Now Sharps and SCS have signed where does this leave Langmead? We can get in better players than Langmead so no loss if he goes imo.

It still leaves Kelvin in a first team place IMO. It will be good to finally see competition for places again.

My favourite player at the club, wouldnt be a HUGE loss like Holt, but non the less a very important player, he even did a job a right back in a difficult time for the team.

I suspect that Langmead would a GT type of player so I would hope there is now way he would go. He will get better and better the more he plays by experienced players. No way he should leave.

SCS for central midfield?
He was brilliant there at the beggining of 08-09, a decent striker and passer of the ball, hes got abit more height and strength then most of our CM's at the moment, also left footed to balance the play, id love to see him given a chance there in pre season.

Suggests that Sharps and SCS signing leaves Langmead in the cold but, if Langmead went, we could get in someone better, which might presumably mean Sharps or SCS being left out, so where would that leave them ....... etc etc No - it's a squad. We need more than 2 experienced centre backs. Sharps replaces Coughlan and we're in a similar position to last season. Not an issue.

Depends on who GT wants to slot into LB. Could be SCS, Macca or a new signing. Sharps and Langers as a pairing seems very strong. Would be happy with Holden, Langmead, Sharps and SCS as a back 4.
As for SCS in centre mid he did play well there, but didn't Simmo say he stopped playing him there because Shane didn't like playing in midfield. Bizarre.
This will see our title/promotion odds reduce so get that bet on quick!

I rate Langmead myself, would rather see SCS at left back so that could leave Langmead and Sharps in the centre.
A far bigger concern for me is the position of right back, Holden looked consistently very, very poor in that position last season, and I wonder if GT has received any feedback on this problem.

Cant see this the same way as you Heavenly... my starting pair as centre backs would be Langmead and Sharps!

Langmead gets caught out atleast twice a game and he cannot pass a football to a player on his own team.

Langmead is a player that cares about this club, and that matters to me Heavenly.........................and he is a better player than you make out.

Does loyalty mean nothing to you heavanlyshrew? Kelvin is our longest serving player, he cares for the club, he puts his body on the line week-in week-out. The moment we bring in a new defender you propose we just discard him? Awful

So what if he cares about the club.I bet he cares about his wages from the club more.If a player cares about the club so what if we could bring in someone better which we have done today.

Neither because I suspect to achieve the first, you need a good sprinkling of the second in your team.

IMO they will all be used for competition. All three of them are quality Center backs fot league 2 but for me the strongest pairing would be SCS and Sharps. Kelvin is a little suspect when in posession and think the stlyle of football Turner will be wanting to play he will prefer SCS's passing skills along with the experince of Sharps.
Nice to have such a good 3 choices though, and Hooman as further back up.

Im not 100% convinced about Langmead. Decent centre half but probably another one who gets a lot of adulation because he's been here a while, gives 100% etc, Ben Herd-like
Dont get me wrong, this isnt another vendetta against Langmead and I clearly dont have the same level of opinion as Heavenly. I just think that at times he can get caught out of position and like Heavenly said, his distrubution his poor
But I think he will benefit from having a settled, senior player alongside him, like with Hope

I have a lot of time for Langers and definitely think he's got a place at the club, but I have to admit his lack of pace did concern me last season - it looked like he was wading in treacle some weeks.
Having said that I'm sure he can overcome that as he's always been good at reading the game. Good to have three decent centre halfs to choose from, plus HH pushing too

Heavenlyshrew, interesting that you were so keen to support an underperforming manager and now so desperate to get rid of our best centre half over the course of the last five years
If you don't appreciate the value of having players that care about the club, in a league full of journeymen, moving from one club to the next in search of their next pay packet then that's your problem

One more point about langmead is that when he did not have Coughlan and SCS along side him last season he looked lost.Unless he has a leader playing along side him he looks out of his depth.SCS AND Sharps to start in the centre of defence.

The problem for Kelvin for the latter part of last season was the fact that he was constantly having to cover Holdens a*se who was keen to go forward but not so keen to get back !1

This will see our title/promotion odds reduce so get that bet on quick! I think that was more in relation to SCS being played Left Back?? Langmead gets caught out atleast twice a game and he cannot pass a football to a player on his own team. He also covers gaps left by others efficiently too. Maybe to his own detriment, but IMO he's a decent reader of the game. I have a lot of time for Langers and definitely think he's got a place at the club, but I have to admit his lack of pace did concern me last season - it looked like he was wading in treacle some weeks. Playing with an injury for the latter part of the season though wasnt he, hence the hernia op. I like the player. Decent & honest on the field. Remember he's been converted from a forward to a solid centre half, I think thats what earns him credit with the fanbase.
