A worthy winner.
Not sure why this hasn't been a good year for British sport? What's that based on Dave? The athletes put a strong performance in at the Europeans, the golfers were on top of the world all year long, the cricketers had a very consistent year, we've got the World Heavyweight Champion and a couple of other champions (Khan and Froch) who have become seriously world class, Hamilton and Button continued to compete at the very top, Andy Murray remained in the Top 5 all year long, Cavendish was sensational in the Tour de France, and there was lots more. We can judge British sport on more than just a decent haul at the Olympics.
Like the other posters said, you appear to have been far too busy actually doing some real life stuff to be any use in a sports round at a quiz any longer :-)

AP McCoy was probably the best choice overall. (oh and I've won a few quid over the years thanks to him as well) Yes and I've lost a few quid, young Matty. Down at Ludlow, he was on the fav who was struggling, and pecked two from home, he was on a loser, I was on a winner, the git picked his mount up and got up on the line..... O.K.......he did fairly well.

Paul Scholes, the man who this year refused to play for England in the WORLD CUP! As opposed to the rest of them that went with the England squad and didn't bother turning up

No argument about the choice of McCoy, but Montgomery as coach? He was CAPTAIN and in his acceptance speech went on to thank his coaches!!!!!

Must say I find TBH's statement strange. As Welshie pointed out it's been a good year. The problem is a lot of sports aren't covered in the mainstream media. A good example. www.worldsquash.org/Well done Nick Matthew. Must say I was hoping Amy Williams would win. As her coach remarked in the press this week; her achievement is like an Austrian scoring a ton at Lords. All with a injured back to.

A visit to the troops in Afghanistan, cosying up with Cameron and Prince William during the failed England World Cup Bid, photo shoot with the Chilean miners and now a lifetime achievement award..at 35!!
Mr Beckham is leaving nothing to chance with regard to receiving his knighthood. Eat your heart out Bruce Forsyth!

For a footballer who hasnt a left foot, cant head a ball, has bugger all pace and no trick he's done very well. A Hollywood haircut who in mentioning Simon Fuller in his speach sums him totally up Its not just his football achievements he should be recognised for though, he has worked his arse off as a 'ambassador' for the London Olympic bid, the doomed WC 2018 bid and for English football in general, travelling to Trinidad to coach the local kids there just to appease that greedy corrupt twit Jack Warner is evidence enough of that, I hope the FA give him a full time job in some sort of ambassadorial role if and when he finally decides to return home from the US as no one represents English football better than he does, he's a credit to the game i agree with that 100%

Beckham winning a LIFETIME achievement award, ridiculous. I'm not a big fan, but he gave his all for Club AND country every time he played, so fair play to him. I would prefer him to receive an award much later on in life, when he retires from the sport and can look back on his lifetime achievements. Its like giving Rooney an award from HELP THE AGED.
