It's going to be a 10000 all-seater stadium, the reasons why have been explained over and over and over again yet people still bang on about terraces, when will the message ever sink in!
Get used to it!

Plans have been accepted for Oteley Road, but plans can be changed. STFC may have to re think the whole plan, as the council are not exactly helping us out.
why should the stadium plans be built in stone, before the first brick is even placed?
Should we go along with the 10,000 all seater 'because its already planned and we cant alter it' etc? It may turn out we have to reconsider GM, due to the council. Shrewsbury has been too blind in the last 40-50 years when redeveloping, please lets not let NM be another mistake!
The Shay should act as an example of what is right for STFC. We dont need a Premiership stadium after all!!!

All seated stadiums need not be lifeless like the Deva.
Field Mill and Dean Court are two redevelopments with excellent atmospheres...and both are missing a side too!!

Another good example is (Tony) Adams Park, Wycombe (it's got some corporate-sponsored name now, I know).
Although they've made 3 quarters of it all-seater, they've preserved one end as terracing for home supporters. Unsurprisingly it's that end that produces most of the noise and virtually all the atmosphere.

Ant,
Dont you think it would be ideal to have some terracing? after all how many Town fans sit? I'd guess at 20-25%.

In an ideal World yes, yes it would.
But as I'm sure you read last night when I posted it... a non-all seated stadium will mean that the club will not receive maximum grants from the football trust.
The club have previously estimated this would increase the cost of the project by £500,000
Of course if a multi-million pound investment came into the club then perhaps such changes could become reality.

if the cost is £500,000 for not being an all seater, then that is actually only a small proportion of the £14 million the NM costs, especially as terraces cost less than seats. so the cost is recouped.

Nope. Let me re-iterate. The cost to have a terrace in place of a seated stand at one end of the ground is £500,000. This figure is non-debatable. It's a lot of money, and unless the club's budget for the new ground increases somewhat it will remain an un-necessary expense that they can't afford.

Plans have been made.
As ant says STFC won't get funding for a terrace at the stadium and it will cost the club £500,000 more.
In an ideal world I'm sure we'd all love it but I'm sorry it isn't going to happen.

I don't care what the percentage of terracing is,i just want to see the damn thing built.Sadly though we seem no nearer than 3 years ago to seeing it.

Why dont we just build 3 sides all seater - get the maximum grant then build the terrace after!!! I'm sure it would save almost a huge not to put seats in anyway. Also why not apply for a grant to pilot the 'safe' terracing as in use in Germany... A little imagination could be applied - and WHY are we all so sure about this £500k business? Why do we always believe everything we're told? Seems awfully high to me... Yours sceptically..... (I prepare to be slagged off...)

The football trust gives higher grants for all seater stadium
in buying 10,000 seats we have economies of scale in purchasing
in building two identical ends we have economies of scale in design, planning and construction
that is why we are basically having a 4 sided fitness first stadium, a flat packed pre-packaged lower league football ground with a design that works
to change to terracing would cost us in grants, design and construction, even if we did save a bit of money on seats.
also, surely a plastic seat doesn't cost a lot does it?
it ain't gonna happen unless something else changes, like the football trust rules!

terracing please. i don't care that 'plans have already been agreed'. our calling out for terracing won't affect whether or not the stadium's built will it!! It will be built all-seater whether or not we shout for terracing, but as long as we are shouting for terracing then there's still a slim chance the powers that be might listen to us.
why be so defeatist? WE HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE!

...so every town fan is denied the choice to stand or sit for the next 100years or so because the club can get more money in a one off grant from the football trust. we know what you want but you aint getting it. we care a lot! i do like londonshrews idea very cunning, lets try it.

"It's not going to happen folks. "
your defeatism is almost sickening. why don't people stand up for what they want for a change instead of accepting what's offered?
we've all campaigned for the new meadow, touch wood things are looking up with regards to its eventual construction. surely now is the time to redirect this campaigning spirit into another channel.
if i started a poll called 'who prefers sitting to standing' (without any reflection on it being at NM or whatever) i think the responses would be firmly in favour of standing.
so campaign for it. type "safe standing" into google and see how many other clubs have groups supporting this idea, what puts us in a better position than many of them is that we already have an unconstructed stadium rather than an all-seater.
