for a club with Premier League aspirations and dead ball expertise alone won't take him far. Has he got the all round game to succeed at that level? I hope so, good luck to him.

The big difference here is that he asked for a move. On previous occasions he has seen out his contract.

Ben Davies is a decent lad and a decent player at this level and the one above. I really hope he makes it at Derby because he has had to work hard to get to where he is in his career.
I bet there isn't many on here (or anywhere else) who would turn down an increase in pay and status. Therefore any allegations of disloyalty aimed at Davies are probably hypocritical and short sighted. The time of one club players is long gone.
Anyway good luck Ben I, for one, will watch wth interest.

From the Notts board:-
Ben Davies to the Notts media:- "It was the hardest decision I've had to make. It was hard..really difficult."
Ben Davies to the Derby media:- "I didn't need much convincing to come here..it really wasn't a difficult decision to make."
Chester fans might recall a similar scenario when he joined us.

he most unloyal player always s**ts on his own club in the end What??? Where has he been unloyal?? If he fufills his contract and leaves? Or if he hands in a transfer request, leaves whilst in contract and the club gets money for him? Which is it? Or do you just expect players to sign for one club forever until the club tries to get rid of them?? I.e. the clubs being unloyal to them. As it was, our club totally and utterly mucked up by knowing he would be out of contract, the offering him a new contract and before he'd had chance to sign, withdrawing it, and then re-offering him another deal 5 months later. Hardly 'loyal' of us, and ultimately has cost us.
