Some of the eulogising of Peters on this site is a bit nauseous. He hasn`t actually achieved anything yet

I have a little sympathy for this mans views but it's pointless calling for his head now so near the end of a season when it looks like we're staying up anyway. Judging him on performances so far i'm not convinced by Peters but lets see what happens next season. I have to say that comparing Peters to Graham Turner is a recipe for over expectation on Peters part because I doubt if we'll ever see those great days of the eighties again who ever is in charge. I'm not a Peters fan but i'm prepared to be prooved wrong on him although I have strong reservations on that one. Respect to your views mate even if i don't agree with them. ( what a perfect example of how to present an alternative viewpoint ) I honestly think that few of us on here have any idea of the restrictions that Peters has to work with. From where we have been recently and where we can realistically get to i think this bloke offers us the best chance of stability

[quote author=The messiah board=general thread=1142097377 post=1142100536 I just don`t see any excitement, entertainment, progression. All this cr@p about Rome wasn`t built in a day, and `learning curve`, and `young squad can only get better`, is just rubbish. Football doesnt work like that. Why do people think we will suddenly be challenging for promotion next season. If we lose Joe in goal, as seems likely, it will be even harder than this year. Town fans are the most naive, easily satisfied , fans in the country[/quote]
Couldn't agree more, I mean heaven forbid a manager is given time to cement his team and get stability before progressing when the time is right.
If we went up now we wouldn't have the revenue or the team to stay there, so how about we scale our expectations to something less than dream-like and take it from there.
To quote a famous film "He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy"

I just want to ask where is the love? :-*I posted on here a few days ago about grass length's and got ridiculed, who cares? Bigger man walks away. Yes i disagree with mesiah but would everyone of reacted like that if he was part of the elite group who post on a regular basis? Who knows, i don't think that we can judge mesiah as a willy just because he is a bit cynical. Maybe he has profound mental disabilities??? Open your minds guys, maybe Gary Peters and him have history.

I disagree with the original post, but I think it's true that people over-reacted with the personal insults.
To the messiah: you still haven't answered the six excellent questions which were posed to you on the issue.
Also, who exactly would want to manage Shrewsbury Town if Peteres were sacked now? We're an average league 2 outfit with a small budget. You're proposing sacking a man who's got us to mid-table (a step up from last season). Logically, therefore, you're suggesting the board put up with nothing less than promotion challengers.
How will this appeal to any manager in their right mind? (i.e the decent ones) "OK, we can't pay you much, you've got a small playing budget, you're inheriting someone else's team and if we're not challenging for promotion by the end of next season, we'll get on your back and fire you. Basically, we expect a miracle worker. So how about it, do you want the job?"
Peters promised nothing more this season than the formation of a new team and a mediocre mid-table finish. So far he's delivered, and most people are happy as that's a hell of a lot better than our last two seasons in this league. He also promised further improvement next year. He's already said he expects to bring in four or five new players in the summer, which added to the increased experience of our youngsters makes his predictions plausable.
I don't agree with everything he does - for example, I didn't understand our attacking formation at all today - but overall he gets the benefit of the doubt by a mile, due to giving the impression of being overwhelmingly more hardworking and competant than messers King, Ratcliffe or Quinn. He's definitely the best shout for success available at the moment.

has the playing budget really shrunk that much since last season?
Is it not realistic to think that we are still paying out night on £1.5million a year in wages or however much it was?

It's probably a lot of money to you or me, but I'm sure most teams in the division pay more.

Then again, we could have been good enough, flying high, but faced a HUGE FA Cup tie like Colchester did, played VERY well against the Champioins of the Premiership and since then havent won a game and today lost 1-0 away at Oldham and are dropping like a brick
...we could be playing the type of football that we saw under Jake King or do you suffer from short term memory loss ? At least when Asa Hartford was in charge, at we had leagues to drop before we went out of the league - mid table obscurity will do me this season thank you very much

There's an extent to which this is all very "Shrewsbury" - an outsider comes in and points out what isn't being done properly and won't stop pointing those things out until they are put right, and this puts noses out of joint, shakes people out of just doing what they have always done and means that the excuses for not doing things better are no longer have the same currency. Long may it continue.

