I don't really think we should take offence at this mate. The poppy issue has created feelings of discontent elsewhere.
Celtic fans boycott and then our PM and saviours in China upset the Chinese as the poppy represents the Opium Wars to them.
Wear it with pride if you wih but dont expect it to be a hallowed symbol everywhere.

Think the story refers to a group of 35 Muslim protestors who burned a poppy at 11am in protest at the uk forces involvement in Afghanistan and Iraq. The EDL were also in attendance along with a Daily Mail journalist, who all just happened to be passing at the time
Now I'm being a tad cynical here but maybe there was a slight element of creating a story to be offended by here.
As the old saying goes I totally disagree with what they were saying, but totally defend their right to say it.

As the clock struck 11am, the Islamic protesters burned a model of a poppy and chanted ‘British soldiers burn in hell’.
What I find particularly sad is that it seems as if we're almost becomed used to this type of protest - it no longer really shocks people, I shudder to think what people who fought in WW2 make of things like this.

If other countries take offence then thats purely up to them, if people choose not to wear them than that up to them. But the sight of it being burnt (considering what it represents) on a British street is disgusting to me As for Celtic, the plastic paddies who join in with their anti poppy campaign do so because they associate it with the British Army and the Irish troubles. I personally associate it with the Two World Wars and if they did, they might remember the thousands of Scots & Irishman who died during these times

Perhaps a call to the local police might be a more reasoned response to shooting them...: Harassment, alarm or distress is a statutory offence in England and Wales. The offence is created by section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986: "(1) A person is guilty of an offence if he: (a) uses threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, or disorderly behaviour, or (b) displays any writing, sign or other visible representation which is threatening, abusive or insulting, within the hearing or sight of a person likely to be caused harassment, alarm or distress thereby." This offence has the following statutory defences: (a) The defendant had no reason to believe that there was any person within hearing or sight who was likely to be alarmed or distressed by his action. (b) The defendant was in a dwelling and had no reason to believe that his behaviour would be seen or heard by any person outside any dwelling. (c) The conduct was reasonable.

Personally I think that these particular muslims should be sent back to wherever they originate from (and I don't mean Telford!) as they cannot be happy living here. I hope that the many decent muslims in this country will condemn this behavior too. It is provocative so they should expect a reaction.

Well I see the Muslim protesters are getting just the reaction they wanted.
Right to free speech is a vital part of British society and however offensive, nasty and insensitive burning a poppy is suggesting people who don't agree with the war in afghan and Iraq and protest should be shot seems a tad repressive and against freedom of speech.
In another story a chap has been fined £3000 for making a joke on twitter about blowing up an airport - based on anti terror legislation so free speech is being eroded and what is written on websites is being monitored. Strange times in the uk

A handful of extremist nutters. You give them the oxygen of publicity and they love it. Ignore the feckers. You do have to wonder why the they don't clear off to a country more in tune with their beliefs though.

I'd happily pay a bit more tax so that these people could be arrested, their british citizenship revoked and deported to a muslim country of their choice.

Well, behind my crass comment was the feeling that we have become so liberal that we (as a society) will protect 'minorities' to such an extent that common sense no longer counts for anything. I wore my poppy with pride today.

Shows how one group of people can stereo type a whole race.
Start typing 'muslim' into Google now and it already answers 'muslims burning poppys'.

Hitler would never have stood for that! Mind you Hitler wouldn't have let them immigrate either.
Although it's seems wrong, those who fought sacrificed their lives so others can do exactly this without fear of reprisal. I'm glad they can do this without being deported or thrown into concentration camps. I just find it incredibly insensitive and disrespectful. Without the sacrifices being remembered this week, this bunch wouldn't even be in the country, let alone allowed to demonstrate in this manner.
They're obviously cowards anyway, hiding their faces. They can't be that proud of what they're doing.

The muslim extremists weren't in the wrong. At least there's some passion shown in this protest.
Its interesting to see how fickle and racist people are on this bored. You can't associate this as a 'muslim' act as it was only a tiny minority standing up for something they believe in and there is no proof that this was a nationally supported by muslims.
People throwing round 'WWII veterans were fighting so that 'we' could live happy/free lives'. It was actually to bring down a tirrany.

Unfortunately this is just about a few exremists, trying to get their 15-minutes of fame. I won't tar all Muslim's with the same brush because of it.
It's like the Christian fella and his congregation in the US threatening to burn Koran's on 9-11. I won't classify all Cristian's as nutter's because of it.

It was a deplorable act by Muslim extremist and any member of the Mosque where they attend should see that they are punished in some form. In that way a lot of Non Muslims would see that the true peacefull Muslims are doing they're bit to stamp out this sort of behaviour.

It's like the Christian fella and his congregation in the US threatening to burn Koran's on 9-11. I won't classify all Cristian's as nutter's because of it. Exactly. the media are whipping this up and causing the problem, in some way. Sure, it was utterly disrespectful. So was that fat white women peeing on a war memorial. Or that white student peeing on a war memorial. Are all white students "Scum" who should be deported? Or fat white women from Blackpool should be "sent back home"? I hate it when the news reader says "and now for some reaction from the Church we are going to ask" and you're thinking, it isn't is it, not again, surely? Not "Christian Voice"? The Evangelical Alliance has over 1,000,000 (yes million) people in its member churches in the United Kingdom, yet the media go and ask an organisation whose membership is tiny. Suddenly "Westboro" Church is world famous. One nutcase bloke and his extended family in the middle of nowhere is allowed to whip up an international storm. Have you ever wondered why these really controversial "Churches" have a membership of about 50 and all seem to be related? But then in this case: frankly, with the EDL and the BNP sniffing around the subject I actually think letting stuff like this happen is utterly self defeating. It just means more angry white british NEETs get stirred up and hooked into far right groups. And I definitely agree with Bilbo. We need a statement from the Muslim Council of Britain deploring this action.

Am i the only one who opened this thread expecting to see something about burning a young dog ?
We seem to have gone a bit overboard on this in recent years
It is great to remember the fallen and the money raised goes to a very good cause, but it seems to have become compulsory recently - has anyone appeared on tv in the last month without one ?
These actions are unpleasant, but are by a very small minority.
I don't agree with the Celtic fans banner, but I don't think it a reason to ban them from future games - there should still be freedom of expression
