A shake up in the personnel, young blood itching to be given the chance to shine and an uplifting performance was produced. Stephens ran himself into the ground at left back (obviously been watching Gregor do this week in week out ;D) Edwards was my MOM he has everything that Jamie Tolley possesses and he has the ability to head the ball, which Jamie doesn't. Street was far more effective in central midfield and looked a capable deputy for O'Connor. Aiston gave us plenty to shout about again though how he was booked for a blatant foul on him and a free kick then given against him I'll never know Great header (Quinn should take note ) Thought that the Quinn/Darby partnership up front was too one dimensional to start with but Colin Cramb had an excellent game pulling the strings and setting up plays. He won the penalty and cooly slotted home. Duane had an excellent game and was in two great positions to score if the ball had been squared to him. Tinno and Ridler were back to their most effective and Sedge filled in well at right back. Howie had to be on top form early on as Morecombe came at Town for the first 15 mins and looked the stronger side. He made several top quality saves and had a fine game. Nice to see Glenn Tolley fill in at right midfield for part of the second half. He looked positive and lively. Surely a better bet than Street in that position. Nev Thompson came on for the last 10 and made a nuisance of himself. He looks to be a strong lad who can put himself about to good effect. A bit rough around the edges but an interesting prospect. And of course Gregor came on for about 20 mins to replace the tiring Stephens and he didn't put a foot wrong Very self assured and positive ...as always. Ready , take aim.....fire

Great game from the young 'uns. The icing on the cake would have been Edwards scoring about 5 mins from the end. Thought Darby had an improved game too. Game spoilt by yet another absolute of a referee, the booking of Sam an absolute disgrace and should be appealled immediately. Great improvement on last few weeks but not that good to get carried away.

Could'nt agree more the youngsters were excellent and shows the amount of talent at the club. I do have a concern though mr aiston has resolved his temperament problems and is playing excellent football, could we struggle to keep him?? On another point i had a real go at cramb after the northwich game but hats off today he played well.(for all the moaners out there who are satisfied)

The important issue was not the result but the fact that the team played with guts, dtermination and not a little flair. After last weeks debacle and the criticism that has been levied at the players and management this was a welcome and necessary performance.

Got to maintain that work rate though. It's no good thinking they've made up for Dagenham and relaxing. More of the same is required every week...

Pat on the back to all of them today. Especially to The young lads, Sammy, Darbs and Streety.

Have to say a makeshift side made Morecombe look, well er....crap (beside the odd chance from set piece). While this might not have been their strongest line up (I don't know) we still comfortably beat a side tipped for the play-offs and only a few places below us in the League. Nev Thompson, the next Kevin Francis. The way he controls the ball, he's like a reincarnation of Bamby himself.

'Have to say a makeshift side made Morecombe look, well er....crap (beside the odd chance from set piece).'
Have to ask Skip, did you watch the same game as me today? From what I saw they had plenty of chances that were well saved by Howie (very pleased he must have been that they were right at him) and they hit the woodwork twice. We were opened up a few times today and Morecambe were unlucky not to have scored at least one...or is that what you mean by 'beside the odd chance from set piece'? Set piece? OK, yes when they hit the woodwork for the first time it were from a free kick but the other chances they created were from open play. Really not sure what your on about with comments like that our kid...
Agree with many things written by mysticsdad. Street looked better in the middle of the park, the youngers did very well and both Aiston and Cramb had very good games...great first goal from Aiston who started it all in the middle of the park with some great one twos and then finished with a good header, well done Sam!!

Howie was superb once again and pulled out three top notch saves again showing why is he by far the best keeper at the club.
Considering we had four youngsters play in the game and had a make shift side I was very satisfied with the performance. The team created quite a few chances and Dave Edwards was fantastic.
The hard work was the key today to the victory, as ChrisH says this needs to be continued on into the league next week.
I'd be dissapointed if Edwards was dropped to the bench next week.

