Skip, if you suggest a team, then it'll make the poll. If not, then we'll carry on ignoring you........

Maybe they decide not to come on the weekend away Skip?
You're getting bogged down in the logic.
Choose a club, put an argument forward as to why it should be them and then we'll stick it in the poll.

Marine They are a nice small club whom we have played before. We have fond memories of playing them. They obviously have humour within the club as I remember their keeper threatening to throw the ball in his net and kick it in his net. The legendary Eagle has mates associated with the club. Its not to far away and their fans seem up for a laugh. Remember that streaker and their celebrations when they score their two goals. They are reasonably famous after 442 cronciled the clubs progress for a few months a few years ago, and from what i recall they were run by a hardy few people who ran the club because they loved it not for the money. When I think about what football used to be like (from what my dad and oldgit tell me) they make me associate the past with the present, and make me realise that there are teams in this country who are run through love, where money isnt the first priority.I mean their manager ( Roly Howard) has been in charge for 32 years!!!!! Oh and we might get some publicity for it if we were to boost their lowish gates (200ish i think) by a hundred or so. And also if we are going to adopt a team, we might as well adopt one we can make a go of forging links with and visiting on a regular basis. Hopefully I've sold you all on the idea.

Rob mate, my last word on this one at present as I've come to realise it isn't much good arguing with you Realistically, this idea will not see a hundred Town fans making regular trips to another club (we normally have another engagement with STFC!). What it's about is following the results of a club that the majority have no normal idea about, and then perhaps organising a trip out there which would be superb if it came off. That's why a European club would be most suitable. My suggestion will be Fortuna Sittard, a 2nd division Dutch Club who Cramby used to play for and who get crowds of 4 figures. Maybe we can widen the net to include a domestic team (I think the links already started with Raddy Boro make them a good choice) and also as TrueShre came up with an excellent idea - to maybe create a link with a team from a developing world, which we could help out with. All pie in the sky at the moment. So lets have people putting forward suggestions, backing them up, then we can have a poll, and let's not start shouting too loud at why it's all such a bad idea eh?

I'm firmly in the Utrect camp.
Love the city, have a good friend living there, the people are great, and it would be a good weekend away with great bars and clubs (remember Queens of the stone age playing a low key gig in a small nightclub there).
To describe the city is saying it is Amsterdam, with nicer bars, shops, clubs and people. It has the largest and cleanest canal network in holland. It is one of the most historic places in holland, and the buildings are fantastic. It has none of the drugged up scum amsterdam has, or the resident english dickheads that seem to inhabit every overhyped holiday destination.
It is proper Holland. (thats why I went on the defensive about the place Kicken, its like saying London is the same as the rest of England)
also easy to get to

I'm not slating the idea, You told me to put forward a club and suggestions as to why, so i did as you said. Just thought it would be nice if this idea became a lasting one, not one we'll rave about for a few months and then will suddenly die. Fortunna Sittard is a nice one, as yes Cramb has played for them both. Who was that group of foreign football fans that were at the Meadow a few years ago. Think they recieved some sort of presentation? maybe we could then take up their local team in return for them taking up town?

I think we should nominate a team from either Majorca or Spanish Costas area
that Pollensa one sounds cool, and we know a good bar too!
It'd be good to have a club in a place that you can get to via easyjet style flights and where you can get cheap accommodation, and where it is warm and has a beach!
That way if we do ever go, and this idea takes off (it would be awesome!) then we actually have a nice break in the sun and a decent holiday from it

A Scottish team would be good for UK based. Attached link shows all their colours/details, no blue & amber sadly as far as I can tell. Always fancied going to Stenhousemuir but no idea why ! www.upyarkilt.com/Division1stats.htmlWould urge a degree of caution/need for research if adopting a smaller European side however. I've seen several top European sides and have never had any problems, but the one occasion I've seen a lower level side was in Spain about 18 months ago (Leganes in Div 2, near to Madrid) and the main issue was the appalling racism of the home fans, where monkey nuts were on open sale at the ground to throw at visiting black players - couldn't believe what we were watching. In no way suggesting that this is typical but there is scope for the more unsavoury elements in society to come to the surface if they are away from the national/international media spotlight, and not really what we would want if looking to build a rapport & have a laugh.

I nominate KSV Geraardsbergen in East Flanders, Belgium. It is my Mum's home town and I used to be taken to see them when I was on holiday. Seriously though, I would suggest a team in Flanders because Belgium has the best beer and chips in the world, is easy and cheap to get to, train travel is cheap and reliable, everyone speaks English and it as not as boring as people make out. Geraardsbergen may be a bit small, but what about Ghent, Bruges, Ypres or Ostend? I have tried to do some research, but the Belgian FA web site is rubbish.

If we do want one int he British Isles then I nominate Forres Mechanics of the highland league
I went there in the summer
The chairman spoke to my Dad, found out we were from Shrewsbury Town, retold the story of when STFC went there in a pre season tour many years ago and then invited Dad into the boardroom for a drink!
If that is not quality STFC networking then I don't know what is!
Forres Mechanics, thirty miles east of Inverness, really nice little town near the sea! woo hoo!
