Best part of the film. I hope you spotted Cirdan in the background at the Grey Havens.

Aye, the last half hour was appalling and the entire film was littered with irritating close ups, laced with arbitrary, repetative, slow-paced dialogue - is it really necessary for Sam and Frodo to momentarily collapse in dispair EVERY time they're on screen, only to get up and bravely soldier on EXACTLY like they did 5 minutes ago, the last time they fell over? The thing should have been cut by about an hour.
Don't get me wrong, it was entertaining enough, but it's massively overhyped - no way is it the best film of all time. Since I haven't read the books (fantasy's not really my thing), I don't know if this is due to the editing or the narrative itself, but there are also some pretty massive holes in the plot, if you care to look for them.

It's homoerotic as hell too....

It is that - some of the scenes where Sam and Frodo are staring deep into each others eyes would have had me giggling out loud, if it weren't for the the glares I'd doubtless have attracted from the Star Trek fans around me. ;D

The last half hour is over indulgent but it is there simply to tie up all the loose ends i think that this adaption has been superb throughout.
all three films are as close to the books as can be expected, if they hand't shortened certain parts each film would have been at least 5 hours long which would have been a little to long !
This is the first film i have seen people applaud to when it has finished, i was also told that on another showing people even applauded at the begining - very strange.
I wander if the extended DVD issue will have a extra 2 hours of the climbing up the mountin, i am surre that some of you will enjoy that .

Yes it's the first time I've experienced people applauding at the end of a film too. Quality.

It’s a good film, I enjoyed it but I’m looking forward to the extended version. There was one or two things that were left out that I hope will appear in the DVD release.
The film cuts short the ending, as they do not include ‘The scouring of the Shire’ which I think will be included in the extended version…so if you think the film dragged on after the ring was destroyed in the first release you haven’t seen anything yet.
One thing that annoyed me was the army of the dead them turning up at Pelennor Fields, what’s all that about? Good film mind and an excellent trilogy!!

FFS!!! Applauding the end of a film???
Its not as if i were a live performance.
As for being a truly awesome film, that it were not. yes it was impressive in that it resembled the majority of the story line, and yes the graphics were pretty impressive. However the fight scenes were over indulgent, they went on in some cases for a little too long, also the film could and should have been ended at the volcano. The ending was surreal, but was in no way required.
This trilolgy will be remembered for a long time, but does no one feel it's sucess has more to do with the agressive way in which it has been marketed rather than the genuine quality of the individual films.
I have to say, that I did infact enjoy the first one greatly.

I'm not normally in to that sort of movie, but as with the previous two, I thought this movie was fantastic.
