you really think your squad is good enough to challenge for promotion from div3? Yeovil and Doncaster were both way way better than your current side.

Bally - you evidently believe the Conference is much weaker than last season?

Doncaster strengthened their squad and many teams who return from conference football come back stronger.

i think the 2 sides who got promoted last year were better than any side this year .Yeovil were excellent last year played it on the floor with pace and passing, Doncaster also . I've been impressed with 2 sides this year Hereford (best footballing side in Conf this year) and Barnet best organised. Sorry but apart from the Derby pre season game i haven't been impressed with Shrewsbury at all?

No you dont get me. The Chester squad is full of Conference players, we only have a hand full of players who have played Conference football regularly, the majority where playing league football last season..where they no the game etc.
For instance Luke, in the league he is given space by a centre half, in the conf the centre halfs are on his case.

If we went up the squad would certainly need strengthening.
However I think only in the areas we are currently week.
A new left back and a new right winger would mean our first XI would look quite good; whether it would challenge for promotion would be another thing.

Not struggle no.
I dont know how much you have seen of Town in Div 3, but that side we had last season should have stayed up, the quality was there.
If and I say if..we go up, we'll need 7/8 players to do well, but this team would certainly beat a good 8/9 in Div 3 Im sure of it.

lol isn't 7 to 8 players virtually a new team?

Not really, the idea is you have a squad of 22 maybe more you can all do a capable job in their positions. I reckon 7/8 players would be required, not all would get in straight away.
Overall we are still a much better team than the large majority in the conf and a majority in Div 3 and this includes yourselves, I mean lets face it Telford are by far the biggest under achievers in the conf this season, new squad or not, they can beat us, get a draw at Chester, beat Crewe away and beat Brentford comfortably, yet lose at home to Northwich, give Farnborough their first win of the season, lose at Margate. At the end of the day both Shropshire Conference teams should have done better this season!

In all honesty if you did manage to get up this season imo if you wanted to challenge in div3 you would need a virtually new team again? i have seen you 8 times this season and out of the whole of your squad the only definates would be Rodgers and Tolley as for the others some are too old some not good enough and the rest squad members at best. As for Quinn whenever he plays us, he seems more worried about how we are going to play so picks his side accordingly , personally if i was manager i would let the opposition worry more about us? There's a kernel of truth there. Prior to going out injured we would have had real problems this season without Tolley, who drove the team. We will have real problems without Aiston. Rodgers will cause problems to defences. By and large we would struggle to create openings - as we are now in this league. But Howie, Tinson, Ridler and Moss are steady enough for 3rd division from a defensive point of view.

Think we would struggle to score goals in Division 3.

Just a quick reply to pab. Once again I'm not getting at people like yourself, but people who attend the meadow just to moan. You say that you would never slag off Dave Edwards, and I believe you, but others have already started! On Tuesday guys by me were already turning on the young lad and suggesting he was way out of his depth! these same chaps will turn up on sat and have this so deeply rooted in their heads that when he gives the ball away the first time, you will here some moron screaming for him to get off the pitch and accusing him of being s**t!
Maybe I was wrong in my earlier thread by trying to push my positives at you all! I'll shut up now and go back to my two line posts!

Shrewsbadger, this is where I totally agree wiyh you mate. People go down the Meadow (to be fair all clubs have it tho') and can't wait to moan moan moan. They victimise certain players and are on their case before they have even touched the ball. Even when they are having a good game, the first little mistake is picked on and magnified 10 fold. They are uneducated (football wise at least) bigots who can't see past their own nose. I have players who let's say I'm less keen on but I don't go ranting and raving at them during the game and try and shout encouragement to them to get their heads up. And, when they have had a good game, I'm one of the first to acknowledge it with my mates. These constant barrackers do the club they supposedly support no favours at all, and I'm sure here we could all name a few or point a finger in the direction of. Personally I would love to go to their place of work on a Monday morning and give them nothing but from shifts beginning to end. I'm sure heads would drop and they would under-perform - I know I would. If there is anyone on here who falls into the barrackers category (of those I know there isn't) I would suggest you seriously think about it. You know what I have just written makes sense. UP THE TOWN!

With you all the way, BelleVue.
But maybe it's a Shropshire thing. Shrewsbury fans are worse barrackers than any other group of fans I've attended matches with. This includes plenty of Liverpool, Wolves, Wycombe, Norwich, QPR and Wimbledon (pre-franchise, of course).
Indeed, during a couple of seasons as a Wimbledon season ticket holder, I found myself the target of baffled stares whenever a Salopian-style slag-off burst out of my mouth.
It made me re-assess my attitude.
I once asked Ratcliffe in a Q&A what he thought about it. He said it might be something to do with a rural mentality. But, then again, his credibility has somewhat dissipated...

I had a godawful woman shouting in my ear-hole all match on Tuesday.
At one point in the Second Half, I snapped and told her to shut up.
Her husband then (quite rightly) told me not to tell his wife to shut up.
I told him to get lost, but my peacemaking father then said 'Sorry'.
Although he did state later on that he was apologising for the fact that the person had ended up with her as a wife.......

Fair play to Shrewbadger and Bellevueshrew. There are people down the meadow who just F***** moan from start to finish. And yes it is really irritating and I do feel for the players that they aim it at.
But. We are 8 months into the season and they still play like they met 10 minutes before kick off. How are we supposed to feel when certain players cant pass to one of his own team mates 10 yards away, when someone wont chase a ball unless its going to pass within 6 feet of him, when someone smashes 2 or 3 shots over the bar from 6 yards out in the space of 10 minutes, when half our team stand ball watching whilst the opposition play the ball around.
For every 1 person barracking a player there are 500 urging him to do well. These are PROFESSIONAL FULL TIME PLAYERS. They get paid good money to play for this club. How long should we have to wait until they start to earn it.

When I was young free and single, I used to go and watch my 2nd team Blackpool play when Town hadn't got a game.
I managed to watch quite a few games over a period of years, and I have to say BFC supporters are the world champs when it comes to moaning.
Even the year they went up via the play offs from Div.3 (a season I saw them 11 times without missing a single Town game) the support was so fickle it was unbelievable - made our lot look pure amateurs at the whinging stakes!!

Thinking about it fagin, when our game was called off at Macc a couple of years ago just before Chrismas we ended up going to Molyneux to watch 'em play Stockport, and yes they were a very nervy crowd who started jumping on the teams backs very early doors.
