just out of interest, what with me having broken the story an' all, did STFC ever have anything to say about this ? curious as to whether they're sticking by the original "top designer" line, or just keeping quiet about the whole thing in the hope that you'll all just pay through the nose for merchandise sporting a bit of ripped-off old tat

He has a point though. I expect the club have covered their back as regards the rights to use the lion, but it is still a bit of clip art.

It may be clipart, however, the more i think about it, does it matter what it is as long as the majority of us like it?
I would have oprefered the loggerheads design, a lion has very little to do with shrews but it looks alright?
Doesnt it?

Still waiting for a reply to my email, wonder if I'll get one. I realise people are busy at the Club but the sort of questions I asked I would of thought they would have had replies worked out already thus taking a minute or two to reply.
However people spin it, for me it says nothing about our Club.

Thing is there has been a Lion on the Shrewsbury coat of arms for donkeys years and what resembles a cheetah on the Shropshire equivalent. Further to that no one questioned Ron Millar aka Lenny the Lion as the club mascot. Seems to me the real issue with some is the use of clip art - but so what, even if you employ an artist to draw a different version of a lions face it aint going to be much different - its still a lion for flips sake.

Instead of the lion if the badge had the river horseshoe with a coracle and a paddle inside, that wud ave bin real cool and when fans of other clubs questioned it we could trot out the old Gay Meadow flooding story and the coracle man collecting balls from the river.

you'll all just pay through the nose for merchandise sporting a bit of ripped-off old tat Isnt the away kit simply ripped off from Adidas' AC Milan kit of which many have purchased...? Whats more important to fans..? - securing car parking around the New Meadow, consulting the council about logistic arrangements for games, discussing with the fire authorities about decorating the stadium for supporters bars or putting wasteful energy and time in redoing the badge if it is so hugely unpopular as you make out..? You will be moaning next that STFC havent used a specially designed font and that Arial is not suitable

You will be moaning next that STFC havent used a specially designed font and that Arial is not suitable That really is an awful post that, terrible... So your saying its the car parking or the council logistic arrangements for the games or the discussions with the fire authorities or the supporters bar or the badge? Your saying we the supporters have to get our priorities right? One or the other? Why not all of em? I'd say they were all important to fans (some maybe more important than others) and all of them should be addressed. And with this awful badge being introduced by the club now, it needs to be addressed now. I'm pretty confident us supporters and the club are capable of handling more than one point of concern at a time...or? You do make me chuckle at times...

It appears that in the matter of a fortnight or so the fans' objections to the new badge have somewhat died down a little. It will be interesting to see if the trend continues and how many fans will still have big grievances/ be bothered come the start of next season.

I also notice that some posters who opinions and views I resepect have been a little quite on the matter, unless of course I've missed something, which could well be the case. I think bigger more pressing issues are forcing the badge issue on to the back burner but I'd like to think it will be revisited again.

I don't think the dislike of the lion has died down, it's just that you can't keep banging on about the same subject without sounding like a sad obsessive with nothing better to do.
It's also obviously a fait accompait, the badge has appeared in the new brochure and the last match programme. The club will not change course now.
The club has obviously decided to keep stum and hope that it all blows over. However, their silence speaks volumes.
The badge remains a shoddy, derivitive piece of work with no connection to the hertitage of the club.

I've written to the club (to Mr Wellbeloved) and have posted on the official message board to express my views about the new club crest. I've received no response from the club and so I guess it’s a closed decision. I'll boycott any merchandise that carries the new crest and I hope that many other Town fans do the same. What else is there we can do?

The majority of the people I’ve talked to about this don’t particularly like the new badge and want to retain a badge based the borough loggerheads.
They are unconvinced by the commercial argument behind needing a trade marked badge. People are saying that the potential losses from not having a trade marked badge are greatly exaggerated and if the club provides a quality range of reasonably priced replica sportswear and merchandise then cheap imitations will not be a problem. I’m not saying that this is the majority view of all supporters, but it is what I have been hearing.

I am 100% aware of the need for registration of the club crest. I was very impressed with what seemed to be a detailed reply to initial concerns on this board by SW, less so when it was the stuff for Shrewsweb cut and pasted the day before it was going out anyway. I am concerned about the total "head in the sand" approach to the questions raised and what seems to be an approach of "ignore it and they will give up in the end". Why am I concerned? It gives an impression that in the future this will be the same approach that is taken when any other awkward situation may arise. That would not be helpful in terms of building good relationships between club and supporters who have a lot to offer each other in the move forward to a new era of football at STFC. What is the problem with saying "we were or weren't aware of that"? The fact that supporters e-mails have long been ignored, on may issues, has hinted at this in the past. However, having received one e-mail in the past (at a second request on a serious issue), it's probably best that they don't send out too many given the quality of it's construction and use of the English language. Clear routes of communication have for a long time been a bone of contention at Reading. You'll be having to use a premium phone line next to communicate with the club if you follow the RFC route.......
