In 4 weeks time I will be giving up the f*gs. Without silly quips, I would like the help of anybody who have done this incredibly hard task (my 4th attemt) Any advice would be really welcome How did you cope with the cravings? How did you cope with anger and frustration? How did you cope when in a smokey environment (pubs etc,) What did you do with your hands to cope with not having a f*g in it? (no rude answers please I haven't got the greatest of wilpowers, so is there any tips to cope with that. I am bloody determined to get through it this time, so I really need your help if you've been through this Thanks lads and Lasses

Use normal gum. If you get an argumentative situation walk away all just deal with it, it can be done without smoking. Just think. ALL SMOKERS SMELL THEIR CLOTHES SMELL THEY ARE MORE LIKELY TO BE ILL GIVE UP SITUATIONS WERE YOU SMOKE A LOT IF YOU CAN GIVE UP ALCOHOL FOR A FORTNIGHT DO IT EXCERCISE Dave you can do it...I believe in you

Hate to admit it but we smokers do stink! In a lead up to my stopping i have been cutting out certain smoking habits. First to go was smoking in the house, within a few days the difference was amazing. i used to go and have a cig in the outhouse but after coming out of our nice fresh smelling house and going into the outhouse that reeked, ive stopped that as well. Billbo we can do it mate, found in the past a treat system is good, the money i saved last time i quit i brought myself a guitar, this time i am going to use the money to come back to england and watch town in the trophy final at villa park!!

Me and the wife quit in January 2002, me after I got a pain in my chest and thinking (hell its a heart attack) I went for a walk and it turned out to be indigestion, but it was enough to make me think and I have never had another one. Im forever telling the mother in law she smells because of smoking and our daughter stinks of cigarettes when she comes back from there. People tell me Ive turned into a typical ex smoker..complaining about it etc etc..honestly I couldnt care I just know health wise Im that bit healthier.

Ive set this Target because I have 4 packs of Golden Virginia left from the Margate/dover trip to France. I thought I would smoke them and then go for it. I know theres the argument I could sell them, but to be honest im looking forward to smoking them all and it also gives me time to arrange with my doctor to put me on the patch's and if nescessary Zyban anti-depressants. My own Dr recommended a finish date when I last spoke to him and seeing Bazeus is finishing on April 1st I thought that would be a good date....... after all I was a FOOL to take it up in the first place

If the pros of quitting outwiegh the cons - you'll be better off. I quit nearly 12 years ago - 1 pack a day for 12 years I've saved approx $8,760 Other advantages; Our kids, as newborns, were not breathing in second-hand smoke. Health/fitness is better than it would have been. Real Ale tastes REALLY good. Quitting was one of the best things I've done - my wife and I quit on the same day. Major advantage for my wife was not trying to quit while pregnant. As an ex-smoker, I'm hoping you join us, you can do it

Everyone who knows me may well be aware that i like a bifta or two now and again! Usually about half time and full time in the away supporters games, for example. About four years ago however I did give up for a significant amount of time ( about a year i guess ) The first three days were bad and then it was quite poor up until the three week mark and then after three months it was no longer a problem and i could even go out to the pub without my emergency comforter of twenty marly reds! Pubs i found not a problem. The problem for me was when i was bored i found i struggled most. Anger is likely. just laugh about it afterwards Food cravings wierdly did not apply to me and somehow i lost weight. If it is a problem just try to eat things like cereal or dried apricots.

Good lad Dave , the father "by" law gave up smoking a few years back , he used to chuck a long lasting sweet in his mouth when he had a craving ,its not the same for everyone but i hope my tip helps other than that see your pc gets a virus like earlier today and that will take your mind off things

Couple of good tips already thanks The anger worries me a bit Last time I tried to pack in I nealy beat up my brother for nothing and ended up leaving my local to another one up the road and buying myself a cigar to calm down. I don't want to do that again. I hope the patches will help calm me down

The missus tells me I dont give up - I take a break!
It is nice though to come in from a night in the pub and not have your clothes stink of s**t.
Get in the 3 Fishes, the air is purer than pure and the beers not too bad either!

couple of other things:- Hypnotherapy is a complete waste of money. Drink lots and lots of water it helps the food cravings Do something tangible with the money saved as seeing it in a jar to spend on what you want really helps Biggest tip though is not to start again as believe me since those halcyon days i find it harder as if you have done it once you think you can do it whenever you like and smoking does not work like that. And finally a tip that works for some and not for others. I did not touch a single fag for those months not matter how angry i got because in my mind as soon as i had that first drag it was downhill from there and so it proved to be. Good luck as it is seriously diificult

First thing Bilbo you have to want to give up and i mean you really do have to want to give up.
Secondly, give up when you get a cold or sore throat, thirdly always carry a single cigerette around with you as this stops you wanting to buy a full packet and fourthly routinly get the cigerette out of your pocket stare at it and say "You will not beat me"
It worked for me and i have now been off them for nearly two years and never ever feel like starting again.
I will stress the importance of having a single cigerette in your pocket as the compulsion to go and buy a packet from the shop is probably your worst enemy.
If you get past three days then you will p**s it mate.
Remember - "You will not beat me"

I gave up by using the patches - 1 month on the strongest 1 month on the middle strength and then 1 month on the weakest. I was on 20 chewing gums a day for a while but it's easier to wean off them. You'd be suprised how much crap gets coughed up for about 2 years afterwards!
P.S. Don't expect STFC to help. It's murder sometimes!

Good luck Billbo, I haven't a clue what it'll be like for you but I've seen that it's possible - you can do it lad.
Pete D has been off the cigs for two or three weeks now - ask him how much money he's saved and how he felt playing 90 mins outfield for the ASFC yesterday. I remember him playing for us at Darlo last season and he was fliped after 10 minutes!
Good luck mate
