Welshshrew you have not got a soddin clue........ Just making an observation than in order to implement a foreign policy which many commentators believe to increase our likelihood of suffering terrorism, then you need people 'joining up'. I don't really have a fully formed view either way, but thanks for your contribution Paul.

I don't really have a fully formed view either way, but thanks for your contribution Paul. I am no big fan of the armed forces at all, but from what i see, generally all they do is enforce a foriegn policy, however bizzarre and unpopular, that is formulated by politicians. So to lay blame at their door would be a bit harsh. Also, and unlike the Americans in Iraq, they seem to be doing a good public relations job over there.

Just like to say thanks to Mike Ashton for ringing me up and chatting about the incident And finally: TO THE PERSON WHO THREW THE BOTTLE, DO YOU REALISE THAT HAD THE BOTTLE REACHED THE PITCH AND HIT AN OFFICIAL OR A PLAYER STFC COULD BE HEAVILY FINED, DOCKED POINTS AND POSSIBLE HAVE TO PLAY BEHIND CLOSED DOORS....IT WOULD OF ALL BEEN YOUR FAULT And docked points could have meant that we were no longer safe - look at Wrexham. I think the club should make some sort of statement about the incident and what plans they have to stop this happenning again. In fact, they should have made a statement today. Their silence has been deafening.

They have looked at the CCTV twice and there is no sign of it...what more can they say or do?
Im satisfied that things will be looked into further.
Dont forget Steve having a pop at the club for saying sweet fa is not going to help, they didnt throw the bottle towards us, some useless, brainless, dickless, clueless, worthless ass hole did.

What the club could do is announce that they will have extra stewards in that area watching the crowd not the match and that fans making political chants that have nothing to do with football will be thrown out of the ground.

umm i'm no expert but if you want to catch someone/people doing whatever or gain evidence the last thing you do is say what you are going to do!!
confrontation is counter productive, especially in a crowd of a few thousand

I'm with steve on this one.
Get STFC to put a message on ShrewsWeb stating that they will not tolerate this type of behaviour. Let the idiots who performed this action feel guilty and let them know that next time they won't be so lucky in getting away.

Phil, I really hope you are joking?
You really think they are going to feel guilty and sorry about throwing a bottle at us or even singing what they sing?
sorry mate but "cuckoo cuckoo"...not a chance

The chances of the club identifying the knob that carried this act out are pretty remote therefore its difficult for them to take direct action.
That does not however prevent them from carrying out a very strong and forceful PR exercise through the various outlets available to them stating their stance and what measures are being taken to prevent a repartition.
This episode once again highlights the dearth of public relation skills currently available to the club.

But surely threatening this kind of behaviour with a banning order from the meadow or being arrested will act as a deterrant?

I would like to see the club issue some sort of press release relating to this incident. Make it clear that this sort of behaviour will not be tolerated and that people found guilty of doing this or similar acts can expect to be banned from the ground.

The club need to make a clear statement about this, and the continual racist chanting, EVERYONE will know the stance the club is making and the consequences of breaking this code. They recently make an announcement regarding racism in the programme/website didnt they?
The stewards, as employees/volunteers whatever then enforce the clubs policies. If they are concerned as to their safety in confronting these people then surely Police prescence can be used.

while i understand theoretically (sp??) we could have had games behind closed doors, docked points etc...
Far worse has ahppened in the past and the FA have done feck all about it.
Coins thrown at players (carragher amongst others)
The bloke who ran on the pitch and knocked out the linesmen a few years ago at Portsmouth i think.
Racism of certain players
Pitch invasions-saw it live on tv with birmingham V villa and Burnley V Blackburn amongst others.

ok lets see the logic in putting out a press release.
at the moment a few fans know of the incident, so do the club, more importantly the safety officer. The problem is being looked at, and really not a lot else can be done.
However release a press statement, draw attention to the incident and next week the local authority will be in to all sorts such as training records, stewarding numbers, H&S audits, oh i c STFC have addmitted major problems, lets crawl over them......anything wrong and we will induce an s factor.......
I reckon STFC have done the right thing, they may have nothing to hide but do not put yourself in the firing line uneccesarily.....

But what if the safety officer is saying everytime that something happens...we are aware of it and want to sort it out?
I've heard a similar line spun in our direction before, almost word for word.
It's a very good phrase to use.....until it's used that much that people start to suspect that it is being said just a touch too often.

Unless they get concrete evidence then really there is nothing they can do, how many stand on the riverside?? there are 6 stewards, max, the CCTV is not the most hi tech in the world, so as much as you hate to hear this but the odds are stacked fimly in the yobs favour, not many people are happy to give statements and loads are happy to turn a blind eye in the fear of confrontation. The words are heard but actions never seen...but would you all be happy to have season ticket price increase of £200 per season or entry up to £17 - 18 quid a game to get the finances that would allow a stewarding operation that you all crave......and if a stewarding company was brought in then a lot of people who gain entry now would be in for a major shock.........arrests for being drunk, ejections for standing in sterile emergency routes (those yellow painted lines)

Paul, considering the possible H&S implications of a repeated offence, do you not agree that the club are duty bound to do something now about the throwing of objects and general behaviour inside of the ground? At least by reacting now, and making efforts to avoid a repeat they would be doing this before an injury is caused - this has got to be better than sitting on the problem.

Hows that work paul.
Rochdale employ series stewards, probably a firm.
Yet get gates of 1000+ less than us and only charge £1 more for an adult, which isnt bad taking into account there seated stands are 100 times better than ours.
