Haven't seen Mason for a few years but he must have grown about 2 foot taller in the meantime, I see he's already 6ft2 at 16! Dunno where he gets it as Springy (Ian) must only be 5ft10 ish, big fella though.

Manchester City scout came to watch him play for the Youth team on Saturday against Bury only to find he had already signed for Everton!

If a club came in with a bid around £250k for Bradshaw i'd be very tempted to take it with add ons as again there is no guarantee. For every Joe Hart/Dave Edwards there are more Karl Murray's and Jamie Tolley's. Not sure you chose the best 2 examples with Tolley and Murray but I know what you mean. The remit of the youth system is to produce players for the first team and as Tolley and Murray made combined appearances of over 250 matches, then surely they were successes (In fact you cant blame the youth system for the club missing out on substantial bids for Tolley in his pre highlights days). Any other benefits to the club from a home grown player is a bonus and obviously the Joe Hart story is just amazing for everyone involved in his development. And this story, which seems to have come from nowhere, is excellent news also. So ignoring Bradshaw and Duyan (who perhaps have been grown elsewhere) this season alone we have seen: Substantial Man City appearance money for Joe Hart. Substantial England appearance money for Joe Hart. Steve Leslie's 50th full first team appearance. Jon Taylor's astounding full first team appearance. Goldson's first team debut from the sub's bench and now Springthorpe. The youth system is certainly paying it's way

A club like ours should cash in when they can as long as they aren't being ripped off and from what i have heard we haven't been here should the young lad go on to big things.

Difficult one this - would Hart have gone on to what he has without his time inbetween the sticks for us in the league? Perhaps so, perhaps not.

I am not sure of the timings but I am sure it was long after they broke into our first team. We a had a significant bid from Cardiff for Tolley and Murray went on trial at a higher club (cant remember which one now).

My memory of this is that Murray had a stormer at Bramall Lane in a League Cup game after which the Blades made an offer which was rejected. I was at the game and can honestly say that Murray never played as well again.

Just a thought - £125.000 for a 16 year old is very good business for the club. How many other players have we sold for that figure or more - ever Hart, Edwards, Walton. After that I'm struggling but there can't be many.

As a few posters have said, I have played against worse keepers on the local football circuit than his dad ... he had ability, although evidently not quite as much as his son does!

I was right then, not many especially when you consider just how many players we have got through in the last 20-25 years. So a 16 year old kid who has never been near the 1st team is in the top 10 of our players sold - thats amazing really.

120,000 + 20,000 if he makes Evertons first team , 500,000 if he makes England plus some other sort of sell on clause . Time to use this money to improve the CoE training facilities at the Meadow ?

Ian was a decent keeper and likeable bloke and he has obviously groomed his lad into a decent keeper too.... good luck to them!

£120,000 is a fair bit of money for a team at our level, especially for a 16 year old who's never played. Could end up being a good deal, even if the guy looks special at the moment there's no guarentee he'll make it in the long run. Mason Springthorpe has signed for Whitchurch Alport. I hope the move works out well for him.

Hope I get chance to see him there - enjoyed my visit to Alport a while back. You might not have to wait long !! There is a friendly pencilled in for next Wednesday the 21st at Alport. It was advertised as one of the friendlies on Alports Facebook and Twitter pages a while ago and I haven't seen anything about it being called off although it quite often is. It would be wise to check these sites out after Saturdays friendly against Flint as they are concentrating on that game. They have been working hard at Yockings park and it looks a great ground for the level they play at. I was up there for their open day a couple of weeks ago and it is a great credit to everyone up there who work very hard. There is a new stand behind one goal, a revamped clubhouse and bar, new turnstiles and the pitch looks perfect. Good beer and usually food available and there is always a good atmosphere. Anyone who's missing live footy might just a few hours up there. It may well not feature many town regulars but maybe the regulars of the future. The other friendlies are £4 for adults and £2 for concessions. If you go and don't enjoy it you can blame me, but I think I'll be ok.

I think its money out the window that one, we won't get 1.5 million for him though will we. it would have been better us bringing him through like Joe Hart and making some money out of him. Sell on fees included?
