The voting details coming out are a little odd. Netherlands bid got 4 votes in the first round, but then in round 2 they only got 2 votes, with 2 voters switching from Netherlands to Russia - that's surely a little odd? They probably promised to vote for them in the first round, after which they had a free vote.

Just heard that my previous plan of not recognising Qatar exists will not work. I just hope that our failure was not due to the poor access to Jennys.....

our football association is called THE football association, everyone else mentions whose it is. That is because when it was founded it was The Football Association. Every other one afterwards has to distinguish itself. That is a product of history, not arrogance.

One thing it has done is to expose the woeful level of punditry from buffoons like former FA spin doctor David Davies. On 5 Live this morning, I distinctly heard him say there was no doubt among the delegates in Zurich that the "momentum" was with England.

Don't think we should be reminded of that tenure if we can help it.

What Putin wants, Putin gets. I thought it strange that he didn't go to the presentation.
Qatar, crikey. Words fail me; so wrong on many levels.
Personally I thought our "ambassadors" were the wrong type. An old Etonian toff, Royalty and an RAF pilot were never going to sway it in our favour.

Technically, the English bid was superb.
Forget 'arrogance'. The country that gave the world football, has a professional set-up unmatched by anyone bar perhaps Brazil, has its second division that gets 4,000 more fans a game turning up than do for the top league in Russia (with 8 more teams as well!), is set up perfectly to deliver a football tournament and has so much more besides, should be able to host a World Cup every 50 years.
The choice of Russia is a poor one. The choice of Qatar a disgraceful one.
I can though confirm that Wales have decided not to qualify for 2018 as a show of solidarity with our neighbours :-)

One this voting pattern it should not be to long before the Isle of Man gets a world cup.
Seems like we have a better chance of winning the "So-called Eurovision Song Contest" than staging a future world cup.

How England came fourth, I have no idea. I had a feeling, at about 2pm, that it would be Russia or England so expected them to be the top two. The fact is that England would put on a fantastic tournament. As a country, the United Kingdom are fantastic at organising events. We'll see that in a year and a half, when the Olympics come to London.
I think this will be Blatter's World Cup bidding period as leader of FIFA. Shocking decision by the executives to have the 2022 tournament in Qatar. I was absolutely certain that one would go the USA.
Surely it's about time that the FA, and several other countries, formed a break-away union? Yet another bad day for World football. England deserve to host the World Cup. Germany beat them to it in 2006, and Russia have beaten them to it today, surely next time it will be successful?
Maybe even they should make a joint bid? England/Wales or England/Scotland. The presentation today, though, by England was top notch. Thought it was very clever to bring in this Eddie, alongside great speeches by David Cameron, David Beckham and Prince William.

(They apparantly don't like double bids). Besides, it'll be a while before we even have to think about bidding for the next one, even if we want to. And yes, the presentation was brilliant, shame it was wasted.

Losing to Russia is a shame, and probably just about undeserved, but Qatar hosting the 2022 event is just a complete and utter shambles.

Well well well farmhands. I bet the FIFA voting has ruffled a few donkey-jacket collars down there in Muller Rice land? . On 5 Live this lunchtime some hole said 'They've never voted for Russia and never will vote for Russia because no-one wants to go there...."

A step back a World Cup in Russia will be no bad thing. But what I do find strange is that Russia win the bid on a day when it is revealed that it is 'akin to a mafia state' and 'must have ordered the killing on citizens on foreign soil'. Surely the time is not right for them.
Also how England can get 2 votes despite greasing up Warner and his cronies needs some looking into. It was perhapsy the biggest kick in the teeth we've ever had from a global organisation like FIFA.
Qatar is the bizarrest thing of all though. A bid ranked as 'high risk' in a country half the size of Wales with massive building to do, an economy that is totally reliant on the continued value of one commodity (oil), with no football history, a dubious attitude to human rights (homosexuality anyone?), and little democracy. Bring it on
You can hardly say expanding the world of football. Surely that could be applied to any of the other bids (although maybe Japan and Korea was too soon again).
IMO FIFA have let the genie out of the bottle. The double bidding process will surely be shown to be one last pay day for a seriously corrupt organisation.

Is anyone really surprised at the result. Why did Putin not put in an appearance? Why should he, he already knew they had won! So, one of the most corrupt countries in the world gets to host a major sporting event. Hooliganism and racism is inherent in a country where the Mafia is king. Qatar, well, what can one say. A country so hot in the months when the competition will be held that most residents **** off and live elsewhere. Where the heat generated by the air conditioning units actually raise the outside temperature. We were never going to hold this competition , and never will as long as Blatter is in control, because, quite simply Blatter, Warner and even that French rat faced little t**t Platini, do not like us. I can only hope that the B.B.C and maybe other organisations, continue with their investigations into F.I.F.A. I await the outcome with baited breath.

Hopefully Cameron has put a call in to MI6 to do their best. Maybe Obama can lend them Lester Freamon and he can follow the money. Would love to hear a Shiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeeeeeeeet from Blatter.

The fact Al Jazeera announces Qatar had won the 2022 World cup bid a HOUR before the actual announcement from Blatter is just disgusting. Apparently even the FIFA executive committee who voted for the nations weren't suppost to know, yet there was a leak ??
Corruption is a cancer in football and FIFA needs to be sorted out before they become a even bigger joke than they are now.

**** me boys, which nation did you want to get the 2022 Cup? USA? Japan? They've both hosted it far too recently to be going for it again. Australia? Brilliant. You say Qatar has no footballing pedigree, Australia are almost as bad! The A-League? Give me a break...
Qatar are going to build a whole new rail and metro network so fans can get between venues easily, they're going to make all stadia air conditioned, and they're going to donate all stadia to poorer nations after the World Cup. Why the hell shouldn't they get it?
Seems like no matter who FIFA picked us little Englanders would have moaned after being overlooked for 2018
