i have memories, just, of Peter Broadbent, absolute class, Dean Spink because he epitomised Shrewsbury at that time, giving 100% and proving his worth despite the dogs abuse that barsteward Bond gave him. BUT my all time favourite has to be Tony Kelly. He could do everything, shoot with both feet, dribble, head, tackle all with a smile on his face. A great character with the body of someone whose fitness regime comprised a diet of Boddys and a fat meat pie. It was like watching a mate who had jumped over the wall and joined in the game, but was a better player than the super fit posers already on the pitch. Gazza before Gazza was invented. Happy days.

Alex McGregor - remember a night game against Rotherham during the 74/75 promotion season - he ripped them apart.

As I only "came on board" as a supporter in 2003, I didn't see the glory years, I've only heard about them.
So- favourite player since 2003, then.
I'll have to be very unoriginal and say Joe Hart!
There have been a lot of players I've admired for their ability, their work-ethic and their attitude but for me, anyway, Joe stands out and still comes across as grounded, and still returns to his roots.. and gives.

Very well put.One of my favorite moments is when kelly put a sublime ball in the box for us to score and turned to my mate in the crowd and said "thats how to pass a ball steve did you enjoy that".Fav player at Town John Mcginnley.

Was your favourite player around when you were young? I'm wondering whether our favourites are decided when we were too young to be cynical about footballers and young enough to indulge in hero worship.
Mine are, Rowley, Broadbent and McLaughlin were all playing while I was between 10 and 18.

Sam Aiston, he wasn't about end product, merely running with the ball and tackling in a rather rash manner.

Nigel Pearson and Tony Kelly both great players for us.Kelly's freekick for his hatrick against Grimsby was the best goal i have seen at a town match ever.

Favourite players- Ken Mulhearn,Ray Haywood and Dave Walton but the best player to ever play for the town IMO was Gerry Daly.He was two passes ahead of every other player in our team.

Really enjoyed reading the posts on this thread, names mentioned bring back many good memories of many good players. Some choices would not be mine, but hey, they 're your choices not mine. Makes you wonder who of the current crop we will fondly remember in 10 years time or so, or a thread which asks " name the SHREWSBURY team who won League 2 Season 2010/2011.
