Unbelievable.
Any last vestiges of goodwill that NUFC had are now gone.
A complete joke of a club.

Crazy
Ok they lost yesterday, but it was away, and they were without their first choice centre back pairing (both suspended), Nolan and Barton.
Only a few weeks ago they smashed their local rivals!

Shame.
When the Geordies got relegated I thought they were going to do a 'Leeds' given their off field turmoil, they should be grateful just to be back in the Premier League, terrible, terrible decision and I can see why SJP hardly ever fills up these days when idiots like Ashley are in charge.

Problem is this Ashley bloke really (truly) believes Newcastle are a top 4 club and yet he wont invest serious money.. Good luck to Hughton, he will almost certainly get good offers in the game. They could alway get Denis Wise in

Not a bad record...
Hughton leaves the club with an overall record of 39 wins, 14 defeats and 17 draws in all competitions.

The club finally has some stability and they go and do that. Talk about shooting yourself in the foot!
Martin O'neil to take over perhaps?

Just madness. He has done a tremendous job, turned a club on the verge of imploding into a middling prem side in under a season and a half.
I'm sure Ashley is looking for a more 'experienced' manager, but this guy knows the club and the players inside out - exactly what they needed a year ago, and he's proved that.
Stupid stupid decision.
and as someone pointed out somewhere, if losing to west brom means you lose your job, moyes and wenger are in trouble.

I think you mean "midfield" but anyway agree with you entirely. They were away, without arguably their two best players. Houghton has done a magnificent job and yet gets kicked out for? ? The decision can only be described as BLATTERESQUE.

We may be overlooking the real rivalry here. City or Newcastle - which is the biggest joke? A bold move by Ashley to reclaim the title.

Step in Martin O'Neil.
Joke decision to sack him by a fat bloke which has no brains whatsoever. This season they thrashed Sunderland 5-1, beat Aston Villa 6-0, held Chelsea to a 1-1 draw. Away from home they have also got some good results like beating Arsenal and Everton and are 11th in the league. If you have just got promoted then surely 11th in December represents that he is most certainly not doing a bad job. Liverpool's expectations are higher, but yet they are below them in the table. Also Everton and Aston Villa but they don't go sacking Houllier and Moyes.
Since beating Arsenal away, they have had some poor results (All results since then):
10/10/2010 Newcastle 1-2 Blackburn 13/10/2010 Newcastle 0-0 Fulham 20/10/2010 Bolton 5-1 Newcasle 28/10/2010 Newcastle 1-1 Chelsea 05/12/2010 West Brom 3-1 Newcastle
Would this set of results result to a fair sacking? I personally don't think so, even though there are some poor results there.
Latest odds on new Newcastle manager Alan Pardew (8-11) Martin O'Neil (5-1) Alan Curbishley (10-1) Peter Beardsley (20-1)

interesting, an hour ago i thought ashley was being a prick, but if i had to choose between jol or hughton i would take jol. but a bit of loyalty is the very least CH deserves, so at best this is a very cold hearted decision that wont win ashley any goodwill from anywhere. is there something in the water up there that makes chairmen act like inhuman w****rs?

Jol has lost the plot a bit at Ajax this season. He responded to a lack of funds by bringing in dross like Tainio and Mido who are no better than some of the players coming out of the academy. His dry humour and grumpy tones are also popular with us Brits, but the Ajacied find him a bit too unsophisticated. A shame as they played some great stuff the second half of last season. Ashley seems to have a shot gun permanently aimed at his foot. And he's a good aim. Not a nice man.

They must like being the laughing stock of english football.
****ing shocking decision. They seem on course for a good solid mid-table finish which is imo punching above there weight considering most thought they'd be heading straight back down.
What the hell does Ashley expect? Top 4?
The fans are outraged and rightfully so. Ashley has ****ed them over once more.

If it is jol, then its yet another Totenham connection, but my pref' would be o'neil if he would come. The trouble with the club is their are 2 Newcastle Uniteds, that is the Board and the Fans.
Always been the same up there. C. H. was always on Ashleys hit list, just waiting for the moment, would have put him favourite for the sack at the end of last season. I'm certain this coach turned manager has a big future in the game, more fool Toon. And ofcourse there will be someone who has already met Ashley at the motorway services weeks ago I expect..

Even if Ashley does get a better manager in, it's going to be hard for the new man as CH had a solid group of players who seemed to back the manager. He gave them the mentality of it's us against the world when they went down and thats been carried on this season.
Newcastle were doing well in the league despite a few bad results and definitely has the squad to stay up and build upon. It was beginning to look like a new era for newcastle.......

I really cannot see MON taking the job. Wasn't one of the main reasons for him leaving villa the transfer funds and that he can't progress the team further without the necessary funds? Newcastle have a broke twit of an owner who seems to expect CL football with a team many thought would be heading straight back down.

Newcastle are looking to appoint their new manager before the weekend. Link------> BBC Sport I'd say it's nailed on to be Jol now.