Have to agree the commitment was there today. I thought Edwards and Stephens had good games. Sammy was back on form, but I still don't know how you get booked and have a free kick given against you for what was really being rugby tackled. We still seem to sit back too much which allowed a very average side put us under pressure. It didn't help not having much pace up front, but that changed when Glenn Tolley came on who I thought played well for the last 25 mins. Still I think the team selection next week could be quite interesting! The goal was down to one touch passing which we can do well, but IMO players want to stop the ball all the time.

First 15minutes, they produced a great save or two from Howie, and had one cleared off the line, oh and had a menacing cross that everyone missed.
After that I can recall 2 further saves that Howie made, good ones. Yes they hit the cross bar in the second half, but that would have probably gone down as an own goal, due to the deflection.
For a side of Morecombes repute I thought they weren't short of awful, this is also taking into account that a few lads were making their starting debut and we had a 44year old upfront. I am struggling to think of a side who came to Meadow and gave the ball away so much.
Whilst I felt they looked dangerous from set pieces I feel they didn't offer much else.

Town were pretty poor for the first 10 or 15 minutes but once we got the ball down and started passing it there was only really one team that was going to win it

A comment from the Morecambe message board tonight
"We had our 1st eleven out today against a not full strength Shrewsbury team yet they ran amoc all over our defence"

my man of the match was howie (again) at 0-0 he produced 2 amazing point blank saves plus another good save in the 2nd half come to think of it morecambe must be disappointed to have lost today having also hit the bar and had one chance cleared by tinno (how did he get to that?) (we could have conceded 5 again) quinn was very quiet today and hopefully he will notice this on the video and drop himself next week, it will be the end of darby if quinn picks himself first

It might just be me, but I seem to recall Morecambe have a history of dire finishing - I still can't quite work out how they managed not to score against us in that LDV game last year.
No matter, we were much improved today, and disposing of a team like Morecambe with so many injuries is playoff-earning form.
I've got to agree with Pilch though that if Quinn picks himself over Darby again after today then there's something very wrong.

(we could have conceded 5 again) Pilch, that's just plain daft, they created only handful of chances in the entire game How many times have you seen a side put all their chances away, by that logic most teams could score 4 or 5 against us and by the same logic we could have had 10 or 12 yesterday! We bossed the game for at least 80% of the time and ran out very worthy winners on the day, in terms of possesion, quality, chances created, whichever way you want to look at it we were by far the better side on the day

Credit to the management team for getting a makeshift side to gel almost immediately and the improvement in attitude was there for all to see. I still expect to see Moss, OConnor, Banim and maybe Rodgers back next week but Edwards deserves an extended run to cover for Tolley. Im not sure Darby will keep his place- he was OK yesterday but there is something missing- probably a goal or 2

Fair play to Rioch today as well. Certainly looked as if he felt he had something to prove. Cant think why.
Not that I'm advocating him starting next week though!

Thats not the point though is it Prof...my concern is that we are allowing teams chances through, for me, bad defending. Very happy that Howie was on the ball as he dealt very well with the chances that came to Morecambe. He made some fine stops yesterday...

their 2 set pieces which they nearly scored from could have put them 2-0 up not average chances but they were both brilliant saves from howie (is anyone scouting him btw) had they been 2-0 up it would have been a different game i can't remember us having 10- 12 golden chances yesterday

The way we play sides are always going to create a few chances against us. Playing 4-3-3 I think accounted for that, in that we were wanting to put them on the back foot.
Yes their chances were good ones, but we could have lost by close to 10 if Exeter had taken half their chances, lost to Burton if they'd taken their chances etc...
Why not be positive, our makeshift side beat one of the better teams in the Conference comfortably. Morcombe fans dont seem to be complaing about the scoreline.
Some of you may have forgotten that a goalkeeper is there to guard the net, not let in more than he saves ala last season, ala Bavo.

So we now expect the Town defence to deny the opposition of any chances?
For every chance that Morecambe had yesterday the Town must have created three
What do people want?
Opposition teams create good chances against Man Ure and The Arse in nearly every game they play
Unrealistic nonsense!

On at least three occasions yesterday our two centre-backs were left flat footed as the oppo players easily got in headers. Why/ We seem to give Ridler and Tinno a lot of praise on here but at set pieces we are still poor at defending. Quinn made two clearing headers from defended set pieces.
