Have to say that I think Sir Alex has handled the situation well. Really? Not too sure what to think of it myself. At present rooney is off form, and possibly unfit, and this has been the case for the last 6 months. Will his form return - you'd expect it too eventually. On one hand, he's presented the facts from his point of view so the public actually know what is going on and has taken the pressure off hiimself. On the other hand though, he has now clearly stated that rooney wants to leave, which must leave other players at the club asking questions, and possibly unsettling them. It also means that as he's been so honest, it seems difficult for me to imagine the two working together again - it's now late october a minimum of 2 and a bit months till any move can happen, so is rooney going to play in this period? if so, i'm not sure how well united fans will react to him. And then there's money. Rooney was probably worth a lot of money but with less than 18 months of his contract left his value will go down. if they don't sell him in the january transfer window then his value will fall dramatically, but can they afford to miss out on a large transfer value given their debts? but then again, can they afford to sell rooney off in the middle of the season, which could potentially weaken their squad and strengthen a rivals? And then if they do sell him in january, who on earth are they going to bring into replace him - no rival will want to weaken their squad by selling to united

No, i think he will stay in the area, and who has acquired a new Chairman with a bit of spare cash? Rooney will wear the red again, oh yes. Can you guess who it will be yet. Genius. I'm luvvin every moment of this sorry saga. No chance of him joining them,he wants to win things and a promotion challenge in the Championship next season is way down his list of priorities. The only way I can see it happening would be in a swop for Torres. Neither player has performed for their club this season, both want a toe up the backside in my opinion for sulking around. Failing that though, a fresh challenge is probably required by each. Both the clubs and their supporters may just accept that at the moment.

Have to say that I think Sir Alex has handled the situation well. He is certainly trying to come out of it as 'the innocent' in my opinion. Poor old Sir Alex, hands tied, what can he do to persuade little Wayne not to leave home. I can't help feeling though that he has known about this for TWO months (at least) and chosen to say nothing. As soon as Rooney airs a grievance (I haven't got an ankle injury - the manager is making it up) Ferguson chooses to bring this up. It strikes me as very much trying to turn the tables on 'poor Wayne' so as all of a sudden the finger pointing is turned around. As I have no time for either, I really don't care who said what or who did what. I have to laugh at all the Utd fans getting worked up though. Rooney is only doing to them what he did to Everton. His word means nothing. I wonder whose badge he will be kissing (and licking) next? Wherever he goes, lock up your grannies and pets!!

My prediction is that after the meeting of the top brass @ 10am this morning, Mr Rooney could well be on a spot of gardening leave until his inevitable departure in January. I think it would be a salutary lesson to these 'professionals' called footballers on a wider scale if Ferguson told him to get stuffed and didn't pick him again. , that would be an excellent example to the rest.

Possibly Minor, but then again I'm not sure united could really do without rooney - assuming his form and fitness return - it's not like they have large amounts of other top class players to use instead

Fergie must have lost the plot with Bebe, £8mil on someone he's never seen play, not even videos, who was playing in the Portugese third division and was being offered around for a couple of hundred thousand in the January transfer window last year.

Man utd are quite clearly in transition and may find it hard to pickup the type of silverware they have been accustomed to over the next 2/ 3 years.
Wayne Rooneys also in transition , going from a world class foootballer with an edge to a sulky prima donna who couldnt trap a bag of cement, cant score consistantly and blatantly doesnt have his head in the right place to go out and perform on a football pitch .
No one player is bigger than any club, he deserves all the stick he gets, ambition my a** last time i checked it was a team game and for me its all about "I" for Wayne.
Ian Holloway has the situation called about right aswell!

I think you'll find it was Rooney who won that cup for Utd last year You've basically listed all of Owen's notable moments in a Manc shirt there, list what Tevez did last season and it would be a much longer list. And Tevez's goals are propelling City above Utd this season anyway, so it's only a year too late! Owen, not bad for a free signing, and a quality player in his prime, but is no Tevez and is not really good enough anymore. The Bebe signing is a joke, you can't deny it. If any other managers signed a player for £8mil (I'm thinking of one specific manager but can't mention his name on a Manc thread ) they would be absolutely slated. Maybe we'll all have to trust Fergie's judgment though. One question though. Why would he sign a nobody for £8mil, despite constantly complaining for the past 2 years there's "no value in the market", when players like Van Der Vaart and Ozil, just the sort of players United need, are movin clubs for similar amounts of money? I think Fergie's trying to leave a legacy, so when he's retired it's still "Fergie's team" winning all the competitions, but he seems to have forgotten his current squad is one of the poorest United squads of many a year.

Manchester United can no longer outspend everyone else in order to win silverware. Manchester City can outspend them. Maybe Chelsea can outspend them. Maybe even the Arse. Manchester United have been overtaken by others with more money and we all know that the most important you need if you’re looking to win anything in football is money. So I have no idea why everyone is making such a fuss of Rooney wanting to leave. If he wants to continue winning stuff he’s got to go to Manchester City, maybe Chelsea, maybe Arsenal. Either that or he’ll head abroad. Why all the fuss, it’s as clear as owt…
Manchester City are set to overtake their city rivals, looks pretty clear that considering the money they can spend. Ferguson can gibber on as much as he likes about ‘noisy neighbors’ but the truth is money talks…and by the looks City have plenty and United…well who knows, but they don’t appear to be spending as they once did…
I personally think it’s a good thing, maybe new surroundings might help him get back to his former form and get him back on track. We need him back to his best. I wouldn’t want to see another performance along the lines seen in SA if it can be helped…

It's a bit harsh to compare Bebe to van der Vaart. Whilst the fees might be similar, the wages will be massively different. I expect VDV will cost Tottenham something like 20m in wages and transfer fees over his contract. Bebe is probably in the region of 12m. He was also wanted by Real if I remember rightly.
Man U were in for Ozil but he chose to go to Real. Better squad, football more suited to him, more money, better weather. That United will fade away for a while is inevitable, it could be in 1 year, 5 years or 20 years. The Saudi's aren't bankrolling Man City for fun and Chelsea are one stroke of Mr Putin's pen from losing Roman. Nothing lasts forever.
United have opted for the Arsenal route in the face of outspending by Chelsea and Man City - invest in young players and hope they don't throw their toys out when they get 'too good'. It's a tricky route, but neither have any other choice really as they can't compete for the Yaya's and their 200k a week demands. At the end of the day though bothget the most bums on seats each week, and along with Liverpool are clearly the long term big 3 in England.

1. Rooney is certainly not gonna show any loyalty towards Manchester United when he can't show any loyalty to the club he still admits he has feelings for and thats Everton. 2. Rooney only went to Manchester United to win medals and hes won at least 1 of each there is to win apart from the UEFA Europa league/Cup. 3. There is a slight rumour floating around the USA that New York Red Bulls or LA Galaxy are set to break the bank!!! Watch this space. 4. Chelsea or Manchester City are favourites to pick up the pieces, but don't be surprised if Real Madrid, Barcelona, Inter, AC or Bayern Munich make bids.

Apparently according to the Sporting Life website a number of large bets that Rooney was staying were placed at Liverpool betting shops shortly before Rooney's announcement of the new 5 year deal. One was for £5000.
Hills eventually refused to take any further bets and closed the book.
Hmmm!
