Well, things went to plan nicely with the first over Overall, a poor day, Cook battled well, Bell looked in great touch but ran out of support What a day for Peter Siddle though, a birthday hat-trick! England need early wickets tomorrow now in order to stay in the first test

Anyone manage to stay up for any of the action? I caught the first hour, that were 2am for me and plenty. I think it'll be early to bed this evening so I can get up early for the evening session tomorrow...catching the first session is a right pain in the arris but it does mean I get more of the game in the morning... Defo Australia's day but still early doors. Still confident in England...

Woke up about half 5 this morning, settled down in front of the TV, 180-odd for 4, thought, it could be better, could be worse, then along came Peter Siddle. Great moment though.

Great day for Siddle who has always struck me as a real combatitive cricketer. What a way to celebrate his birthday, he has certainly swung the match the Aussies way. Lets hope Broad and Anderson pitch it up if it is swinging again tomorrow.

For me of course there is the added spice of the other 'arf being Ozzie.
I watched the first hour and a half, tragedy striking with the third ball of the day as Strauss went for a duck.
I then woke up at 5am so put it back on. We had recovered from 55-2 when I switched off to 172-4. They were just coming out after tea. Things were moving along nicely, if slowly with Cooke and Bell both looking comfortable.
Then along came Siddell and only the second player ever to snare a hat-trick in the Ashes (Shane Warne the other) as he dismissed first Cook, then Prior and finally Broad with fantastic consecutive deliveries.
I watched England crawl beyond 200 then switched off again as my eyelids began to drop heavy once more.

England will win the series 3-1, with the penultimate test being a draw.

Ian Bell proved that he needs to be batting much higher in the order

Poor start but not the worst, its still a total to build on in a second innings as long as our bowling performs. Typical England like this though, all the hype and a drab start. There was me thinking it was just the footballers.

Anderson and co need to come out fired up, impressed by the aussies considering they were a team in turmoil! Siddle and Hilfenhous seem to have massive hearts and would bowl all day for the baggy green. Any way there's a new day to win today, session by session, ball by ball.

Similiar to others. Watched the first hour and a half or so. Dozed through last bit on the radio. Not a great start really, heard bowlers getting nothing out of the ball which is a concern. Only seen the Siddle wickets on highlights, but looks like he really pitched it up, hope the England bowlers learn from that. Some highlights though, nice to see Cook, and especially Bell seemingly play well. Look forward to tonight

Just walked into work on Tuesday morning, already got a gob full. One good session won't win them the ashes but what a spell of bowling from Siddle. Lets see how England do with the ball, then we'll see how good or bad England's batting was.

Great start to the afternoon session. Got the radio on at work, can't wait to see Finn's catch on the highlights.

The new ball is going to be crucial, need two wickets in the first 10 overs today.
Hussey did play well though, credit where credit's due

Well, well, well...I didn't expect that!! Superb stuff. Can't smile wide enough this morning!! Just great to see the Aussies toiling in the field. Dropping catches, shoulders dropped, wry smiles...all too familiar to England fans. Plenty of overs still to go tomorrow but evenso; great encouragement for the series, shows that we are up to it, shows we can take it to them in their own backyard...

Typically this was the first days play I havent watched!
Anyway, probably highlights the difference between the current Aussie side and past teams. They clearly have some talented players and are nowhere near as bad as some people made them out to be, but after we were bowled out for a relatively low score, the past Aussie teams would have know that it was game over for us after day one. They would have batted into a big lead (like the current team did) but then would have skittled us out in the second innings, regardless of how the pitch was playing.
The Aussies dont quite have the aura they once had, but I still expect it to be a very difficult series as I think both teams are quite evenly matched.

havent been able to watch last few days but listened to some. Great stuff.
On another note, it seems Bumble(David Lloyd) has been sacked from Sky after some comments on Twitter. No official statements or anything yet, but seems like something has happened.

No official statements or anything yet, but seems like something has happened. From twitter.com/vaughancricket"I can't tell you all about @bumblecricket. It's not good but I am sure he will speak shortly...just give him sometime please" "No health worries with @bumblecricket ... He is speaking to his legal team at the moment..."

indeed. Would have presumed it was a silly rumour unless i had read those earlier, but we will see in a few hours i guess. Seems one or two people had been slagging him off and he made some unsavoury comments to them.
