The January sales are almost upon us. Are there likely to be any offers for Luke? Do we need him now we have so many strikers and he doesn't guarantee himself a a first team slot? I do not feel his form this season will bring in any offers of worth. Would be surprised if we got £100,000 for him. I think Jamie Tolley is a better prospect and target.

Agree entirely that Jamie Tolley will is more vaulable and will ultimatley go further in the game than Luke Rodgers
Anything over £300,000 would be good for Rodgers, I think we can still get a package for that amount

I doubt any team would be willing to splash serious cash on a player that has failed to set the Conference alight so far this season. Any offer would probably involve all sorts of clauses so that we would get more money the more he plays / scores etc.

What has changed in 4 months? Luke should not be sold for less than £750k, he and Jody have the ability to fire us to the championship...keep the faith and more importantly ... KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF !
Up the Luke Up the Town and Up yours Crewe

Agree kickin if Luke and Jody can both find form and score like we know they can then they will and should be crucial to us. Those two and Tolley to me are our best 3 players in mid. and attack.

Blimey!
Some people have formed some pretty strong views on Banim based on half an hour!
I'm fairly confident he'll prove to be a good signing but it's far too soon to start calling him one of our best three players or talk about him firing us to the championship!

If luke was to go i wouldn't expect him to go for less than 800k nathen ellington went for 1.2m from bristol rovers to wigan and i think luke is as good as ellington

That's the thing We all know/think how good Luke is, but looknig at the stats he hasn't done particularly well this season.

I'd agree with that comparison but the transfer market isn't as buoyant as it was around the time of Ellington's transfer and values have fallen somewhat

PPP - Its not what the market says hes worth its what hes worth to us, and i still think hes worth at least £750k to us.
Sell him at the end of the season by all means but not now, he could and should be the difference between promotion and another season in the conference.
If he goes now then i would be very disappointed in RW and JQ.

I think we need to brace ourselves because if Luke goes we aren't going to get a lot of money for him, not the "first million pound player!" sort of stuff anyway
I reackon we'd take £250,000 with 10% or something like that
By the time we reach the end fo the season he will be close to his Bosman time when he can just leave so the price will be lower

Isn't he under contract until June 2005, at which stage he'll still be too young for a Bosman style free transfer?

point taken, he can leave with compensation
which is normally set at ludicrously low levels

Another game, poor opposition and Rodgers doesn't score. Down goes his value again.

From a league club's viewpoint signing Rodgers is not much of a gamble as he's proven at that level already (something like 50 goals in 100 league games), it's not like the signing of Banim where there was a degree of risk involved
I'm sure they'd take the pragmatic view that the ability is there and he's just suffering a dip in form

I truly hope that is the case PPP but it really is worrying that the defences in this league have been taken apart by some of the better sides yet poor old Luke cuts a frustrated figure. Is it just down to the wrong type of service from the rest of the team? He doesn't get many chances to run into space behind the defenders. All too often long high balls are aimed at him or he has to come looking for the ball in deep or very wide situations. There seems to be little ability in our midfield to play incisive through balls for him to capitalise on.

" All too often long high balls are aimed at him or he has to come looking for the ball in deep or very wide situations. There seems to be little ability in our midfield to play incisive through balls for him to capitalise on. "
And there lies the problem. He isnt getting as many chances as he has done previously. The midfield are as much to blame for his lack of form/goalscoring.
No excuses for not hitting the target from a pen though.

TexMex you say midfield is to blame but last year Tolley was pants and tis season he is our best player so it looks like we can only get one or the other. Also the midfield cannot be blamed for Rodgers missing a pen today or 2 one on ones against Telford. We know he is a good player but the excuses need to stop and he needs to produce the goods or nobody will sign him anyway. If you were a First Division chairman you would have to have great faith in your manager to let him sign a non goalscoring forward from the Conference for the sort of money we talk about.

I have been one of the many that have ranted at luke this season, but in his defence i will say 2 things. 1) the service he has had this year has been poor, not just from midfield. hoofing a long hopful ball and expecting him to compete with 6ft plus defenders is daft.
2) Playing along side cramb and quinn has set him back. Cramb drifts in and out of a game and lacks commiment, Quinn long direct football , luke might as well playin midfield.
I hope he does not go, i believe him and banim could create havoc in the conferance ( football that is)

Luke was once the first name on the team sheet, now it appears he is being eased out bit by bit. More starts on the substitute bench and more subs during matches. This has to be an indicator that a) A deal has been done somewhere with someone 0r b) That the club no longer see him as an important asset and that they are willing/hoping to flog him as soon as possible.
As for Luke, whilst the work rate is still there and the effort remains, which is still does, I would continue to put his name down first on my team sheet.
the lad has proved himself to the club, the fans and himself more than any other player at the club. He'll get through this sticky spell, it just remains to be seen if he does it at Salop or with another club....
