The thought of this game being off after the horrors of being trapped in the house like a caged animal on Xmas day is just too awful to contemplate. It's no coincidence that Boxing Day crowds are the highest of the season!
I'll assume the covers are on..but what are the prospects?

Far too early at this stage to judge the chances of it being off/on, but the one reason I love Boxing Day games is that it gives me a reason to get OUT of the house

Thee are some VERY cold night temperatures forcase for a few nights time - think the covers can only help so much with frosts.

Annoys me so what if pitch is frozen let the game go ahead. If it was 35 degrees the ground w would be just as hard yet no talk of calling it off

Well if they spent less time eating mince pies The covers were put down Thursday evening, just after the mince pie eating marathon No frost covers will keep -19C out of the ground. The serving grace could be the 4ins of snow on top of the covers The weather appears to be getting milder towards the end of the week with daytime highs of freezing point So if the pitch is frost free its just a case of getting the snow off the pitch, removing the covers and giving the pitch a roll. The spanner in the works could be the car park, surrounds and frozen pipes etc.

Yes. I think the problem could be the car park and surrounds too.
Yet I can remember watching matches at the Meadow with snow everywhere including the pitch. One match in particular (can't remember who we were playing but I think it was a friday evening game against some southern side) was absolutely horrendous..yet they still played despite hardly a blade of grass being visible.
And nowadays the Health and Safety brigade worry about the car park!

Reckon that game was against Colchester during our 78/79 promotion winning season (9 Jan 1979 - won 2-0). Was there - horrible night - though the victory was nice!!

Blackpool New Years Day? We lost 3-1. Think he was talking about Colchester in our promo season. Still amazed about that Blackpool game - moved heaven and earth to be the only lower league game to go ahead on a snowy pitch. This despite being a team who at the time liked to play a passing game. What happens, the conditions are totally against the way we played and couldn't adapt. Might well have got something had it been played on a normal pitch.

Are you gonna end up working Christmas Day Andy? Might do Will town be planning bringing in the pitch warming company whatever thru are called ? They have done in the past for a boxing day I hope not. Christmas Eve last year, the longest day of my life. Guiding a Glaswegian named Irving who was harder to understand than Rab C. Nesbit to Walsall to pick up fuel burners while Santa Claus was a Scotsman blared out in his lorry cab is not my idea of the festive season.

Remember playing (and narrowly losing to) Chelsea in the FA Cup at the Meadow when the pitch was covered with snow. Used an orange ball and painted the lines pink! Near froze to death on the Wakeman end and my numb feet hurt like hell as they thawed out when I got home.

Difference between rock hard in the summer and rock hard in the winter is how slippery it is. In the summer you can wear moulded boots or astroturf trainers and have safe footing. In the winter you slip about all over the place making it dangerous hence games getting called off. The other thing that can happen in the winter is the pitch isn't as hard all over meaning different footwear works in different places.

H&S should be easy to get around, just point out to them it's to dangerous to leave the house and they will not go any where near the ground.

How much does undersoil heating cost? Manchester City had it installed on a training pitch this summer (the 3rd one to have undersoil heating) at Carrington. It cost £1.8 million. It costs £300 an hour to run. So if we had switched it on last Thursday as the bad weather came in and left it on till Boxing Day (the day of the Bury game) that would cost £72,000 just to run. It does not even ensure the game goes ahead, re Arsenal, Liverpool last weekend.

Referee for Bury game - S.J. Rushton.
Linesmen - N. Radford and S.J BRATT!!!!!
Oh no! Not again. His 2nd visit to the Meadow this season. Total incompetence 1st time round...and as for the last time he actually refereed here..goes into my all time top 6 worst refereeing performances in the last 50 years of watching Town. Was demoted to Assistants List on the strength of a number of such performances which are well documented on the internet.

Massive work for the town staff to get this one on, but with the expected crowd and the game being one of our biggest so far, I reckon we could see this one on, even of conditions are like those at the ipswish match on Saturday!

Yeah, right by the ground now, very heavy snow falling and with temperatures not rising above freezing it will be amazing if they manage to get this one on.
