I'm not surprised, an all ticket match wouldn't have stopped Town fans getting into the home end so there was little point in making doing so. The Shrews game only attracted 6,000 and I doubt the game at the Bucks Head will get any more. What is its capacity, 7,000 odd? It will be interesting to see what sort of segregation is in place, will we have more than the away end and a few seats? I recon there could be anywhere between 2 and 3,000 Town fans going down, and problems will start if a large number of Town fans have to go in the home end.

This might sound negative, but nothing will stop hooligans from Wolverhampton or Telford getting in with us.
Poor decision.

JP, you do have a point. Making the STFC allocation all ticket would of course stop hooligans from getting in as we have 700 odd season ticket holder and a couple of thousand other affiliates with the club. There would be no tickets getting through to general sale and therefore we would all be safe (inside the ground anyway).
But if any troublemakers wanted to go to the game, I doubt they would have any trouble in obtaining tickets for the home end whether it was all ticket or not.

I think it'll depend on how they set the ground out dont it?
I would think both Telford and the police expect more Town fans to attend than the away end holds (is it 1,500?). So I reckon they'll allocate further room for Town fans on the night. I would think they would try to reduce the number of Town fans being in home areas as much as possible...
Strange though, cos i think its possible that this could be a capacity sell out...

There is nothing on Shrewsweb. I think it it is a strange decision if this is right.

Guys I don't want to seem rude but before the season began we had the meeting with the police and they told us the Telford games will not be all ticket as a matter of policy from West mercia.
This was widely publicised
Every time we have a big game there are "will it be all ticket threads" in the weeks leading up to an announcement followed by "it will be a disaster" thread once the decision has been announced along with "why have they done this" sort of questions.
West mercia were 100% clear with us at the beginning of the year and have not changed. Now I don't agree with their policy but they were up front and clear and have not changed it, so why do we keep going round and round in circles?
The Telford away games will nto be all ticket just like the telford home games were not all ticket
We were told this in September so why is it suddenly an outrage?

One would have thought it would be coomon sense to make it all ticket for STFC fans especially as demand is likely to outstrip production (space on the terrace) if you see what I mean.

think what TBH is saying is that while it may make sense from the point of view of both the clubs and the fans, the west merica police have already legislated and there aint much that can be done to change the situation, as much sense as it might make.

I totally agree Rob I would make them all ticket immediately but they told us they wouldn't and they haven't, and we seem to be going round in ever increasing circles! our logic is from our point of view, their logic is that if someone does not have a ticket they can prevent entry easier than if they do have a ticket. That is the view of West Mercia, publicised to us over 6 months ago I disagreed then, we debated it with the police directly, but they made it perfectly clear it was always their preference to not have these games all ticket

but surely it would have made it easier for them to police? They'd have had a set number of fans? it wouldnt have been as much of a scramble as it will be And there would be far fewer people left on the street outside the ground. Just because the Police said they werent going to insist on it being all ticket, doesnt mean the clubs should stand back and do nothing. I fail to see why the clubs havent acted. For crying out loud we can all see whats going to happen, why cant they!!!!

I understand and agree completely, but the clubs dont really have much choice, if what tbh says is true then the clubs have been fully aware of the situation of months now, it's too late to negotiate it now, it seems that the inevitable is..... umm...... inevitable
Incidentally, from the police point of view, what is the argument against the match being all ticket? like rob says, surely it would make their lives easier???

thats my point amy. The clubs could do something if they wanted!!!!!
10 days would have been enough to sort it all out.

The normal allocation for away fans at the NBH is 1650 apparently, I presume they will extend it to over 2,000 for this occasion.

It doesn't matter surely Sim? If its not all ticket, its a free for all. Presonally i will go straight from work with a few cans to keep me warm and camp outside the away end

Post by timmy gallon on Mar 3, 2004 2:25:54 GMT 1
if its only 1,650 in the away end you will end up with up to 1,000 town fans drifting into the home end like at chester. consequences could be very bad indeed. cant understand the polices position on the NBH games at all, sure at GM it has worked ok but at the NBH away demand will outstrip demand. crazy.
