The reason why there's not any trouble at rugby or basketball games is because it's a high scoring points game. In football sometimes you only get that one chance to celebrate and if it's against our rivals rub there nose in it so to speak. Football is a very passionate game where you may only have one or two chances to release that passion unlike rugby or basketball where there can be points scored every few minutes.

Sorry, but the reasons are much more complex than that. This "essay" seems to explain it much better than ever I could. www.regentessays.com/samples/psychology/psychology-football.htmlIncidentally, while I was looking into this, I also found this link which mentions an hotel in Shrewsbury, overlooking our (old?)ground, that closed its curtains during matches. Is there a restaurant in the old RSI because I can't imagine where else she can be referring to? www.sportingo.com/rugby/a3424_gentlemen-hooligans-alcohol-why-rugby

What about rushing to the front of the stand when a goal is scored and the player/team run across? We all know the sort of reaction that might have with other supporters given one of our own at Crewe the other week had to endure.
Don't see the problem with running to the front and giving a wee bit of stick to the opposition. Nine times out of ten at the end of the game the fans will cross and nothing will get said.

The one time is always likely to be Hereford and/or Port Vale where the tension is there before anyone even gets to the ground. If there is going to be any trouble at these games mentioned I think it'd be naive to think it will be soley down to fans goading each other. Town and Hereford has been a derby match for years and I refuse to believe one minute that the Hereford fans kicked off because a few people in Block 19 ran down the stairs after Wright's goal. Look back at Danny's post about Accrington - I'm sure no self respecting STFC supporter would goad them for no apparent reason. I've never been to the Meadow so I don't know how close they are or whatever but like I say, goading and winding up the opposition happens when we're playing rivals.

The likely hood of trouble between two sets of fans is mainly based on the recent rivalry between the two sets of fans.
For example, we take a thousand fans to Burton and Maccelsfield and not a sign of trouble yet if we take that number to Vale,Hereford and Wrexham trouble is significantly more likely.
But it`s just not our local teams where this is applicable, if we play Mansfield,Northampton,Exeter to name but three the likely hood of trouble is greatly increased, due directly to the recent confrontations between the two sets of fans.
Hereford has never been regarded as a major game associated with trouble, nor for that matter was Vale until recently, so now a rivalry has developed and will continue to do so.

Add to that there is never any significant trouble at Crewe either.

I feel embarrassed for those fans in bloke 19 who run to the front only to retreat back up the steps when they bottle it at the thought of getting to the other fans. Think they're big and hard when the just look like knobs.
'We'll see you all outside' - Yeah you will, but you'll do **** all about it.
'There's only one way out' - No there isn't, and if there was, you wouldn't say anything.
'You're going home in a Shropshire ambulance' - No they won't, they'll go home laughing in their car about how pathetic Shrewsbury fans are.
'You always run' - Yes you do as you retreat back up the steps of block 19.
I'm embarassed to be associated with these supporter. Banter and the odd funny song is ok, but s**t like that needs to stop. It's pathetic.

The threatening and posturing behaviour we saw on Tuesday is familiar to watchers of natural history documentaries.
As David Attenborough often demonstrates, male animals are territorial and their threat displays rarely develop into serious violence.
What we saw are people who are not fully evolved and cannot control their animal insticts.

It is probably the Soverign Lounge curtains that are referring to which i understand have to be closed pre match and during the game.

I ate there prior to the Aldershot game and the blinds were drawn.
