And need to start somewhere. In answer to the income generation of the event I have no idea, but looking at the hospitality packages available (meals before in the Sovereign Suite etc etc) someone is hoping to make some serious money. Three levels starting at £250 + VAT per person.Fair play for the club in seizing the opportunity. These prices will certainly scare some people off, but there just might be enough takers. If the club set the prices at a lower level they could have been overwhelmed and need to disappoint people, for a lower profit. Guess it depends on what the average price is for other corporate packages at similar events, and what they get for it. To a lot of people £250 + VAT per person is a lot of money but if its the going rate and people are going to pay it, then so be it.

What a fantastic coup for the football club. Anyone criticising it should frankly hang their head in shame. I think to be fair, when the club said there was going to be a major announcement, everyone was hoping for something on the playing field, so there was a bit of initial disappointment. After the first few posts, most people have welcomed the concert.

Fair enough, but even so, someone who has sold over 250 million albums is coming to play at our stadium, the first concert we have hosted. The whole point of the stadium was extra income: now we are a featured stadium in the Under 19s championship bid and are hosting a major international musician. Rewind 5 years and ask is Elton John coming to play the stadium not "big news"

Can andygroundo tell us what state the pitch will be in after it has been trampled to death ? Another close season re-seeding ? Speaking from experience the pitch will be covered with various forms of protection, the main problem is not the the footfall (providing its not too wet) but the fact that the pitch will probably be covered for the best part of 4/5 days thus depriving the grass of sunlight and all the other factors involved, which could result in quite a bit of damage to the plant, I would suspect that AM and the crew will be doing their main renovations as soon as the season is finished but then there is probably the best part of 6 weeks after the concert before any football is played on it, so plenty of time for any emergency renovation.

Interesting idea, and totally feasible. What if we have a playoff game? Home leg around the 18th? This would give you less than 3 weeks to renovate and get the new seed growing. The last thing you want is it then covering for 5 days and 10,000 people jumping up on down on it, plus the weight of the stage, lighting rigs and mixer desk on it. Having spoken to other groundsman at stadiums where these events have happened other factors also need considering. One had a goalpost socket wrecked, which meant digging up a 2ft square and re-setting. Another had his irrigation pipe fractured. I would like to wait till after the event, take off the top 100mm of the pitch surface, verti drain to relieve the compaction. Put on 50mm of top dressing, incorporate into existing surface with a power harrow. Put on another 50mm, laser level and sow. As we know we will be home for the first game of the season due to the flower show, that would give 55 days from the concert date to the first game of the season.

When EJ played a concert at Worcestershire County Cricket Ground (in 2006 I believe), the club announced profits for the club from the event in excess of over £50,000