Rob, as a quick comparison, our wagebill out of the following clubs is the second lowest, and the second lowest by a significant amount (200K+) Oxford, Carlisle, Torquay, Lincoln and Grimsby.

In the long run the messiah will probably be proved right and Peters will be sacked – the reason being that this is what happens to at least 80% of managers (rough guess)
The fact is that at the moment the majority of people are happy with the progress the team has made – i.e. mid table. If we have a bad start next year this view may change but if we have a good season the messiah might have to admit being wrong (will he do this?) or wait a little longer until we begin to struggle in the league (maybe a division up).
My expectations are as follows
This year mid table Next year the play offs / just missing out The Following year – Automatic promotion/ the play offs / just missing out If we do get promoted then I expect us to struggle for a while – this is when it is likely that the Peters Out brigade will get larger (will the messiah take credit?)
I hope for year on year improvement not a dramatic turn around. The reason for this is that it is difficult to stop a club in gradual decline and that is what we have been for 20 years.
If Peters can stabilise us and provide us with players who don’t bankrupt the club and may even be sold on then he will be doing better than most football managers do. In order to let him achieve this he needs time.
He may not be a high profile manager but I am happy with that since it keeps the media circus out of Town.
I would be not be happy with the appointment of a Merson, Gazza, C Palmer - They have all survived a very short time in management leaving the clubs they have been in in disarray (I know Gazzas situation is different).
As pointed out the clubs who change the managers the most do not as a rule have long term success – lets see if this method is successful.
Lets back the snail for once rather than the hare.
I am waiting for a picture of GP as a snail from a teckie now! ;D

The idea of replacing failure with failure happens all the time in football from top to bottom, the more you fail the more jobs you seem to get.Players come in and out of a revolving door, badge kissers to a man the only constant being the fans, regular, fairweather or armchair, have your say but in the end it matters not, clubs need stability no matter who you are and ultimately the wait is worth it,how much patience do you have?

To be fair, thats an expectation, i would say there is even a chance Peters could go if were bottom at Christmass next year... thats the nature of the game.... That our current position is seen as a good season worrys but in some strange way slightly pleases me.... Next year its make or Brake for GP... i think we will improve but just miss out... as you say, and that will be enough for most town fans

Firstly I'm with nick on this one about calling people names and respecting opinions. However, it is incredibly frustrating when someone posts as a guest especially when the only thing they do is post at 5pm on a Saturday afternoon after the Town have lost. One thing to notice is the age of this years squad. Today's squad: Hart 18 Hope 27 Burton 28 Herd 20 Ashton 20 Mclean 26 Edwards 19 Sorvel 32 McMenimen 25 Stallard 31 Langmead 20 Cowan 24 Addagio 19 Cronin 20 Hogg 20 Sharp 31 An average age of 23 and a half years. Peters is building for the future - don't expect success over night as Rome wasn't built in a day. Gavin Cad ??

This thread is a good example of how some view B & A as a clique- rather than reasoned argument a number of regulars have resorted to name calling. If you do not agree with the guest posters point of view, give your own and keep the playground personal attacks out of it. Nick (Executive Club Member) agree totally. i like reading the views of this bored and its dead good and all, but it really does p**s me off when someone gives a different view point and is totally ridiculed for it. shows total lack of respect imo. roll on the subsiquent abuse...

Mr Peters may be getting the results to keep us up but the entertainment level is disappointing. the messiah obviously wants to be entertained - not everyone can take pleasure in travelling all the way to Wycombe to wait 73 minutes for a shot on target.

If he wants Town to play entertaining football then it makes sense for him to want Mr Peters replaced. as for your questions - I think that the manager is doing a good job. I just don't think that the puerile name calling is justified. Imagine if we all shared the same views: guest 1 - GARY IS GREAT
guest 2 -yes he is.

it is from my point of view and obviously yours but if you step back and look at it from the messiah's point of view,it seems like he wants to see skill, flare and possibly a forward who can score a few goals,a Tony Kelly style of midfielder - when he got the ball there was an air of antipation that you just don,t get with our "battlers" (ok Edwards is getting there)
we all want different things from our trip down the Meadow.
If the moaners stopped going it would be nearly empty on match days.
