Really really good thread.
I think we do get on the players backs too early, and that many people arrive with the expectation to be unhappy with certain players. Occasionally they have the right to but they show little support when that player does something good.
I sit at the back of the Wakeman immediately to the right of the press box. At the Scarborough match I sat with my cousin and listened to people slag Tolley off for his poor performance.
I mentioned to my cousin that this was typical these days and people should take into account that its his first game back and that he needs match practice.
At that point a fella infront turned round to have a go at me, saying how Tolley shouldn’t be playing and how Edwards should be.
He was probably right but surely that wasn’t Tolleys fault. When Jamie was substituted after a much better second half the for mentioned fella refuse to clap.
Another guy who sits with his daughter and grandson right next to the press box delighted in telling me that he said we were going down after the Bristol Rovers game earlier in the season, directly after the final whistle of the Carlisle game.
Its not a fact that this guy knows about football, almost everything that comes out of his mouth is negative, he just got lucky (and i hope he took pleasure in it cos I wouldn’t of).
When a player makes a mistake in the first 10 minutes do people not expect it, ok these guys are on at least 3rd division wages but that doesn’t make them good! As long as they are trying their best give them your support.
