It's a nice idea but I can't see the club going ahead with it after the statement they made a couple of weeks ago

The game is going to be well attended what ever so I wouldn't reduce prices for it.
The game we should reduced prices for, IMO, is the Leigh game.
The tie will already attract a relatively low attendance - by reducing prices we could attract a higher attendance plus I bet the club would get great PR from it too.

they made a promise that by keeping prices high would enable to keep the better players, and that they would reduce "certain" games, they won't do any such thing robbing barstewards

No, there won't be any price reductions this season, contrary to the clubs promise.
The reason being the loyalty of the fans............

That would be great cheers. I wonder if you'll be making similar jokes in a few year's time when Andy Shaw decides that bankrolling a football club isn't as much fun as he first thought.......

Yes, sarcasm and smiley faces are well-known hallmarks of somebody who has 'taken the bait'.

The club are trying to make as much money out of the cups as possible. The main reason is to have a cash back up should the club stay down. We wont have any parachute payment at all next season, we still want to have a youth academy and stay full time.
You only have to look at the difference in wages between us and Northwich. Northwich in the financial year ended were still being managed by Jimmy Quinn, £270,000. Us £1,500,000. Figures from STFC's financial report 2002-3, and those quoted in the NLP for Northwich.
The club has stated that it kept admission prices the same to fund the same wage structure, despite a reduction by half in the payment from the league.
The only thing that has kept us going is cup money from last season.
The club did budget for lower gates, so that makes up some of the shortfall, but not all. It is also the reason why the club are non commital on Ryan Lowe's new contract. If we stay down I would suggest you'll see the squad severly trimmed back.
The club said what they said about admission prices because they honestly thought that we would struggle to get crowds of 2,000. Lets face it Dunny in his Chronicle coulumn said like wise back int he summer, so the aim was for certain games to to reduce admission to increase crowds, however as everyone knows our crowds have been higher than expectaions, in fact our lowest crowd is higher than any league crowd achived during Jake King's reign.
It is still little consolation, and I still believe the club have shot themselves in the foot over this, especially coming out and saying it the way they did, and during one of our ticketing meeting I said as much to Kieth Sayfritz's. However lets not forget that last season against Chelsea and Everton have raised prices, like Northampton did, but didn't.
What I would say is this. With so many back to back home league games likely to come up, it might be worth looking at this again, if if as a gesture, but.. bear in mind what I said above about wages and financing.
It's a s41ter, but one we all have to understand.

I think Plimmer is spot on here, I echo the sentiments completely.
I do think Ant made a valid point in his post though: there is no point in lowering prices for the Telford game, but the Leigh one will be poorly attended (relatively speaking) and it might be a PR coup. I'd certainly try and push for that if we thought it might be possible ...

Agree with everythink that has been said by Plimmer and agree no reason to lower prices for Telford as the game doesn't need any incentive BUT..
would just like to point out this week i will be in Portugal for the England friendly game, ticket price = £14.00 !!
Sureley the board must have had confidence in us progessing a few rounds in this comp. and thus could have reduced prices for rounds 1 + 2 ??

By not giving price reductions, as promised, I feel the Board loses some credibility. It makes my think are they pure money grabbers. I know they have put money in to keep the club going but it says to me they are now looking for a return on their investment. My thinking then goes to the New Meadow, is the building work not happening because certain people are not making money from the deal. Now it doesn't matter one bit whether I am right or wrong but if people start not to trust you, you are on a slippery slope. When you really need people's backing will they respond? I was always told if you make a promise you keep it. I don't like it when I am lied to. If there are no price reductions or incentives before the end of the season I will feel I have been lied to. Funny thing with this is I am not looking to get in cheaper but it is an opportunity to attach more fans. For me with the extra revenue we have gained this season, under 12's should be free or £1 for the rest of the season. Alternatively there should be a well published campaign of vouchers for free admissions to school children when they attend with an adult. Ideas should be aimed at kids(let the tax dodgers pay full whack ) Sorry I wil get off my soap box now.

i think we should make the leigh game free
there would be a great atmosphere and everyone would come in home of getting their mug on tv
come on town lets entice new customers
just 5 new faces who become season ticket holders will be worth over a grand per season
what is there to lose by trying ?
